Nissan Silvia Fan Club

I'm new here myself but I learn fast... Let me know if am close about this. And I am actually someone who "has" been asking questions about that in the last day. =->

(From: BeN_SpeC2) and its not an s15 jus because it has a strawberry face kit. no matter what you do to a 240sx itll still be a 240sx. since when was it soo cool to be jdm? "Oh yeah man I have a Silvia"...the truth is...you dont...unless you got it imported. Anyway thats all i hafta say...im not in anyway calling you guys posers...

And even still, I think there is room for some ambiguity in all of this. I relayed to a friend that sentiment before any of that. And to him, because people aren’t afraid to do stuff like that in the first place "is” the reason how come trends get started to begin with, no matter how unaware of that you can be.

(From: BeN_SpeC2) ...i jus want to clarify why ppl always call their 240s "silvias" even tho they rnt... Theyre dif from their japanese counterparts...

And I'll just clarify something dually. The ambiguity sort of means there is room for more than only one definition. But whining about what people are calling their car... from a practical standpoint it appears to be on a same level as complaining that he even changed to a S15 front in the first place.

(From: BeN_SpeC2) oh yeah and about ricky's 240... its jus a regular 95 240 with an s15 sr20det and s15 strawberry face. It doesnt mean its an s15....

First of all,,, the guy who said it was a Silvia may already be totally aware that it is a s40sx and not a S15 Silvia. In fact I am completely confident that they both already know what you told him and are totally aware what the difference is. And for accuracy's sake (not that I have experiene in caring about what people call other people's cars as much as you did) since it most likely had a stock 2.4l engine swapped out in the conversion that would mean "you" are the one who is "wrong" stating that it is just a "regular" 240SX.

That being said, he might now see you as someone who is complaining as someone who doesn't like a S15 fronted 240SX at all. While that may not or may be true of you it has yet to be seen. But what you're saying might indeed sound all the same to someone who hears a lot of the other type of complaining to begin with on a regular basis. Whining's whining in the end and most people probably knew what you were talking about without you having to tell them. I know that is true personally because I remember just not long ago when I was confused by what all the model numbers were. It didn't take "that" long to figure out what it meant when that was the very first thing I wanted to know.

And one thing that everyone may or may not already know is that it's common slang to easily refer to a car and its year without having to give a drawn out explanation. "The S13 refers to the RPS13 SR20DET Nissan Silvia (Japan only) made from 1991-1998. R32 refers to the BNR32 Nissan Skyline (Japan only) made from 1989-1994. FC refers to the FC3S Mazda RX-7 made from 1986-1992. FD refers to the FD3S Mazda RX-7 made from 1993-1995. EG6 refers to the EG6 Honda Civic 3-door hatchback made from 1992-1995"

@FusionS2000 ... aout the pics you posted one page back >:)

No one seems to care really what slang you use (At least no one I know and myself) because... even someone who never heard of a 240SX who just finds out about it would have no problem at all understanding you totally if he started becoming the slight bit interesting in picking out a new motor. ^_^;;

Almost everyone already knows you probably mean it's a mid model 240sx with SR20DET swap when you say that he converted his s14 Silvia to a s15 front. And beside that, there probably is no faster way to let people know about those specs then to call it that. If a guy spent just one day in his whole life researching about that he'd probably still know that already, and if I'm not mistaken, "the 240SX would not exist if not for its Japanese origin". Maybe the guy BeN_SpeC2 telling you that beside me really does think you didn't already know that this is commonly known stuff, personally I learned that on the very first day.

Again, I think that the short hand specs have evolved to what it has as an ode to the original car. That "is" how come there is room for ambiguity. After all in a topic that "is" a topic about the 240SX & Silvia fanclub. My thoughts about it are kind of long and I've been at it for a while so I'll get back to the questions that I still even have yet to get complete. Thanks for the info guys. =->

you make good points..
i kno i am whining in a way...but i dont mean to...if i do whine...im not doing it on purpose....
and besides...i think the whole s15/sr20 swaps are really awesome...im not against the conversions...im jus sick of the naming. a 240sx is a 240sx...and thats final...
and rx7 is an rx7...
if u disagree...well i dont know what to say...

My car is finally starting to look the part, got a Vertex (Carmake T&E) front bar last week and finally had a chance to put it on today with the help of a friend - will have the skirts next week and might get some custom rear pods made up as the rear bar is a bit much IMO.

You mean you couldn't source any jdm S13 badges?

;)

no, I was looking for JDM s14 badges *shield style - which are hard to get here.. didnt find any, so I went to the local nissan dealership and got an S15 "S" badge

S13s didnt have a badge on the bonnet.. just the side/rear..

wtf, ive seen silvia's in the US with supra light conversions and you guys quiz me over a freakin badge? LOL

i'm just saying...if you're going for S13 look, keep it all in the family =]

i got those racing hart C2's for 500 dollars with tires. they were used, some minor curbing damage on 2 of them, 1 in near perfect condition, and one has a crack that i need to get fixed because it keeps letting air out of the tire. so i basically just threw on the wheels to take pictures, and now i'm back to rolling on blacks =]

fusions2000: i can't wait to see your car when it's dropped man, it's gonna look good. let me know how stiff those tanabe's are.

currently at the moment i have around 500 dollars saved up to buy some suspension, looking to save up around 1g and then using my hookups to get me Tein HE's...can't wait =D

i also need some side skirts, if you guys know anybody selling some then let me know. also if you come across any of the stock JDM chuki side skirts, let me know about those too, i'd really like to pick those up.

Stock suspension is quite fine for the truck motor. I'd save that cash and start planning for the future as far as HP goes. I mean, right now your catback exhaust is already too large for your NA motor so you arent even netting that much from it. Hell, for what its worth, I drove around on stock exhaust and stock silvia downpipe for my 500 mile break-in on my SR20.

Dont think I dont think your ride isnt pretty, because it is. Its just kinda humiliating when you think of how much money you've spent on it and you still cant touch an automatic V6 mustang with a soccer mom driving it.

Oh yea, quick word about HE's. If you wanna drift, thats all good, but if you are thinking about autocross, I'd steer clear of the HE. I'm getting the RA's myself.

Well those light conversions are stupid IMO, as well as instaling parts/badges from the wrong car....... To me, I just think it looks out of place, because everyone who knows anything about Silvias, knows that that badge doesn't belong there....... Just my opinion, as a purist...... You can do whatever you like, that's what makes you unique.........

;)

Everyones has an opinion, just rep it on the streets...... If u were a saturn owner with a type r badge then there is an issue. Just rep it...

You don't seam to understand the concept, that when you post pics of things you are going to get comments all across the board.... If you don't want comments, don't post pics...... I was only stating my personal opinion, of those types of modifications....... Stop crying already......

;)

I find it rather pathetic that people would go on about a badge, its not a GTR ot Type R badge or some crap.. if it was I could understand... I have the S15 "Silvia" logo on my seat covers aswell, suprised people didnt pick up on that..

im not crying.. just suprised that a silvia "fan" club would have such a reaction to that.

but thats just my opinion, back onto whatever the topic was before this.

He's right...its just a freakin badge isnt it? So what he got an s15 badge....why would you rub it in his face on how it doesnt match? if you dont like it then you dont like it...dont try to make him feel stupid for doing it....

Ok, this is getting blown way out of proportion now.... Only two people made comments on the badge, and they were valid opinions....... Once again, if you don't want comments, don't post pics.....

To be honest, I like the looks of the car..... I'm just not a big fan of S15 badges, on any Silvia (including S15's).......

So I guess you wouldn't like the Tiburon with the GTR badge I once saw

I ran into this thread, and seeing that almost everyone here are hardcore Silvia ethusiasts like me, I figure I could ask y'all for help. Can anyone figure out what kind of bodykit is on this S13?
