I'm just looking now and I think you have to have bought the 'pre-Purchase' Option and not 'Purchase'. That's a stupid system.

So Jim Sterling did a review of this game the other day, and gave it a 5/10. Apparently shortly after, his site was DDoS'ed.

It's up now if you want to read it: http://www.thejimquisition.com/no-mans-sky-review/ (Note: Language)

Here's Sterling's response:

So a couple of issues I've noticed.

* Saving at any outpost causes the game to hang for a good 2 seconds.
* Every once in a while after launching off the ground you're vaulted back into space.
* Your mining tool just stops breaking down ores in the oddest of places, but is perfectly capable in others all while extracting from the same rich deposit.
* I can't stack like items: Gek Charms, Fascination Beads, etc, but I can sale them together no problem (Not an "issue" per se, just a legitimate complaint/gripe).

That one is because there is some "minor" differences.
Mostly the price when you sell. Since I notice I could sell one at say 5000u and then another one of the same would sell at 5500u, even though they are exactly the same.

@Terronium-12

I've run into nothing game breaking yet. The only bug on your list I've encountered is when mining it stops while trying to extract everything from large deposits.

So far no crashes (touch wood)

This is basically what I expected since they announced the game:

I’ve seen so many planets, met so many aliens, and mined so much goddamn carbon and not once have I been surprised. Not once has the game thrown me a curveball. Every new location is just a different colored home for the same old routine, and the procedural generation means that things feel far less diverse than they could be – when randomized pools replace handcrafted designs, the lego bricks piecing everything together are far too obvious.

I might still pick it up for the Brian-Eno-like "ambient" gameplay. They've done something rather interesting here I think in that it's less of a game and more of a sensoral experience. Whereas a traditional game might focus on structure & narrative, NMS, at it's best, seems to be more about tone & atmosphere. It's as ignorable as it is interesting

Cool thanks. That also confirms that I wont be able to download it until the evening. I guess I might as well cancel that half day from work then. :grumpy:

Ah man that really sucks.. But it's worth the wait :) It has been a while since I wanted to play so bad I refused to get sleep. At around 5 am I fell asleep as I was heading for a planet, I woke up because my controller was shaking heavily. Then continued to play till ~7 am and then fell asleep at a space station, but really like KO since I woke up around 14 pm

Hm. I've never noticed that, I haven't even noticed any price differences when trading either. That's something to look out for on my part, but even then wouldn't that have more to do with whatever the item is being readily available on the planet?

I had a crash just last night but I didn't lose anything major, other than the few materials I hadn't transferred over from my old ship to the new one; nothing that couldn't easily be replaced though.

I've played very few games where I've done next to nothing while having fun, and fewer still that encourage such a play style. Sure there's an underlying narrative of what you're supposed to do, but when you choose to go down that path is entirely up to you. I don't think "up to you" has applied to any game more than this one.

The planet that I am on, Lots of gold, (which is nice can do a quick sell for 110Ku) and I guess drop pods too.
I think I found like 4 of them or 5, either way I got a good system on it. Mine gold, Sell Gold, Buy Drop pods, repeat.

Just spent 30 minutes reading the Steam forums for NMS. What chance has the human race got? It's depressing.

It really depends on what you're expecting. It's a solid game that has one game-breaking bug that I've read on so far, so you might want to wait until at least that problem is fixed.

It's not really game breaking if you don't have the pre order ship.
It's the ship that is causing the problems more than anything.

I have the pre order ship but I didn't redeem it until after the tutorial.

So does any new ship not have a hyperdrive fitted? I have the pre order ship so maybe i should hold off buying a new one..

Buying ships off of traders do have hyperdrive. (Well the ones I have seen.) Some crashed ones have them too.
It's mostly the starter ship that doesn't which going through the tutorial doesn't take long, then use the pre order one.

You can see what is installed when you want to buy it. But I haven't found any without yet :)

I gave a couple of warnings about that in here.

Will give another.....Don't visit the Steam forums unless you want a serious headache !!

Ah ok,so how come they say that is a game breaking bug,if you have the pre-order ship you wouldnt go back to the original starter ship - youd upgrade to a better ship with hyperdrive already included.

I kind of wish i stayed with the starter ship now,as i skipped the whole creating a hyperdrive bit.

I think they call it a game breaking since if you did it before the tutorial and transfer everything over you get stuck.
There are a lot of people saying if you have it don't redeem it until after tutorial mission.

Second crash. First while trying to access my ship, and this one while trying to open a door. I wish I knew what was triggering it.

NEED HELP

I have a huge problem.

Apart from the game crashing once early on, I haven't had any real issues until now.

I landed on a planet, and as soon as it open my cockpit, the game glitched me underneath the map in some sort of water. I was able to move and breatj if I used my jetpack. But I never could get back above ground. So I let myself drown. That was a huge mistake.

It spawned me at the nearest space station that I most frequently visited. Not bad right? Mu ship is still on the planet. :ill:

Every time I get close to getting a new ship I find a drop pod. Getting annoyed at that because I keep buying new slots for my pack instead of trying to get a new ship.

Edit: For a max inventory in suit (48) you will need 6,300,000 units.
That's a lot of selling and buying and everything.

Super helpful game mechanics that are never explained to you. (self.NoMansSkyTheGame)

submitted 10 hours ago * by MrPancakesMcgee

EDIT: The game does explain some of these, though some of us have just missed the info, or the tips never showed up in the bottom right, because it was listing quest directions, or telling us to redeem the bonuses.

Hey fellow explorers! So part of the joy of No Man's Sky is learning by doing, and learning by failing. The game doesn't explain a lot of things very clearly, which can provide a great "experience" as you feel like you're discovering how everything works on your own. But it can also be frustrating. For those of you looking to ease that frustration, here are some "tips" of how the mechanics work for parts of the game that are never taught to you.

-----Basics-----

Flashlight: Hit "up" on the D-Pad.

Restore HUD: Hit "left" on the D-Pad (u/lionturtl3)

Melee: R1.

Triple Zoom: When zooming (L2), you can click the right thumbstick to zoom in further two times. (This makes analyzing from a distance much easier.)

Waypointing: Scanning with the visor(L2) a structure will mark it white, using the scan ability (L3) will remove it. (u/cojimaster)

-----Movement-----

Sprint Hop: While walking/sprinting tap melee and then immediately tap jump. You'll get a massively boosted jump, roughly 4x the speed of sprinting, which really helps with getting around on foot. (u/Evil_phd)

Jetpack Climb: When face-to-face with a steep hill or cliff, you can hold down the jetpack button, while walking forward, and the jetpack will help you climb vertically. It will never run out like it does when jumping through the air.

Underwater Movement: If you are underwater and hold X you will climb faster but it doesn't use any jet pack fuel. To swim faster....activate jetpack to propel yourself out of the water. While hovering a fair distance above the water, release jetpack and look down. After dropping back into the water, look towards the direction you want to go and you will continue to swim at the same speed as your jetpack. Surface for oxygen when needed and repeat. (u/sachiel416 and u/Williamsloan)

-----Inventory/Equipment/Upgrades/-----

Inventory Stacking: Each slot in your suit can hold up to 250 of any resource. Each slot in your ship can hold up to 500.

Stack Green/Rare Items: This is super helpful as these items do not stack on their own. It's a bit of a process to understand, so check out the explanation here (Possibly a big, not a mechanic, but thanks u/Cmdr_Darko!)

Targeted Transfer Into: If you hit Triangle on an empty slot in the ship or exo-suit inventory you will be able to select the item from the other inventory that you wish to place there. (u/kjlonline)

Upgrades Add-Up: Upgrades for your ship, suit, and multitool are additive. (Ex: Having a +1 mining beam cool down, and a +2 mining beam cool down is better than just having the +2.)

Upgrade Placement: Upgrades should be placed next to the item they're boosting, or next to a previous upgrade that's connected to the same item. (Ex: A scanner upgrade should be be placed next to the scanner, or next to a previous upgrade that's connected to the scanner.) When this happens, you'll see a colored ring appear around the upgrade, which means the upgrade is working at max capacity.

  • Most upgrades will work regardless of where they're placed, but clustered upgrades (colored rings mentioned above) give bonuses to each other, even when the cluster itself is not next to the parent item. For instance, Cannon Damage +1, +2 and +3 still combine together and give huge bonuses even when they're not connected to the Plasma Cannon item. (u/aerosplat)
Recharging equipment: You can quickly recharge suit and ship components by "stacking" the recharging resource on top of the component. (Ex. To recharge your Life Support, click on a red resource as if you were going to move it to another slot, and then click on Life Support.)

Weapon Switching and Reloading: Hit Triangle to switch weapons in your ship, and to switch weapons on your multi-tool. Hit Square to reload weapons on your multi-tool. Use L1 to use the grenade launcher (once installed), and when out of ammo, use L1 to reload as well.

Mining Laser Quick Cooldown: While mining, let go of the trigger for just a second before overheating, and immediately start firing again. (Probably bug, not a mechanic.)

-----Ship-----

Cockpit View: External cockpit models on ships affect your view while inside it. Pick the bubble-style or other seamless models for best visibility. (u/Herrenos)

Ship Take-off Without Resource Use: If you land on a landing pad, or by a designated landing post/callback post, at an Outpost or other location, you don't use any fuel on takeoff. Also landing on a landing pad allows you to sell items from your ship at a trading terminal. (u/tekkou)

Pirate Attacks: The more precious your cargo the more likely you'll get targeted by pirates. (u/Traaailz)

I quit my game and booted it back up. I am still at the space station. And my ship is still on a planet. Is my game permanently over?

Well you could try buy a new ship from the traders that visit the station :)

The outpost on the planet can call your ship to a landing spot, maybe you can do that from the station?
