Just wrapped up...

"CONTENDER ELIMINATED!"

Washington is done. 4-3 victory for the Pittsburgh Penguins knocking out the Washington Capitals in six games. This one couldn't be settled in three periods, though. So your Eastern end of the Conference Finals is Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh.

I was >< close to completely raging if Cullen was given a delay of game penalty, but, it was a good game.

Edit: never realized Bonino was the one that got it in... Kinda funny when you think he was the one that made the 5-3 possible that tied this mess up.

Great game from what I have got to see. Holtby had no chance on that one. Murray played an awesome game. So did Holtby. Great game. Great series. Pure Hockey Entertainment!

Half of the 2015-2016 Western Conference Finals will be set tonight when Dallas and St. Louis go at it. Will it be Sanji Himura's Dallas Stars advancing tonight, or will kolio's St. Louis Blues go into Big D and defeat the Stars? One of these two teams will be one step closer to playing for Lord Stanley's Cup.

Good luck to both teams tonight.

TIL: Carl Hagelin has played for the team that has eliminated the Washington Capitals every season of his career the Caps made the playoffs.

Looks like the blues opened a can of whoop ass. It's weird the home team has been losing lately. Still time left though, hope they hang on.

Pending an epic collapse, St. Louis looks like they got this one wrapped up and will go to the Western Conference Finals. 3-0, STL after the 1st period. 5-0, STL after the 2nd Period. 3rd Period... ???

Statsny's having a great game, a goal and 2 assists. I wish all these games were on regular NBC so I could watch. If they blow this lead, there is some kind of curse going on.

Anyone I know that's a Chicago fan, I always tell them I'll let the Cubs win a World Series, if the blues can have a Stanley Cup.

That's all she wrote. It seemed pretty imposing with St. Louis heading into Dallas. But you know what? St. Louis ain't never scared! 6-1, St. Louis Blues advancing. The boys in green got smothered in blue/gold/white with authority tonight. I was thinking... "man, Sanji Himura must be having upset stomach or something watching his Stars fail THIS bad." You know what? I'm going to be honest- I almost wanted to imagine the Dallas Stars coming back hard like when the Dallas-Minnesota series happened. Of course in that game, it was Dallas who was up big until Minnesota made a game out of it. This one though, was NOT even close as Dallas just fell like a rock.

Half of the Western Conference Finals is set with St. Louis advancing. Who will join them- San Jose or Nashville? We'll see when that game comes along.

Remember previously when I said I could realistically imagine a Stars-Capitals Stanley Cup Final? Well, screw that! Both Dallas and Washington are done.

All congratulations to the St. Louis Blues. So ends another GTP inner-forum sports rivalry series. That is... unless fans of either San José or Nashville want to get at kolio's Blues.

We've got only one game tonight, and it is the finale of the 2nd Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Who will be the team to challenge St. Louis in the Western Conference Finals? We got the Nashville Predators at the San José Sharks. Winner advances to the Western Conference Finals; loser (obviously) goes home.

Enjoy tonight's game. It's told to be on NBCSN at 9:00 PM EDT.

St. Louis, get to know your opponents in the Western Conference Finals... the San José Sharks. This one wasn't even close, because while Predators are fierce, they couldn't find their way out of the Shark Tank. Whereas Dallas at least scored a goal before being eliminated, the Music City is singing the blues having lost 5-0 in San José. A sight I won't forget was how ticked off Rinne of Nashville was after giving up that fifth goal. Nashville is done. "CONTENDER ELIMINATED!"

GTPlanet, we now have our "Final Four" of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. And your matches are:

EASTERN CONFERENCE FINALS: Tampa Bay vs. Pittsburgh
WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS: St. Louis vs. San José

The fun begins tomorrow night with the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

We began with 30 teams all trying to prove themselves to be the best. 16 succeeded, 14 failed. Then the playoffs happened. 16 became 8, 8 became 4, and now... those four will clash to determine which two teams will play for Lord Stanley's Cup. The fun begins tonight as the Eastern Conference Finals begin in the Steel City. It's the Tampa Bay Lightning at the Pittsburgh Penguins to start the Conference Finals portion of the 2015-2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Good luck to both teams tonight. Enjoy tonight's game if you'll be following it in some capacity.

Spare some thoughts for Ben Bishop after his vicious injury in the 1st Period. His Tampa Bay Lightning still won 3-1 in Pittsburgh on Friday night. So the Lightning lead the series 1-0. Game 2 of this series is this Monday in Pittsburgh.

There are no games scheduled for tonight. I do want to pass along that Ben Bishop's leg injury lists him as day-to-day.

In case you're wondering, I did a little research on the four remaining teams in this season's playoffs. Here are the last seasons each of these teams hoisted the Stanley Cup...

Tampa Bay: 2003-2004 Season
Pittsburgh: 2008-2009 Season
St. Louis: NEVER
San José: NEVER

So whoever wins the Western Conference Finals this season will have a chance to win their first Stanley Cup in franchise history. The Sharks have been around since 1991 while the St. Louis Blues have been around since 1967. The Pittsburgh Penguins have also been around since 1967. Tampa Bay is the youngest franchise- 1992 was their founding. Pittsburgh has the most Stanley Cup triumphs of these four, having hoisted Lord Stanley's Cup three times in franchise history. Tampa Bay only hoisted the Stanley Cup once. But again- St. Louis and San José have never won the Stanley Cup. Wouldn't it be a cool story if either St. Louis or San José won the Stanley Cup over the likes of either Tampa Bay or Pittsburgh? When it comes to long-standing teams winning their first-ever championship, I am almost reminded in another sport where the New Orleans Saints won their first Super Bowl back in Super Bowl XLIV in 2009 defeating the Indianapolis Colts.

But again... no games tonight. Tomorrow night will begin the Western Conference Finals as the San José Sharks will be at the St. Louis Blues to start this series. So get ready for tomorrow night.

The Western Conference Finals begin today as the San José Sharks will meet the St. Louis Blues in St. Louis. If you didn't read my previous post, this is a chance for either the Sharks or the Blues to win their first Stanley Cup. Whomever wins this series will have a golden opportunity ahead of them against whomever wins the TB-PIT series.

Sharks at Blues begins tonight, so go enjoy tonight's action.

I swear if the Blues blow this... it will blow my mind. Or not because it is typical of them to blow leads.:ouch:

St. Louis takes Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals with a 2-1 victory over the visiting San José Sharks. Congratulations to the Blues on this win.

Tampa Bay Lightning at Pittsburgh Penguins. Game 2 tonight. TB leads the series 1-0. Will Tampa Bay be 2-0 or tied at 1-1 after tonight? We'll find out!

In news that nobody saw coming, Jarryd Hayne, the rugby league player who quit his lifelong dream of playing for the Parramatta Eels (yes, that's their name) to pursue his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL has quit his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL to pursue his lifelong dream of playing in the Olympics by attempting to qualify for the Fijian rugby sevens team.

At this point, he just needs to play for the Western Sydney Wanderers and the Greater Western Sydney Giants to have played in every single football code there is.

Say what?

In other news, Lovejoy is a pretty good player eh? Let's see the ramifications of the dirty play the other night. This game is surprisingly clean but I have to say a few things about the other day.

I want to see each team with a goon, there is a real reason for it. Could you imagine hits like we've seen in these playoffs going well in the past? Taking out the stars at any cost is really in poor taste, let us pretend some idiot decided to board Gretsky off puck in a playoff game, every time that guy hit the ice he would have his ass handed to him on a platter, what was wrong with that?

Let's keep fixing what is not broken. Oh well, this is not a great game but it's still the NHL and that is better than most things you could be watching.

They killed a lot of the self policing with the stupid ass instigator penalty. You wouldn't have had a fraction of the dirty plays we've had in the last ten years, if players were actually allowed to police themselves like they used to.

Wrong thread. :P

I instantly wish I was a few years older because was a toddler during the height of the '97 season with the legendary Red Wings/Avalanche rivalry. Those highlights are amazing to find now because of the whole self-policing policy and the pure hatred for one another. Back in the days when everyone would drop gloves to protect their teams and anyone who was gooning it up was at mercy of getting pummeled by someone else's goon. Red Wings/Lightning was hectic for modern standards, but compared to those days, it was merely hand holding.

I grew up watching Probert in Detroit and Chicago. Here in St Louis, they brought back Tony Twist after they sent him to Quebec, to protect Brett Hull, that dude was a Beast. He was totally juiced up, he gained like 35 Lbs from when he was first in St. Louis in 1989, to when he came back a couple years later. I so want a Tony Twist 15 Nordiques sweater. He actually opened a Bar in our small town for a few years.

Edit: he cracked a dudes helmet in half when he was in the minors.

There have been way too many enforcers for me to remember in my age, but it was always a part of the game and we need it back before someone gets their neck broke on the boards.

No one wants to believe that a good fight is a good part of the sport, I hope they don't kill it.

...

How do you even know if the puck has been iced today? lol, rules rules rules, what in the world. I'm glad that the pens evened it up, it's not going to solve anything of course. I've seen way too much head hunting this postseason.
