Awesome! Chris (Madkart) is a good friend so it's really great that CBM made it in. They're definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with.
I'm starting a Google docs sheet with initial planning for the day of the event. Theories and sims on driver swap scheduling, staying fed and hydrated, optimal sleep patterns, etc.

Thanks to this series I've also finally decided to invest in a racing sim seat/rig. Which I'll be buying as a Christmas present to myself lol. No way we're gonna do 24 hours in my office chair.

Also, I'm getting together with my uncle to get my girlfriend's charity licensed asap so when I broadcast the race (using both an in-room web cam and in-game HD-PVR dual stream through my live stream channel @*Twitch.tv) we're going to be doing it to raise awareness for her charity called "ReWard" that goes from hospital to hospital helping renovate children's wards by redecorating, restoring, fixing and generally bringing brighter spirits to old hospitals that haven't had the budget to do so themselves. And they'll also be allowing the kids, which some have to remain there for a very long time, to assist in suping up their own rooms. Should be a really amazing way to do essentially a gaming marathon for a great cause that'd make me so happy for people to be able to donate to in support and watching us attempt the great feat of 24 hours.

Thanks for the opportunity Kurt, and the rest of the Shifted team and company, for your continued hard work.

It's sure to be a legend 👍

Thank you Wardez! Wow I can't believe we will do this for charity! Now I'm even more excited for this race! This has been the best organized event so far! I'm way too excited for February! Btw Wardez there's a XBOX Live race today don't forget haha

Well, I'm gonna be doing it for charity, not the event as a whole. Actually some of the other teams are talking about doing a stream for their own charities as well.

This is the second news of charity for this event. Very nice Wardez. props.

We have a team of real race drivers and automotive journalists among the registrees that will also race for charity and it may be televised as well...I'll let them anounce it when comes the time...:)

EDIT:
Would like to know if we have any volounteers that aren't racing for helping with the event. I would need some media writers at least if we want to open another lobby. Thanks!

I'll do an insiders race review afterwards from a racers point of view

I got an idea for another event. 24 hr circuit de la sarthe. :D And at the same time a smaller le mans championship (On spa etc.) It would be hosted just like this. Except in le mans cars. Being raved on the days of the le mans final. Cars would be prenium ore standard lemans GT1 and GT cars. Teams would be on 3 drivers and a manager. The event's weather would be maintained to the irl weather.. So.. Is it a good idea: D ?
Oh btw. If its not to late i would love to join and make a team. My skill in gt5 is excellent and if you find a 1 hour le mans event its probaly me 💡

I was gathering a team but it seems I was too late :(

One question:

If I build a car and the HP is lke 300 ( like in this event ) I take the car to the track, drive few laps and go back to the pit, it shows the HP at 320 or so ????
How have you prevented this ?

According to testing performed by Tunerspit.com, the hp due to break in of the engine updates once to exit the race. So you shouldn't have teams gaining in hp from an engine being broken in during the race.

Hey let me know if you decide to hold like a 4 hour endro or something. I will be sure to join in on that. At Daytona Road Couse maybe?

I will be away for one week with no internet. The registered teams know what to do since we've been in constant communication. They are also preparing some documents so all of us can get to know them better ;)
Once I get back, I'll look at the volounteers we have to open another room and see if it's possible. I have a feeling it would be for next year instead.

Have a great week!

Wait, what?!! Registration complete?! NO!! I just got a team ready and everything. :( Any way I can sneak in? :D

Wish I would have come across this sooner...would love to do this but I don''t think I could get a team together. If I were doing it I think I'd use the AMEMIYA RX-7 I've ran that car at the NURB with specs pretty close to your rules and regs and it handled very well and wasn't all that slow! It's a damn good car....BTW, what's the deal with 15 entrants? why not do the whole 16?

This is obviously not a NASCAR thread, but ask anyone who is seriously into racing nascar on gt5 and they will all tell you that a car that's not broken in yet will absolutely gain horsepower during the race...just like a broke in car will lose HP during a long race. The reason I bring up NASCAR is because there are no mixed opinions, we all use the the same type of car with the same specs while they are new as well as broken in...as a matter of fact there are people(including myself) who will use a brand new car on a long race at daytona or indy because of the gain in HP...sure you may be slower with the 824 hp (864 if you change oil before break in) but at the end of the race you will be at the peak of your HP, while at the end of a race in a broke in car you will be at your lowest hp...Anyway, I don't know anything about Tunerspit.com but I do know that the gain in HP on a new car should be taken into consideration!

So Kurt when do you will open a lobby for training ?

Hey mate, don't expect a reply from Kurt for at least a week... He posted this yesterday:
I will be away for one week with no internet

Maybe send him a PM mate, he will get that and reply when he returns 👍

I second this reply

I have been tuning some cars and racing on here as a practice and finding some of the best cars for the comp (I have my favorites) and I noticed with a few of my cars that I brought specifically for the practice that down the back straight after 4 to 5 laps I was around 10mph quicker. I defiantly does update in game..

One car I used on here was 557pp when I finished a long run and tune it was at 562pp, Big jump in a short space of time..

EDIT:
Just another thing I noticed too, I don't know if anyone is silly enough to do this but I found a few cars in my garage that I haven't maintained very well (not changed the oil) and the bhp was low enough to enter because of the bad oil. It seems a bit daft to race a car like this as it will only get worse during the race, however you could potentially use an Audi R 10, advantage or not I don't know ??

I too have a team, I would be willing to run one of these around the same time frame. If anyone is planning another please send me a PM. We have an international team looking for an excuse to get together to race as a team!

I did post early in this thread but did not get a response as to how many teams were on the waiting list. Unfortunately I was a little late and our team really cant sit on a waiting list because some travel plans have to be made!

This really sucks. I have a team ready to go and I never got a strait answer on internet speed from him and now I read that there is 15 teams. This is the answer he gave me in the last PM "For upload it's 800kb/s download I think was 3-4mb" I was never told that it was ok to register with my crap speed now and make sure i have it upgraded before the event. The "I THINK" in his requirements did not sit well with me because I have to schedule internet to be changed out ahead of time and pay for a plan that I know would be strong enough.

How was I supposed to register with the weak connection I have now without confirmation that it was ok to register that way because I am going to upgrade just for this????

I even planned on sponsoring this event with my SIMulation FAB Sim Chassis to the first place team or the second place team if my team were to win and I even told him about this in PM. Would have expected some sort of follow up before registering the full amount of teams.

I MAY consider still sponsoring this event, but I really wanted to drive.

Hey dude

I cannot speak for Kurt on this but I highly recommend you send him a PM with your concerns and await his reply. I imagine there is not a lot that he can do but certainly send him a PM.

I know that there is talk of a second race, perhaps you can work with him and the others who are keen to help get it up and running and then perhaps you can enter that? That of course all depends on what is happening in the background regarding a potential second event, it may not be going ahead at all but it has been mentioned as an option but helpers are needed to get it underway.

I see your frustrations bro but definately send him a PM and hopefully he can get back to you ASAP 👍

It's not that simple. This is a 24 hour race remember? Doing it the day after's a no go. That would mean racing from Sunday into Monday, get it?

Also, Kurt has limited resources in the form of volunteers with the team checking every one's lap, which is a monumental task in itself (lol, those guys should get their own medal, not just us drivers). So just saying, " Just make a second lobby dude!" is so naive.

^This.

Huge amounts of effort going on in the background on this and I agree with my redbull skolling compadre above, Kurt & Ko deserve all the accolades they can get.

As Kurt said in another post he needs help for a second event so to anyone who wants that second event I say this: Instead of posting about wanting it offer him help or ask around and see if you can get someone who can, there's more chance of it happening if K has the resources available to run it & the people who really want a second race should be the ones offering the most help.

Just bin reading this looks very good i did the 24h le mans in A spec on my own so i no just how hard it is for the game to get the better of you lol good luck you lot !!

I have an idea. Im pretty sure those 15 teams listed on the OP arent the only ones that have signed up. I have signed up my team and I have yet to see it on the OP. How about we qualify for the 16 spots for the race?

This seems more fair to everyone. This will show who truly is commited. 👍

Because one entrant is the wurks.ca organising comitee that will dispatch split info to the team managers. ;)

Ok great info sir!!
I'm sure teams will take that into consideration. Part of the planning!!

Thanks for your support Heathenpride!!

Guys the vision we have of this event in a few years is to run a huge event. For now, we have to prove we can run a tight event with a reduced number of people. For every group of 15 teams, it takes 4 volounteers. We have no choice but to start small and work our way up to a bigger event one step at a time. Thanks

I could see how that might seem naive to someone who hasn't been in the thick of an actual race weekend, but despite the growing pains that will inevitably come with this new venture, I can assure you given the telemetry done by the PS3 natively and the lack of cars in motion. It will get boring tracking only 15 or so cars. Which to amend my previous statement, a second lobby should be run simultaneously. That or stagger the races to opposite weekends, If people are so serious about racing in a hardcore endurance race they should be willing to participate in the track side monitoring of another race so other teams can compete.

And not to be a rain cloud and/or beat a dead horse but again the lack of a qualifier is frustrating specially considering the demand as well as the fact that we don't know if Team A is capable of driving fender to fender with Team B while staying within acceptable conduct, which as I'm sure (the demand) was much higher then expected, but these are the kind of things every fledgling race organization has to deal with.

But as a community, we can't say "this is too much" or "that idea would never work" etc.

We need to be brainstorming as a whole to find a solution, that said I'm still very happy to know that the ball is rolling for something more serious then the WRS and such. I'm looking forward to the race and most importantly what it will inevitably bring to the community in the form of subsequent races and hopefully a racing season.

You are partially right, and Wardez may have more info than you at the moment regarding the organising task at hand.

We have 4 people running the event during the race. It's 24 hrs so 2 shifts. So at any given time, we have two people onsite working. One person caters to the fans to bring them updates on the hour, and the other is the race tech that brings the split info to the other managers via the watchrace screen.
The race tech has to do the following:

Watch for any battles that might take place, or passing of any sort and make sure that the contact rules are respected.
Enforce those rules via the chat to the destined manager.
Answer any questions related to the watchrace screen (we can't just stream the entire screen because of resolution issues, so a mix of a zoomed camera on a tripod and the chat will get the appropriate info to the managers). Keep in mind that serious managers will be getting splits from fore and aft teams quite often.
Take all positions down every lap in the event of a disconnection from server for the 'full course yellow'.

I currently have 3 of 4 people needed for the one room. All must be onsite because we want full control over the event. I have already borrowed a second PS3 for the watchrace screen. I have another video camera due to be delivered this week. I'm not setup for running 3 PS3's + the watchrace computer stream on one internet connection.

So take these things into consideration. The worst I could do with my full time job, my wife, life and real racing projects is take on more than I can handle and make a crappy event. We need a SOLID event first and we'll improve next year. Besides, I have the Marketing/Web/Communications to handle as well.

Hoping all you great supporters have more info now on how things will go down. Cheers!!

Thanks for that response Kurt, very nice of you to keep us more informed.

Had a question regarding the 2.02 update and its tire wear changes.

Looks like racing softs are neutralized option for this series now that they'll hardly last 2 laps around the North Loop so what were you planning on doing now?

It's true, they wear out faster than my ex wife wears out a welcome...

Its nasty because I am trying to train drivers, and practice myself, and this happens. Glad it didn't happen feb 24th tho!

Very nice....added realism I think....maybe a bit harsh though??anyway...

Yeah so as usual, run the tires you like!! Bound to be very interesting!!

All-

We are working very hard to plan for everything. We have daily meetings to solidify the organisational structure. As I've mentioned before, we are prooving the concept in 2012 and will make it better for 2013.

One thing we hold dear is the visibility of the teams/drivers. They are the stars of the race and fans will be able to root for their favorites.

Wurks.ca has asked all teams to submit an update of their progress. Hopefully we'll get the info back soon and post the info in a blog we are currently setting up. You'll be able to RSS Feed it soon. Everytime there is an update, I'll notify here for sure so everyone is in the loop. Hopefully GTPlanet will post updates in their great blog as well!!

Cheers.

Hi everyone!

I'm part of the organising committee with Kurt. We greatly appreciate all the interest going around the event we want to build with all your help. We do apology for all the GT fans that won't be able to attend the event because we are limiting it to 15 teams. I think that Kurt explains many time already our reasons. We do want to keep the event in a reasonable and controlled form with the available resources and knowledge we have of such event.

I do understand that few are questioning the fact that we limit ourselves to 15 (unqualified) teams. This first edition will be a great occasion for us to understand what it is required (time, structure, hardware, software, manpower) to hold such an event. All your suggestions will be taking into account for next year planning. But as it is right now, we need the ball rolling.

We've decided to organise a small event in order to be able to stay in control of the quality and focus on it to deliver a great experience to all participants.

We would rather like 15 teams with a great race than 30+ teams disappointed.

We do understand that the level might be uneven since there aren’t qualification rounds, but again, for this year we do hope it won't be dramatic. Qualification rounds would be like organising a second event itself.

Keep in mind that it is a 24hrs race. It is not necessarily the fastest driver that is going to win.

Last but not least, we've limited the exposure on a GT fan forum, so I think that we still have good chances of having good GT players in the race!!!!

Thanks for showing your interest and we are really excited!!!

Just 3 months left.
