You obviously know the track well enough now to complete this mission. All you have to do now is work on your exit speed. TRUST ME, this is the only thing you have to work on now. The other very minor flaws you are making on the track will soon disappear with a little more practice. Assuming you probably have a life, I give you another week and you'll have this mission in the bag 👍

Thanks. I haven't worked on it for a few days, but I'm giving it another go after I finish the 4h Mazda Miata Enduro in about 15 minutes :)

I know that the run where I had 14.2 off, if I had done it perfectly (to my extent of knowing the track) I possibly could have shaved off up to 5 seconds because I wobbled a bit and took a ride in the grass momentarily :)

I tried it a few times and could not get it. But I did manage to add 2 more mission passes to my belt, so I'm happy for now. Will keep trying on 11, gotta get it sooner or later.................

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did it, I did it, I did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took everyone's advise not to try to take the turns too fast, took my time around the corners, drove clean, and beat him by over 3 seconds!!!!

Thank you everyone for the great tips!

Thankyou to Famine and all the others who contributed, only about 15 more missions to go :)

just wait till you get to the last one... nurburgring nordschleife. it's a nightmare. anyone got any tips?... the only mission i've got left to do.

Finally passed mission 11!! That video and the tips sure helped. Took me only 3 tries after reading this thread. I was consistenly running in the +8 range. My 3 tries to victory were +5, +.046 (that sucked), and then -.943 👍

You've got 39 Gold licenses are you are asking US for tips? The other 33 missions are just practice for this one really, and I'm in the same boat as you (still to do 34), but I'm getting closer... I practice in a similar Merc (the 608BHP convertible - about 160,000 Cr. - much cheaper to buy than the SLR McLaren) and practice in Free Run mode.... this seems to really help, even if it's not exactly the same car... but you get the feel of how a car of similar power and weight handles around the circuit... and you don't have to wait 2 mins every time you want to have a try at optimising your line... I'm down to 12 secs off the winning time... that's only a second per sector to improve, and I'm well slow thru the twisty bits after the Karussel...

Just a quick ' Thank you' to all who have hepled with hints and tips, so I could finally pass this mission...same style driving/breaking also helped a lot in the cote d'azur mission! Thanks again guys! 👍

yes, this is a good thread, that mission is HARD, took me ages. using the ds2 i couldnt do it, i now have my dfp and managed to win by nearly 4 seconds. I found that 'pumping' the breaks rather than fully pressing it down will make the car slow down MUCH faster and the wheels wont lock either ;)

Actually the wheels never lock up in this game; in this like all previous iterations of Gran Turismo you cannot lock the brakes. In GT4 it just sounds like it because of the louder screeching noises as the tires talk back to you.

Congrats to you guys up there who finally it --> 👍

One more tip I mentioned elsewhere that I think seriously needs to be reiterated: If you run the 3 laps and then do a replay, you can jump to the in-car view of the front-runner! Just keep toying with he replay controls and cycle through the views. You can get a view complete with gauges and all, just as if you were running the lap.

Use that. I did. It was eye-opening.

I always thought the brakes can lock up if you jam them on too hard in any GT (in a lot of cars).

Tyres can squeal and screech - the first is telling you "you're pushing it" and the second is telling you "you've lost it".

For some of the missions and licenses, I was able to brake faster and later by using less than full braking power - too much was causing the tyres to screech and meant that I wasn't slowing down as fast as was possible when keeping full grip.

good tip, i'll get some practice laps in. the 2 minute wait is very painful. any ideas what time the lead car completes the lap in?

Thanks to a lot of the help on this board, I am now a little over 7 seconds away from completing Mission 34 (I can't believe I'm even using the word completing in the same sentence as Mission 34). I am good after the third split time and then I start losing time on the down hill curves. I'm not even sure what I'm doing wrong. I'll have to take another look at Dori-San's video.

BTW, one thing that helped me shave a few more seconds off my time was getting off the couch and sitting close to the TV. I never had to do that before with GT3. I have had to do that three times now for the driving Missions. Of course my daughter took the opportunity to tell me I am sitting too close to the TV. I probably should have sent her to her room for talking back to me.

If you don't use manual, either learn to or "hold" the gears for longer by holding shift up while in auto - this can make a big difference in straights

Driving manual HELPS A LOT!!
For example, on the one with the 3 lap race w/the 2000GT, I used manual so I could shift to 1st to get more power out of the turns... :)
Now tell me is this normal......
I went to mission 34 and I beat it...On my first try...Beginners luck or what?
I did it like before I even got started on the Sunday Cup(which was a LONG time ago :dopey: ) I just did it for fun...and I won!! I did'nt even know the track(which was Nurburgring....I tried the other races thinking they would be easy...but they seem a lot harder...right now I just need missions 22-28 and 32...
I don't know... was beating mission 34 first try normal...
I think I'm infected the Granturitis, a sickness of GT4 lol :dopey: :dopey:

Thanks to all the help in this thread, I now have my Zonda :).
Took 3 tries with the Famine method (always in 5th). Got a great tap at the start of lap 3 and nailed the yellow car on the entry to the last corner.

Cheers to Daan as well for making the vid.

any 1 want to come to my house and do M34 for me. Im about to go nuts on my PS2 . Im going to stomp on it if I cant get it.

Just done it! What a mother flumper of a mission! Couldn't watch the video cos it's a dratted wmv and i've got a mac.

Basically you have to use the little bar stewards, drop to about 160mph (no less) after the bends and let one overtake then another ram you from behind (use the mirror and rear view!) You speed up to about 175mph then slip around him and get in front so his speed picks up through the next bend.

Took the little yellow kunt on the last bend, didn't even need to draft him and won by 2 seconds. There I was thinking this mission was impossible.

Sorry, but that is absolutely impossible. If you don´t know the track you end up two minutes behind the leading car. Especially with the stupid SLR. And even if you know the track well, you need at least 20 tries to beat the mission.

Watch that language, Steve (last paragraph)...

I did this mission by shifting up to 6th gear as soon as I could (as soon as I got a draft from the 5th placed car), and staying there. I didn't lift from the throttle for the entire race, and just stayed in 6th gear. I drove the same line as the computer cars, and moved aside to let them past when they started drafting. My top speed was 179 mph (in a huge draft after the whole field passed me), and my lowest speed after getting 6th gear was 164 mph (but only very briefly, mostly it was 165 mph).

I won by 2.215 seconds. I doubt this is the best strategy, as I only drove the mission about half a dozen times.

I have played in state championship games in high school, worked in an automotive battery plant handling pure hydrochloric acid, served in the US Army during Desert Storm, YET I always lost my nerve/cool when I got anywhere near beating Mission 34!! :) BUT, as of 6:25 tonight I can die happy!!! Completed 34 finally! BTW I use a DS2 and auto so it's possible and probably one of the reasons it took so long.

Congratulations. I also used automatic and the DS2. Just for a statistic, did you use L2 and R2 while shifting though? I did, and you probably would have came about one second closer each lap time if you used that instead of letting automatic switch when it normally does.

The next time you post on this thread, or any, for that matter, try to come up with a lie that is a little bit more credible. Beginners luck can help you getting some Gold in the B-license on the first try but this thing.

Mission 34 is really the only one I have left and unfortunately, I cannot spend 5-6 hours straight on it, otherwise, that's what I would have done.

I was 1m09s after my first try where I only wanted to get familiar with the track.

I was 0m47s after my second try.

A few more ones (including a few where I pushed a little bit too hard and had to restart and I was below 0m30s behind but still nowhere near any of the 5 cars that started ahead.

It probably took me an additional 20 tries to get below 20secs and an additional 20 to get around 10secs.

At that point, I really got concerned about the rate at which I could improve my lap times but I have uncovered a few tricks that others here already pointed out; breaking a fraction earlier really helps on the exits.

Today, after countless tries, I am still 5secs behind but I know I will make it. In fact, I stopped all progress elsewhere in the game until I completed this.

I do not like the car, I do not like the track, I do not like the wait time but I believe it is the biggest challenge in this game and the biggest I have encountered in the entire GT series (as measured by the # of tries needed to succeed).

I do not really care about the R89 because I already got the Minolta which suits me fine.

I think it would have been a good idea for GT people to have us start in theslowest car with the objective being to try to preserve the lead over faster cars. That way, we would be getting rid of the wait time and it would be a different challenge.
