I'm new here myself but I learn fast... Let me know if am close about this. And I am actually someone who "has" been asking questions about that in the last day. =->
And even still, I think there is room for some ambiguity in all of this. I relayed to a friend that sentiment before any of that. And to him, because people arent afraid to do stuff like that in the first place "is the reason how come trends get started to begin with, no matter how unaware of that you can be.
And I'll just clarify something dually. The ambiguity sort of means there is room for more than only one definition. But whining about what people are calling their car... from a practical standpoint it appears to be on a same level as complaining that he even changed to a S15 front in the first place.
First of all,,, the guy who said it was a Silvia may already be totally aware that it is a s40sx and not a S15 Silvia. In fact I am completely confident that they both already know what you told him and are totally aware what the difference is. And for accuracy's sake (not that I have experiene in caring about what people call other people's cars as much as you did) since it most likely had a stock 2.4l engine swapped out in the conversion that would mean "you" are the one who is "wrong" stating that it is just a "regular" 240SX.
That being said, he might now see you as someone who is complaining as someone who doesn't like a S15 fronted 240SX at all. While that may not or may be true of you it has yet to be seen. But what you're saying might indeed sound all the same to someone who hears a lot of the other type of complaining to begin with on a regular basis. Whining's whining in the end and most people probably knew what you were talking about without you having to tell them. I know that is true personally because I remember just not long ago when I was confused by what all the model numbers were. It didn't take "that" long to figure out what it meant when that was the very first thing I wanted to know.
And one thing that everyone may or may not already know is that it's common slang to easily refer to a car and its year without having to give a drawn out explanation. "The S13 refers to the RPS13 SR20DET Nissan Silvia (Japan only) made from 1991-1998. R32 refers to the BNR32 Nissan Skyline (Japan only) made from 1989-1994. FC refers to the FC3S Mazda RX-7 made from 1986-1992. FD refers to the FD3S Mazda RX-7 made from 1993-1995. EG6 refers to the EG6 Honda Civic 3-door hatchback made from 1992-1995"
(From: BeN_SpeC2) and its not an s15 jus because it has a strawberry face kit. no matter what you do to a 240sx itll still be a 240sx. since when was it soo cool to be jdm? "Oh yeah man I have a Silvia"...the truth is...you dont...unless you got it imported. Anyway thats all i hafta say...im not in anyway calling you guys posers...
