So how is it guys? IGN in progress review wasn't too glowing of the initial day's play. What is your experience? Think I'm going to wait for the PC version anyway but would love to get your thoughts.

Good first hour video - gives you a good taste of the visuals and gameplay loop on a basic level

PS4 version runs at 30 fps, with some rare drops according to this Digital Foundry vid
Looks like it could run much higher, but they decided to lock it at 30

@CoolColJ I have heard that it was supposed to run 60 fps from the stream that was done yesterday. So why is it at 30 fps, unless it was changed in the 1.03 patch.

It's always been at 30, just that most people can't tell I guess :)
It's a locked 30fps, so it's smooth
Someone did an offscreen video capture at 60p, and every second frame off the leaked pre patch copies, was repeated

Only the IGN gameplay vids have been at 60, but those are most likely running on Dev kits or PC.
The game has much more detail now, so maybe they decided to lock it at 30 for future expansion

I could see it being 60 pre patch then when they added more "fill" probably dropped it to 30 for less strain on the consoles anyways.

In one of the demo's by Sean he mentioned 1080p 60fps. I suspect that they have locked it at 30 with the patch to improve their rendering distance and reduce pop-up.

That's what I thought, Since a lot of people that were in the stream on yesterdays post patch was still saying 60 fps.
Then it's now confirmed 30 to suspect that

Midnight can't come around quick enough.

Between this, Absolute Zen and AC August is a great month this year.

I guess some people in the UK are playing now. I have one friend that is already playing and she is from the UK.

Is it really that good? I've been following this for a while but now that we know that the pop-in is bad, the game has a bad FOV, it only runs at 30fps and the textures seem very low res it sounds like they've messed it up.

All of those are issues due to the PS4 (FOV aside).

Basically it drops as low as 15 fps when you're traveling low and very fast over a planet. But on-foot exploration sticks at 30fps.

I'm disappointed to hear about the amount of pointless busywork and micromanaging involved in this game, which also seems to be getting in the way of exploration judging by early impressions. I still really, reeeaally want to get this game though as I've been waiting ages since its reveal and partially is a game I've always dreamed of playing. Help me, fellow GTPers.

Finally got all I need to get my ship in working order, about 3 hours in. Fly a few miles on starting planet, land and I press the R stick.....I can run! 3 hours walking. This is why I shouldn't play these games, smh.

Guess you must have missed this tip :)

Found this out earlier. If you melee, you do a small lunge. If you melee and then use the jetpack at the same time, you'll get a nice boost in speed that is much faster that sprinting.

I can't 100% say yet but I think if you sprint, melee and then jetpack, you'll go ever further.

Gif above is just one example of it - I've managed to go a lot further that I haven't capped yet.

I don't see it as a big deal. The game wasn't even designed with co-op in mind so it doesn't really matter.

Anyway, I just got my copy. Can't wait for the update to finish downloading (and knowing what the internet is like in my area, that could be a while from now). In the lead up to this moment, I've had a lot of fun checking out screenshots of other players first planets. I remember early on, a lot of people were saying they would stick around on their first planet to explore a bit but it seems many people have been placed on toxic planets which kind of spoil that idea!

This is extremely disappointing. :grumpy:

I purposely avoided looking too much into this game, the concept sounded like a game I would be into, so I am trying to save everything as a bit of a surprise..... But one thing I knew was that it is primarily a single player game. I had heard there is a very slim possibility that you might see someone on your journeys, turns out this probably isn't even the case....And I'm perfectly happy with that :).

I did go to the Steam forums (I'll be getting it on PC) to see if there is some up to date system requirements....Wish I hadn't, there is a massive 🤬 fight going on, every post is pretty much someone complaining....They lied to us! Its not multiplayer !!...... If you all want a headache go visit the Steam forums for NMS

Anyway, looking forward to it releasing on PC, cant wait for a bit of flying around space, exploring different planets....Sounds like a nice relaxing game for my stressed out world

Everything I'm reading about people's first impressions leave me with a positive vibe. I like that the survival aspect is more enhanced than what people expected too. Can't wait for more of the GTP'ers impressions o f the first day.

The indie survival game Dont Starve is one of my favorites of the last few years. Im really glad to hear survival is a big part of No Mans Sky

Thinking about getting this, $48 for No Mans Sky if your an amazon prime member. Think it expires in a couple of hours though

On the subject of the PC version delay (it's coming on August 12, while the PlayStation 4 edition is out on August 9), Murray said "there's no conspiracy."

PC it is for me as well.

Curious to hear what kind of settings you have to use with a GTX970 to get a solid 60 fps.

Just spent about 3 hours discovering my first home planet ''LV-426'' hehe, not bad for a first planet,it is scorched at 40 degrees but has some interesting caving systems....just found a monolith and ive repaired most things on the ship. There 3 other planets in the system so will need to check those out, what a mental experience, you could spend hours just exploring and discovering an area of a planet. Just found my first colony outpost so off to see what that is. Very impressed so far.
