Close game between Bruins and Buffalo. Bruins are finally looking back on form, lots of great hits and use of the boards to tie players up while stealing the puck. Chara playing great, Marchand showing off incredible stick work and creative play. Woo! Pumped.

Holy crap! I'm not sure what just happened in the last 2 hours but wow!

Hodgson and Sultzer for Kassian and somebody?

Everybody in Vancouver is freaking out but I quite like this trade. We desperately needed toughness and size and we just picked up a 6'3" 230 lbs winger who in a year or two will likely play with the Sedins. He also has 15 goals in 30 games in the Ahl this year.

Hodgson is rather slow and I get the feeling Canucks scouts think he isn't a playoff player and Kassian is what we need now. Hodgson was never going to play in the top two lines here until the Sedins retire so I like this move.

We also got Pahlsson from the Blue Jackets for two 4th round picks to replace Hodgson as the 3rd line center.

I think it was a bad trade. It's just like when we got Naslund, only this time the roles are reversed. I wouldn't be suprised if Hodgson got 40 goals. I doubt he could get 50, but maybe. Now, he's going to get those goals for Buffalo.

 I have to laugh when I hear this comparison. It was a good trade for both sides and to get something rare you have to give up something good. Would you rather have given up Schneider, Hodgson and a 1st for Nash who likely wouldn't be here long term? I doubt it.

Kassian looked very good in his first game and can likely play on all 4 of our lines. We finally have a true checking line and our entire lineup is bigger and tougher than we were this time last year.

Hodgson likely will be a consistent 30 goal scorer in the NHL which is fantastic. But we just got a power forward who can fight, hit, and score which you won't find much of. The guy we traded Naslund for had something like 6 points in his very short career. Kassian more than likely will be a linemate of Kessler or the Sedins for many years to come.

It's a fantastic trade and people were way too attached to a 3rd line center with back issues, no foot speed, and no back check. Hodgson will be a good player but I have a feeling playoff hockey's speed will eat him alive much like it does with Heatley because they just aren't fast enough. Kassian is built for the playoffs and is the best power forward prospect in the league right now. People only watch what players do with the puck but the fact is 95% of the time they don't have the puck and in my opinion Kassian will be better without it than Hodgson is right now.

People need to get a grip and actually see the players we got play before comparing this to the Naslhnd or Neely trade...

Not really sure why you would think this, unless you'd expect Nash to ask out in the next few years. I could understand not wanting to give up that package right now, or not wanting the cap hit. I really don't see a flight risk in a guy signed through 2018.

I've been racking my brain around that Shootout fail by the Minnesota Wild that ESPN kept showing over and over again. Has to be a tough break when you can't control the puck and end up sliding out trying to re-gather it. Tough way to lose...

They wouldn't be able to absorb that cap hit long term. They are ties up with Luongo and Sedins already and we've see what happens when teams commit too much money to too few players after Tampa won their cup and the Hawks had to fire their GM and lose some players for next to nothing. It's not a flight risk it's cap risk and that is way too much to give up for him, he's not worth that.

I almost think Vancouver fans were expecting the Canucks to get him for Raymond and a draft pick... People were way too attached to Hodgson and reacted based on the fact they knew nothing about Kassian and Gragnani. They are both young and both very talented and I think Gillis is looking long term and short with that deal. It's incredibly frustrating to hear people compare this to the Naslund and Neely trades of the past.

On a good note for Leafs fans they've apparently finally fired Wilson... They had to do something, this is year 4 of Burke's 5 year plan to winning the cup and they are behind teams who are admittedly in rebuild mode.

That's about what I expected. Nash would be the highest paid on the Canucks. Great player when he wants, just not $7.8M great. I doubt he'll return anything near what we want for him because of that contract. Enjoy having Pahlsson, he was one of the few to show up consistently this season for the CBJ.

And then you go and lose 6-0 to the best team in the league the day after.

Setoguchi messed up montreal's tank job. There's a thread on the Canadiens forum called "Tank Watch 2012", some of the funniest things I've ever read.

(That's Mathieu Darche, career AHL journeyman getting first line minutes in Montreal)

Toronto really needs to shorten their shifts if they want to win.

Toronto needs to rebuild if they want to win. It was pointed out on sports radio today that in a Sports Illustrated poll last year (of players) that Phaneuf was ranked as the most overrated and Kessel is the most easily intimidated.... How can you win with those two as your cornerstones and 0 goaltending?

Phaneuf was awful in Calgary and everybody in Calgary wanted him out... If he was any good people would have been lining up for a top 4 defenceman especially for the very little Toronto had to give up. They need to get rid of him, get rid of Kessel, get rid of Burke, and get rid of Lupul (especially because he asked to be traded away from Carlyle in the past) and just start over. Stockpile draft picks, get a good goaltending prospect and start over. That won't happen until Burke is gone because he has far too much of an ego to do it.

@CMvan46

I meant for the game they are currently playing.

Oh haha well anytime I have a chance to rant and top the Leafs I like to take it :), I am from Vancouver and all.

I am pretty indifferent on teams in the NHL, although I am from Washington state. I am surrounded by Canucks fans but I am just a fan of good hockey. Except for the WHL. I am a Tri City Americans fan. Do you ever watch the Vancouver Giants?

Not a whole lot. The games are about a quarter of the price of Canucks games though (if not less). so I usually take in a game a year.

I actually live in the suburbs of Vancouver, about an hour out, and we have Junior A hockey here which is a step down from the WHL. I have a bunch of old teammates and friends who play in that league so I watch that a fair bit more.

I just asked because one of my teammates from a couple years ago got drafted by the Giants.

So you watch BCHL then.
Do you live in Langley or further out?

I didn't hear that but I don't follow news around the league too much, more just how old friends are doing. I'm a diehard Canucks fan and after that everything else is a distant second... unless it's Team Canada

Bruins just rocked Maple Leafs, 8-0. Watching it felt like I was slowly beating the cutest, most helpless baby duckling to death. Sucks to see a team get beaten so badly, even if it was great for the B's.

That's a bitter sweet thing for us here in Vancouver  Anytime Toronto loses big it's a good thing in our eyes but the fact it was Boston takes away from that a bit.

I wonder when Toronto reporters will stop trying to figure out what record the Leafs need to make the playoffs

I haven't been able to watch any games this season. Though I heard St. Louis is a top the standings. Are they really that great or are they just 🤬 lucky? Because I can't believe they are the 'best' team in the league.

Best team in the league is decided in the playoffs but yes they are very good this year.

St. Louis is a well built all-around team. Elliot and Halak have been stellar, and they just have tons of depth up front (lots of potentially 40-50 point guys), anchored by David Backes and T.J. Oshie. Not to mention how well Alex Pietrangelo has played.

They're basically the diet Canucks. No weaknesses, and they have good depth everywhere (Canucks have great depth). They're significantly above average defensively, goaltending has been top notch (if Halak goes all playoffs 2010 again watch out), and they have a lot of forwards who could get hot on a playoff series, as well as a fantastic two way forward in Backes.

I don't think this is their year, but they'll be a dangerous team for a long time. The only team I think who could realistically beat them in the first round is probably LA. If Carter and Richards heat up they could be trouble. Then again, if Halak heats up it's almost a moot point. My cup pick is Vancouver or Pittsburgh, but leaning towards Pittsburgh. Vancouver just has so much depth, but Crosby and Malkin firing on all cylinders is scary. Not to mention Letang coming back from injury too.

If the Canucks keep playing like this we are out first round.... I'm hoping things turn around tomorrow in Chicago. If they can't get up for Chicago we are in huge trouble.

So both Montreal and Toronto are officially eliminated now..
