I watched that video by "The Know" on Sunday. Well, I watched the opening about how they had no new footage but would be talking about the story. They said "If you don't want the game spoiled, do the responsible thing and stop the video" so I did.

I think people make too big a deal about spoilers now days. If it's a movie or a game with an actual story, that's one thing, but a game like NMS doesn't have a story and much of the gameplay and features have already been shown in one trailer or another. Oh well, in 4 more days it won't even matter who's streaming what.

I think some spoilers should be linked.
I mean come on, actual gameplay of it could make it better and more people would buy.
Although it could go the other way and no one would want to play it.

I would say the biggest thing is that they don't want people to show what took them nearly what 3 years to complete? I think that alone is the reason why they don't want to spoil it for others.

This isn't necessarily true for No Man's Sky, but... You know, I'm under the impression that devs/publishers that have faith in their game actually living up to the hype aren't enforcing NDA's anywhere near as strictly as those who don't. Leaked gameplay that's actually great and compelling ought to be considered free advertisement. Showing that a game's primary selling point is hype with nothing actually backing said hype up - that's what strictly enforced NDA's are for, imho.

As far as NMS goes... Well, I'm interested in the game (if only because the procedural generation of the universe sounds utterly amazing) but I'm holding off until I can get a decently accurate impression of whether or not the gameplay is going to hold my interest. If it amounts to uneventful floating around space until you get your eventually Skinner Box trigger every few hours by discovering new loot planets and species, I'll probably pass. In that regard, it'd be pretty neat to actually see some gameplay footage that's not part of an orchestrated trailer.

Ugh

"official" streams should be incoming, once it's patched I guess

and a hairdresser's space ship?

Sean Murray can get a big 🤬. His over protection of this game has turned me off from Hello Studios and ALL of its future products. I am anxiously awaiting a Jimquision episode over this whole debacle, even if I have to wait two weeks for it.

Wasn't the August 12 release for PC known for a couple of weeks now?
There was a lot of conflicting information and Sean should have cleared it up sooner, people seem to be making a pretty big deal about this little delay when in a couple of weeks time they will have forgotten all about it and in a couple of months stopped playing the game.

What I don't understand is what exactly would they need to do in those three days? The game already "gone gold", and I doubt you can add any more to the PC version in that small span of time. The only reason I can think of is that Sean cleared with Sony and MS to release their game on consoles first. This gives console players a head-start, while PC players are left waiting. Plus, considering all the leaks, it would have been smart just to release the game on all platforms on the same day.

There's really only two explanations:

A) They stumbled across a game breaking, frequent bug that somehow wasn't taken care of during QA and are banging out a hotfix ASAP or
B) The PC versions is postponed, as you said, in an attempt to drive up the sales of the console version - which seems to be the norm, these days.

@Luminis
PC was delayed to be where a full release worldwide instead of some being on Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday.
While the consoles/Retail are more dependent on their country of release. (So they have to follow their schedule, not their own)

Day one update ? Im hoping sli/cf support, 21/9 and 4k.

I believe it's due to a Sony agreement, that anything related to the PC version could not be marketed and talked about, plus the delay off course...

Some guys starting planet - nice

Don't get your hopes up.
Day one update is reset servers for those who were playing before release.
Bug fixes.
Balancing issues.
New content.

wonder what they are considering as new content? I can already guess what the bug fixes and balancing issues will be

Is it going to be something as small as implementing the option to change to imperial system and adding an FOV slider?

I hope the D1 patch resets everything on the servers and people playing prior to D1 have to start over with the rest of us.

I also think Sony really dropped the ball on this one. People who are looking to buy a game should know what they're getting into. I understand HG and Shaun wants to keep a certain shroud of mystery about thier game, however this is never going to happen. If one of the largest corporations (Apple) can't keep a lid on their phones etc then how can a small Dev team hope to do that? To me that's just arrogant.

Overall it's a mess, but as we're so close to the day of release Sony need to chill and let the chips fall where they may.

Surely these bugs would show up in the console version too?

I don't think the day one patch will contain that sort of stuff. 21:9 support will most likely just be in the game already, and 4K is easily selectable if the resolution is unrestricted. As for SLI/Crossfire support, NVIDIA/AMD are responsible for bringing working profiles, in collab with Sean and his team.

An FOV slider I feel is necessary to have. The 21:9 support basically beckons such a feature.

Yeah, I think that is the right way to do the day one patch.

Sony said they are resetting the servers on Sunday, No mention on what would happen if people play afterwards if they have to reset them again on Monday or just keep them offline?

Unless it's brought about by something specific to the PC version / the port.

Those gamebreaking bugs are on consoles and that's why even sony has hinted a patch on Monday, Day 0 release to fix it.
The reddit guy was on PS4 when he leaked the content out.

Patch v1.03 details

http://www.no-mans-sky.com/2016/08/update-1-03/

It will be available on Monday for press for review once it exits submission, and on launch for public on PC and PS4. We expect future updates like these to continue to be free.

Next up we’re adding the ability to build bases and own giant space freighters. Temporal AA and my new cloud rendering tech should be coming soon too. It will really change the game again, and enhance it visually.

Beware these notes contain some spoilers. Here are some things our little team has been up to over the last four or five weeks:

  • The Three Paths – there are now new, unique “paths” you can follow throughout the game. You must start the game on a fresh save, with the patch, as early choices have significant impact on what you see later in the game, and the overall experience.
  • The Universe – we changed the rules of the universe generation algorithm. Planets have moved. Environments have changed biomes. Galaxies have altered shape. All to create greater variety earlier. Galaxies are now up to 10x larger.
  • Diversity – Creatures are now more diverse in terms of ecology and densities on planets.
  • Planets – we’ve added dead moons, low atmosphere and extreme hazardous planets. Extreme hazards include blizzards and dust storms.
  • Atmosphere – space, night time and day skies are now 4x more varied due to new atmospheric system, which refracts light more accurately to allow for more intense sunsets.
  • Planet rotation – play testing has made it obvious people are struggling to adjust to this during play so it’s effects have been reduced further…
  • Terrain generation – caves up to 128m tall are now possible. Geometric anomalies have been added. Underwater erosion now leads to more interesting sea beds.
  • Ship diversity – a wider variety of ships appear per star system, and are available to purchase. Cargo and installed technology now vary more, and ships have more unique attributes.
  • Inventory – ship inventories now store 5 times more resources per slot. Suit inventories now store 2.5 times more per slot. This encourages exploration and gives freedom from the beginning. We’re probably going to increase this even further in the next update, for people in the latter game phases, and will allow greater trading potential.
  • Trading – trading is deeper. Star systems and planets each have their own wants and needs, based off a galactic economy. Observing these is the key to successful trading. We still working on adjusting this based on how everyone plays, but all trading values have been rebalanced across the galaxy, giving a greater depth. A bunch of trade exploits were uncovered and have been removed
  • Feeding – creatures now have their own diet, based on planet and climate. Feeding them correctly will yield different results per species, such as mining for you, protecting the player, becoming pets, alerting you to rare loot or pooping valuable resources.
  • Survival – recharging hazard protection requires rare resources, making shielding shards useful again. Storms can be deadly. Hazard protection and suit upgrades have been added. Liquids are often more dangerous
  • Graphical effects – Lighting and texture resolution have been improved. Shadow quality has doubled. Temporal AA didn’t make it in time, but it’s so close
  • Balancing – several hundred upgrades have had stat changes (mainly exo-suit and ship, but also weapon), new upgrades have been added.
  • Combat – Auto Aim and weapon aim has been completely rewritten to feel more gentle in general, but stickier when you need it. Sentinels now alert each other, if they haven’t been dealt with quickly. Quad and Walker AI is now much more challenging, even I struggle with them without a powered up weapon.
  • Space Combat – advanced techniques have been introduced, like brake drifting and critical hits. Bounty missions and larger battles now occur. Pirate frequency has been increased, as well as difficulty depending on your cargo.
  • Exploits – infinite warp cell exploit and rare goods trading exploit among other removed. People using these cheats were ruining the game for themselves, but people are weird and can’t stop themselves ¯\_(シ)_/¯
  • Stability – foundations for buildings on super large planets. Resolved several low repro crashes, in particular when player warped further than 256 light years in one session (was only possible due to warp cell exploit above).
  • Space Stations – interiors are now more varied, bars, trade rooms and hydroponic labs have been added
  • Networking – Ability to scan star systems other players have discovered on the Galactic Map, increasing the chance of collision. Star systems discovered by other players appear during Galactic Map flight
  • Ship scanning – scanning for points of interest from your ship is now possible. Buildings generate earlier and show up in ship scans
  • Flying over terrain – pop-in and shadow artefacts have been reduced. Generation speed has been increased two fold (planets with large bodies of water will be targeted in next update)
  • Writing – The Atlas path has been rewritten by James Swallow (writer on Deus Ex) and me. I think it speaks to the over-arching theme of player freedom more clearly now. Early mission text has been rewritten to allow for multiple endings.

And damn even the Multitool is procedural!

The patch sounds like it will improve the game significantly, after reading what's coming in future patches all they need now is to add a few land based vehicles and make it easy to play co-op with someone and they've pretty much nailed it.

Well looks like the gold version issued clearly had lots of things the guys back at HG were aware of and had plans to patch.

This partially explains thier reluctance to send review copies and why they hated on early streams etc.
