badass i love the flatblack front end :) , iam in the market for a silvia front end .... do you have any suggestions on where to get one ? (your car and mines are the same factory color btw)

My car already handles like a dream for me...and that's coming from a guy with a racing go kart! Tein Flex with strut bars in front and back do the job just fine for now. Also I have the endless brake pads, so now I'm looking at performance upgrades, but nothing too serious.

-BOV with hotpipe

-Manifold

-downpipe

-catco cat

-cat back.

Dorifto
So what parts would you recomend? Keep in mind I'm in highschool so I'm not looking to heavily modify my car.

I had a 3'inch TO, custom fabricated, I think I have a blitz DP, project-silvia straight, and apex'i N1 dual catback. I wouldnt go with the N1 dual at all unless you plan on rebuilding your rear end with 300ZX parts like I did, now it doesnt bang against my diff. Catbacks are a dime a dozen, pick one that you think looks nice/has good flow, as I dont like the sound of any of them =P

i would recommend gspeedcorp in LA, but i heard they went out of business. i bought my front end from a friend, so i can't recommend what shop i used because i didn't buy from a shop. i'll ask my friends though, they'll know where to get one for a good price.

If you're looking for that, I'd try www.boywhatawasteofmoneybecauseI'mstilljustasslowasbefore.com. Either they'll have it, or mckinney motorsports.

Agreed...

A silvia front end, if I ever install one, will be the last thing on my list (before paintjob)... Performance is much more paramount, especially when paying the amount of money necessary to get a JDM Silvia nose, and then painting to match...

The next thing on my list is suspension... Now that my brakes are done (for now)...

Here are some pics of my new brakes installed (for anyone interested):

Brembo cross drilled/slotted and vented rotors
Cleaned and repainted calipers
Axxis Metalic pads

well neither of you guys can speak for my ride! lol i have dents and dings everywhere ... mismatched fender ... e.t.c. atleast both of your cars are in decent exterior condition (matching body panels at the very least .... ) the one things i'd like to do the most before anything is a sr20 swap ... but they are so costly nowadays .... :-\ who know's prices may drop to a more affordable level sometime in the future ... till then my other priorities are a kaaz lsd .... and suspension work ....

Oh, do not fear Brother, I have everyone beat in the "ugly 240SX" catagory. I have a ton of dents, chipping paint, faded hood, and a ghetto intercooler hole cut into my front bumper. Your car is a showpiece compared to my bucket =)

Are you planning to fix it up?... Or get another S maybe...

we all have our own priorities. i want handling and looks. power doesn't really matter to me, the KA is still fast enough to beat any integs or civics or v6 mustangs that try to **** with me. plus, when you get pulled over and reffed, you have to swap your motor. when i get pulled over, the cop says "have a nice day" after i pop my hood.

anyways.............here's some more new pictures. when the rain comes, the real drivers congregate ;]

Not until I'm done w/the upgrades Brother. When I mean done, I'm talking RB26 sitting underneath my bonnet, so that means probably never. I've always gone by the rule "Being fast > Looking fast". There is just too much I want to do to my car to bother with making it look good so that I can get high-fives from fanboys. I'm looking at investing another 10g or so over time, so the funds are quite limited.

I'll be keeping this car until I bend the frame to hell, its till death do us part for this one. If I do get another car, chances are it will be a Z32 or a DSM, as ever since I've been into cars I've always had a S-series, time to try something different if I'm pulling out the pocketbook.

pRaHjeC: Find me something in writing that says SR20DET's are illegal (bbs wont cut it, I want actual documentation). I refuse to believe this ticketing hype. As long as you pass emissions and your motor is not older (this is the killer right here, this is actually illegal to do for road driving) than the car you stick it in, your vehicle is fine. SR20's are hard to smog, thats the only issue why we didnt get them, because we have crap pump gas. To smog my first SR20 I had to use race gas and even then it was borderline. My 3rd one (2nd one was while I was stationed at Yokota) I just skipped the trouble, paid the guy off, and walked.

i never said that an SR can't pass smog. i know it can. however, the LAW stipulates that the engine must come from a NEWER AMERICAN MANUFACTURED vehicle, such as a USDM S14 or something like that. any motor manufactured outside of the US's smog regulations, such as japanese motors, german motors, etc, even if they come from a newer car, are still illegal to have in a US vehcile. trust me on that man, my dad's friend is a cop, and i asked him all about that sort of stuff. he's one of those certified hood popper cops, so he knows his ****. but sure, you can pass the emissions test with an SR, maybe even the visual if the smogger is a dumbass. but if you get someone who knows their ****, as soon as you come to the visual inspection part of the smog test (if you're in california), once they see that turbo chillin there, you fail.

Find me official documentation. Find me a citation handed out by the cops that has a checkbox for "illegal motor". Find me something other than "my dads friend", cause I can say that my dads friend is the queen of england. Does it make it true? Not really. I'm not saying you're a blatant liar, I'm just saying I dont know you, I've never met your pop, and I've not met your pops friend, so what you're saying could be true, but could very well not be, as many people will talk big over the internet.

It's true the SR20DET is illegal in California. Obviously JDM engine swaps do not come with the proper emissions equipment and we all know California is very strict when it comes to emissions. If it aint certified by CARB(California Air Resource Board) it's illegal. But some people still manage to get away with engine swaps and custom turbo setups. When you get pulled over and the cop is uncertain about your engine setup he'll send you to the state REFEREE and you will get owned... :D

thank you for corroborating my point. but yeah floh, i got too lazy to check the lawbook, so **** it. have fun and good luck with cops ;x

Still just means that if you pass an inspection you're fine. This isnt the stone age anymore, you're allowed to have an aftermarket turbo on your vehicle, so seeing one wouldnt really hurt your inspection too much. Due to the fact that finding official documentation on this issue is so taxing that it has caused you to be lethargic, I'm calling ricers myth on this one.

For a moment, lets just say it is illegal. How about not doing anything to get pulled over? You shouldnt be doing anything on the road to warrant that anyway. If you act recklessly on the road, I hope they impound your car, SR20DET or not. Save it for the track, no need being an uber street ricer and getting someone hurt. I havent been pulled over since I was 17, I'm 24 now...

I dont have to worry about any police, my car is a real project car, its not street legal anyway. I have removed the plates and killed insurance on it, so taking it on the road wouldnt be the wisest of all ideas. My vehicle gets from point a to point b on a trailer.

Edit: Doesnt matter if you find 10 more people to agree with your story, you can go to any bbs and find the same thing, people that say its illegal, and people that say it isnt, yet no official proof is ever posted. Innocent until proven guilty right?

It has to be CARB aproved you cant just slap on any turbo. Sure you might get lucky and pass smog but eventually you will get caught. I think Greddy makes a couple turbo kits that are CARB approved but you can still get drilled by the SMOG people for it. some Smog places wont even touch your car if it has an exhaust or intake even if they are CARB approved.

It IS illegal trust me I have lived in California my whole life. :) If you still think ricer myth go google "CARB" and search their website you will find everything official there.

thank you again for once more corroborating my point. floh, searching for legal documentation wasn't so "taxing" that it made me "lethargic," i just got lazy and decided to watch tv instead. there's no point in arguing about this anyways, because if and when you get pulled over, you'll realize the "ricer myth" is true.

and in california, you don't even have to be driving idioticly to get pulled over. i get pulled over at least once a week just because of how my car looks. i drive like a grandma, yet i still get pulled over. so down here, you don't really have to be doing something dumb to get pulled over.

I'm so glad I don't live in Cali...

Up here in Skagit County (Washington State) we don't have to get smogged... Seattle has CARB laws, but we don't... I didn't even have a cat on my last car (MK2 Jetta GLI)...

;)

Tip 1: Read what I type. I wont get pulled over in my car, it doesnt have plates or insurance, I take it places on my trailer.

Tip 2: Look at my pictures. What state are my plates from? Texas... California laws didnt apply to me when I had my car on the road anyway.

Tip 3: Your car is riced out. Your car is slammed, you have a front end that isnt painted correctly, you probably dont have silencers in your "too big for my displacement" exhaust (of which the only byproduct is increased noise) and you probably have several decals of your "S-family" or whatever, and I'm going to take a stab and say you probably have an overly loud stereo in your car to go along with your rice motif (if not, your exterior is more than enough). Your car is a target to get pulled over, that is no suprise.

well i apologize that my car is riced out. we all have our own preferences to how we fix up our cars. my main thing that i wanted to accomplish with my car when i got it was looks and handling. i have accomplished those goals. if i had more money, and i wished to **** around with smog laws, i would swap or just turbo my KA. but i don't want to deal with california's smog laws. and i did read what you wrote, i just assumed that you do drive it on the street every once in a while. i guess i was wrong. i thought this was a thread for people who loved S-Chassis cars, i guess i was wrong. maybe it's a thread for hardheaded people who are not open to how other people do their cars....from all of your posts that's sure what it seems like to me. but, i guess your method to fixing up a car is the only right way, right?

did you ever think that maybe i don't have the money to pay for a paintjob? did you ever think that other people like different things than you? why do you feel the need to be so critical that you need to put down someone else's car on the internet? i don't remember ever saying anything bad about you or your car. i was just trying to tell you that laws in california are different from most other states. i apologize if i hurt your feelings, or made you feel the need to flame me and my car.

I'll be the first not to dog someone for lack of funds dude. I make close to nothing as an E-4 in the USAF. I never said your car sucks (if your car runs, it doesnt suck, its doing its job), I was just stating a fact of why you are subject to getting pulled over. Picture this scene if you will:

You are driving around. You spot a, lets say Honda Accord, as they are the prototype for rice, and the H22 has a displacement close to the KA24. This Honda Accord's motor is stock, it has an Integra front end that isnt painted, lowered to hell, decals, and has a 3 inch exhaust. What would you say?

Sadly, you are in the rice catagory. You've done things that are extremely unnecessary to your vehicle and cost too much, and your motor is stock. You could have waited until you had funds to afford to paint the front end before you put it on, which would have lowered your car a couple degree's of rice. Your catback is extrem waste of funds (which probably could have gone to painting your front end), stock piping was more than enough for the KA, and its a ton more quiet. All of the above (with the exception of stock motor, because a cop isnt going to know if your motor is stock or not before pulling you over), cause you to become a target. But hey, you do your thing, its your pocketbook.

Earlier this month, before I removed my plates and insurance, I drove my car up to my parents house (a trek I made in my S14 w/SR20DET several times before its wreck). I drove nearly the whole state of cali ( I10, to I5, all the way up to Cottonwood where my parents live), making stops in Moreno Valley and Monterey (each were day long visits with friends), and didnt get pulled over. Why? My car looks stock for the most part, I have silencers, and I drive the speed limit. You've got 1/3. Paint and a silencer would do you a world of good right now.

i'll agree with that. although i don't call other people's cars rice =\

but thanks for the input, i'm trying to save money for paint right now but it's hard...but one of these days the money will be here...
