And yet - It has now been completed....

34 Missions done and 80 Golds...

Onwards to racing !....

Finally passed this mission.
It is not about you driving well, it is about the AI driving well and drafting each other so they can catch you and then pull you along. I had to limit my speed in the turns to 265 kmh for them to catch me in the straights. I got very close on two previous attempts of losing by 0.006 and 0.005 seconds.
I passed by 1.8 seconds on my good run. I was -3 seconds on the lead car on the 2nd last turn and got a good draft and a bump from behind at the end of the straight. My speed was 382 kmh so I decided to drop to the bottom line and chase the leader 2 turns out.
My speed dropped to 272 kmh at the end of the turn. I crossed the timer mark down 1.5 seconds from the lead. I kept the throttle buried and could see the gap closing. I caught the leader's draft before the final turn and speed past him at about 285 kmh and then races for the win.
Why did it take so many tries for the AI to stop running 3 abreast when behind me and not drafting?
What stopped the AI from bashing into the side of my car and spinning me into the guard rail when they did draft and catch up?
I do not think my driving changed that much from 1st attempt to finally passing.

i finished the last driving mission today. all of them were easy except the last one. i just couldn't get a good feel for how to brake/steer with the merc. and i know i was stuck in ruts on a few of the turns. took me about 15 tries to get it. that 123 second head start is quite annoying :P

i found that unless you were on a long straight away and you were coming up to a really slow turn, light braking is key. the car loves to turn with about 10% braking. its wierd to brake so lightly at first, but you slowly get the hang of it

So there I am... Playing Mission 34 for the umpteenth time. I pass the 4th place car going into the 2nd carousel and I am thinkin', "okay... need to pass the 190E and then close on the last two". I head onto the long stretch to see the 190 wayyyy ahead. :grumpy:

Long story short, I was still 8 secs behind the 1st place car when I crossed the finish line!

I know I have to practise more but DAMN! I thought I was going to post that I was done with this thing! :(

Now I have to go find 9 more seconds! :banghead:

BTW, I am 1:50.xxx down at the first time marker. 1:42~41.xxx @ 2nd, 1:34.xxx @ 3rd, 1:09.xxx @ 4th, 58.xxx @ 5th (this is the one before the carousel). After that, I am not sure because I see the 5th place car and start hunting.

How are these times? Am I slow up to the 5th time spot? :indiff:

You can find some split times earlier in this thread. At the 5th split you should be a little quicker, at most 56 seconds I would think.

Finally pass this mission after 20 tries....watch the video, it can't be more clear to understand and drive your GTR like it. So watch and win, My time 7:03:02...
it works....

Can someone share there view on this ones?
i have completed all the driving missions fair(so no cutting of on the Nurburgring ect.) but i can't get this missions done.
Please video's or very detailed explainings, cause its kicking moi ass.

A word for word "Cut and Paste" from www.deralta.net

Mission Eleven: 6'47.472
Mazda 110S (second place): 6'48.131

The Key to this one is Early and light braking. Any late breaking, and you pay in spades due to the lack of power. This one took me about an hour to pass.

If you can't maintain the momentum, you can't catch the car ahead of you. I managed to catch the 5th place car at the end of the first lap, and at the same corner on the last lap, I snuck up on the First place car. Took me some time to get there, and it was just barely a win.

Time Check points.

Mission Twelve: (target time <4'09.8xx)
Ford GT Race car
Results: Final Time: 4'09.179

What a rough one this was. I really had to be at the top of my game to get it.

Here's the lay down of turns, corners and times that I hit to pass this one.

Lap #1
Passed the Viper approaching the corkscrew, passed the Saleen at the last hairpin on lap one. Snuck by him on the inside. I caught up to the Camaro at the Second time point on lap two and slipped easily by him. After that, it was a smooth trip through the Corkscrew and I came up on the Vette at the Final Hairpin I wasn't able to catch him there, but I drafted him up to the First Hairpin on lap 3. Twas a bit bumpy, but I slipped him on the inside. Then began the chase to catch the Oreca. Tighter and tighter it got up to the last hairpin. On the previous run, I actually bumped him trying to apss right there and I got the 5 second penalty. This run, however, I slipped on his inside, hit the brakes late and shut the door on his attempt to pass me back. I then roared down the track to win.

10,000 cr more and a better day.

These are the Time point checks that I hit, in order to win. I'd suggest dashing them down and see how you're doing against them as you work on passing this one.

Mission Thirteen:
Final time: 4'36.208
Ford Focus (second place): 4'37.955 (-1.747)

Drive this one like it's a rally. You'll gain more time, sliding the corners. The road is slippery and you need to get teh back end around the corner to counteract the understeer.

Passing places:
Xsara Rally Car: Second long straight, just before the first chicane.
5th place (car?): The first 90degree left in the tight 90's at the end of the lap
Toyota Corolla: Start/Finish line, beginning of second lap.
Ford Escort Rally: Hairpin mid second lap (snuck and bumped inside)
Ford Focus Rally: The first 90degree left in the tight 90's at the end of the lap

Spot time Checks:

Lap One: - 9.879 (27 seconds +/-)
- 8.761 (1' 00" +/-)

Lap Two: - 6.739 (1'38 +/-)
- 5.879 (2' 11" +/-)

Lap Three: - 2.596 (3' 07 +/-)

- 1.222 (3' 58" +/-)

Mission Fourteen:
Plymouth SuperBird @ Seattle
Final time: 6'00.664
Buick Special (Second place): 6'03.872

The very key to this one was taking my time. It took some time to figure out I had to brake early at 85% power, go easy on the throttle control, and only minor changes to the steering input. The Buick Special has gobs of power on the straight, but can't take a corner at any speed. Learning how to get your Plymouth to turn is where you'll gain time. By the jumps on the second lap, I had passed everyone and was creeping up on the Buick.

Take the Hairpin before the front stretch in second gear. You'll carry more speed across the back straight.

Passing places:
Barrcauda: Top of the Jumps hill, first corner
GTO: 45 degree sweepers.
Mercury Cougar: Braking after the long stretch (He veers left at the 90 degree right)
Dodge Charger: Hairpin, beginning of second lap.
Buick Special: Hairpin, beginning of Third lap

Spot time checks:
Lap one:
-6.181 (49 seconds +/-)
-5.361 (1' 40" +/-)

Lap Two: - 5.455 (2' 07" +/-)
- 3.105 (2' 45" +/-)
- 2.138 (3' 40" +/-)

Start Lap Three: - 1.260 (4' 03" +/-)
+ 1.267 (4' 42" +/-)

Mission Fifteen:
Lancia Stratos @ Cote.
Final time: 6'24.843
Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA 1600 '65 (Second place): 6'25.363 (+0.520)

This one was quite easy. Managing the car's balance is key. I was due to pass this one on my second try, but clipped the last corner and was given a 5 second penalty. In the next 3 tries, I got squirrely and hit a few more 5 second penalties. In my final run, I did get a 5 second penalty, but was still able to out drag the second place car in the last stretch. Won it by 0.520 seconds. I'd go back and do a write-up, but it was really easy. If anyone wants, I'll check do it up, as I have saved the replay. You should pass two cars each lap.
---------------------------------------------------

AO

Hardest one of these few missions was probably the Superbird at Seattle. Took me a few tries to figure out the braking points and how to combat the excessive body roll. The main thing in that test is to brake early and smoothly exit corners to maximise speed and lessen body roll.

My writeup

----------
Mission 11
----------

(3/14) You need to catch 5 AI cars, with the lead car about 28 seconds ahead,
within 3 laps in New York (Reverse). You are given a rather old and slow
Toyota 2000GT '67. The key to handling the car is not to slow down too much
while cornering.

Drift through the Columbus Circle at about 45mph and exit with a speed of at
least 60mph. If you can't reach the first checkpoint within 27 seconds from the
lead car, restart. In the series of 90-degree turns, think about curves, arcs
and semi-circles and make use of the full width of the track. You should catch
the 5th car right after the last left before approaching Times Square for the
first time.

I caught up with the lead car in the last hairpin before the finish line. From
the replay, you will see that the lead car coughs it up during that turn every
time. It skids sideways a couple of times before regaining its traction. Just
don't bump its back while you make the hairpin.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, before second checkpoint
4th: second lap, before first checkpoint
3rd: second lap, after second checkpoint
2nd: second lap, at hairpin before finish line
1st: third lap, at hairpin before finish line

2nd lap: +15.484 +11.723 +7.393

Mission 12
----------

(3/14) Same deal. Catch 5 AI cars within 3 laps in Laguna Seca. This time the
lead car's advantage is about 19 seconds. Your car is much faster this time
and handles relatively well. But if you are thrown off to the sand and grass,
no chance.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, after Hmmmm bridge
4th: first lap, after last tight left before finish line
3rd: second lap, about checkpoint 3 (should have passed it before corkscrew)
2nd: third lap, during hairpin after starting grid
1st: third lap, right before finish line

It would be best if you could pass the first checkpoint within 18 seconds of
the lead car. You may need to brake-gas-brake-gas to get through the first
hairpin after the start. Slow it down to 1st gear for the corkscrew. If you
hit the grass, restart.

Passing the lead car worth mentioning. I got stuck behind the 3rd AI car before
the corkscrew in the second lap, and didn't pass it until the sweeping left
that followed. So I lost some time there. By the time I caught up with the lead
car in the third lap, I was still making the second to last right turn when
the lead car is appraoching the last tight left. Same thing with New York, the
lead car sucks at making the last turn so I am able to hit the gas about the
same time as it regains traction and start to accelerate. From there I simply
out-accelerate it towards the finish line and beat it by 0.058 seconds. Lucky.

Mission 13
----------

(3/16) Rally car chase in the tight Opera Paris course. There is not much room
for error. Hold back from hitting the AI cars even though you really hate them.
Stay away from the walls.

If you execute the beginning stretch perfectly, you could have passed the 5th
car before entering the first chicane. It's hard to do but possible. In my
run, I stick to its bumper entering the chicane. He will swing wide once
inside the chicane so I took his inside and head for the exit.

Up next is the approach to the Opera House. Brake late and treat the right-
left combo one single turn. You should be able to brake once into the inner
apex and accelerate out of the corner. In the hairpin, stay as close to the
curb as possible because that will gain you the best exit speed to the
straight that followed. You need that good exit speed to not lose too much
ground to the AI cars. Don't floor it too soon because otherwise you will hit
the left wall. Your car tends to skid in the bend between the 2 straights so
be careful.

The sharp right at the end of the straight is the best place for overtaking
because all AI cars brake too early in that turn. Be careful not to ram their
side though. This is also pretty much your last chance to pass the lead car
in the final lap.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, inside first chicane
4th: first lap, sharp right after long straight
3rd: second lap, right after starting grid, by braking later than him
2nd: second lap, right hander, after Opera House, before straight.
1st: last lap, sharp right after long straight

Checkpoint Times:
1st lap: +10.127 +8.648 +6.289
2nd lap: +5.612 +4.460 +2.594
3rd lap: +1.616 +0.945 -2.044

----------
Mission 14
----------

(3/16) The test car is kind of weird, maybe because I have never used such an
old "muscle" car before. The engine sound is very soft. The brakes on this car
sucks (or maybe it's something else I don't know about), so brake VERY early.

One thing about the 5-second penalty - it doens't seem to matter who is at
fault. If you take the AI car's line, and he is stupid enough to ignore where
you are and still ram into you to reclaim his line, you are penalized for
5 seconds. It's so stupid. Twice in the final turn in the last lap where I
already had the lead car in check. Took its inside entering the sharp right
under the bridge. TWICE, it rams my back like I don't exist and I was given
the 5-second while I can almost smell the finish. I just hope my car is more
powerful so I can push him into the pit stop...

Back to the track, brake early in the straight. Let the car slide in a
semi-circle in the hairpin. Floor it at the mid-point. Stay to the far left
while climbing uphill so you can overtake the 5th car in the second jump.

The AI cars have better top speed than you so you are kind of helpless
in the back straight. The next right-right combo is interesting and should be
taken as a whole. Brake hard at the end of the straight and let the car
slide in a semi circle and only pick up the gas when you feel your slide is
ending.

The sharp right under the bridge is a good place for overtaking but as I have
said before, don't ram the AI car, and don't let the AI car ram you. Be
careful at the left-right chicane before the front straight. Stay with
traction at all time. You should have passed every single car except the lead
car by the end of the first lap.

After overtaking the lead car, there is some rear mirror checking and blocking
to be done because don't forget, your opponent can out-accelerate you in the
straight leading to the finish line.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, 2nd jump in the uphill climb
4th: first lap, before sharp left leading to back straight
3rd: first lap, right-right combo after back straight
2nd: first lap, before finish line (coz it lost traction)
1st: final lap, sharp right under the bridge before pit stop

Checkpoint Times:
1st lap: +5.763 +5.630 +4.830
2nd lap: +3.359 +3.034 +2.914
3rd lap: +1.348 +0.580 -0.218

My time: 6:04.070
AI time: 6:04:288

----------
Mission 15
----------

(3/17) This mission seems to be easier than the previous ones. All your AI
opponents have inferior power. You can easily out-accelerate them in any
reasonable straight. So passing them is not a conern. All you need to do is
to make 3 clean laps and hit a certain time, because the lead car always
finishes at the same time.

The track is Cote d'Azur. It's a beautiful track based on the real formula 1
Monte Carlo track. Your car skids pretty easily and it has a tendency to get
sucked into the barrier somehow. So stay a bit further away from the barrier.
I can't really manage power sliding well so I usually slow the car down in
a straight line and then accelerate out of the corner to minimize the
skidding.

I find the downshift hint usually flashes too late, especially after the
tunnel approaching the tight chicane.

I was still down by 2 lengths after the final right hander but out-accelerate
the lead car in the final stretch to beat him by 0.497 seconds.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, beginning of the tunnel
4th: second lap, beginning of the uphill straight
3rd: second lap, after the chicane after tunnel
2nd: third lap, uphill straight
1st: third lap, right before finish line

Checkpoint Times:
1st lap: +39.118 +31.668 +28.508
2nd lap: +23.678 +16.235 +13.306
3rd lap: +8.700 +2.374 -0.497

My time: 6:25.041

Mission 34 complete, and its still before midnight. I was over a second behind the posted split times going into the long straight at the end. I passed the second place car well after the bridge. I made up a ton of time in the last two corners.

Right when I started playing tonight I knew tonight was the night. I have been playing that mission on and off for about three weeks. But every time I tried it tonight I was within two and threee seconds from first place.

Thanks for all the help. I can get on with my life now.

Is there anything else in the game (in the world I should say) this tough. Or can I go back to sitting on the couch when I drive instead of one foot away from the TV.

I just watched my replay. My Tiergarten split time was 7.108. 2 full seconds behind the other posted splits. I made it all up at the end. I drove the last two turns like a rally car by coming in hot, spinning my rear end out (since I was on the grass) toward the wall and accelearting to keep from hitting it and then spinning my rear end out toward the other wall and accelerating to keep from hitting that. It all happened so fast I doubt I could do it again. Then I came around the final turn wide and passed the first place car on the outside.

I think there is a certain amount of irony to the fact that I cursed the handling of this car for so long and in the end the fact that I could spin it around is what saved me.

yup..the last driving mission is the most difficult of all...the only way to beat it is to practice..or u can take the super license test..that has course..and learn it from there

I have an Xport but I never saved the race :ouch: :dunce:

I can roughly remember my split times though, which are in blue
+ 1'49.873 -Same! - Flugplatz
+ 1'40.794 -+1'40.5ish - Arembergkurve, just after entering into Fuchsrohre
+ 1'32.915 -+1'32.3ish - Adenauer Forst

+ 1'06.704 -+1'05.2ish - Bergwerk / Kesselschen
+ 0'55.198 -+54.1ish - Klostertal
+ 0'40.745 -+39.3ish - Hohe Acht
+ 0'31.277 -+30.1ish - Eiskurve
+ 0'25.307 -+24.2ish - Sprunghugel
+ 0'13.339 -+12.3ish - Dottinger Hohe
+ 0'04.909 -+???? Tiergarten I was about to pass the lead car so I didn't pay attention to the split time.

I passed the SL65 AMG, on the straightaway between, Klostertal and the Karussell.
I passed the SL500 on the straight away in Brunnchen. He held me up some, I really could have passed him the turn before but he cut me off big time and I had to slam on the brakes to avoid him!
I passed the 190E just after Schwalbenschwanz, this gave me a clear run to power the heck through Galenkopf uninpeeded.
I passed the SLK 230 close to Anotniusbuche.
I passed the 300SL around Tiergarten split time.

I think I had about 3.5 seconds up on the 300SL at the finish line.
I was using the DFP with the sequential shifter. I have the PStwo turned on right now while i'm watching the Daytona ARCA race. I'm gonna give this mission a run with the DS2  I don't think i'll be able to beat it with the ds2.

I keep pace until Breidscheid. My Breidscheid split time is 3 seconds off... anyone have any pointers as to what exactly I'm doing wrong? :(

Okay, I got my Breidschheid split down to 1:19, but my Bergwerk split is at best, 1:08. Klostertal time at best is 57, normally 58/59.

By Hohe Acht I'm off by 3 seconds (42 instead of 39) and well, it goes downhill from there. The best I can do is 6.7 seconds behind :(

I don't believe I've done this once already but now have to cut another 8 seconds off my time :grumpy:

I'm still on my way there. I'm on Mission 29 right now. I find most of the One Lap Magic courses to be significantly easier than the 3 lap battles...either that or I'm getting better at the game, I don't know. The slipstream battles were, in my opinion, a joke compared to the other missions, even compared to the the I-B missions 1-10. Anyway, I'm sure the Nurburgring is gonna tear me a new ******* when I get there.

Well all I've succeeded in doing is creating two fresh calluses on my thumbs and two blisters on the inside of the middle knuckles of my middle finger (it's the part of my finger that rubs up against the bottom of the controller where there's holes for the screws.

I'm still more than six seconds behind :(

I do it once and now they make it harder. **** Polyphony Digital! :grumpy:

I have finished all the Missions except 34(no kidding) and the 3 lap battle at Le Sarthe. Does anybody have video of the Le Sarthe mission or split times. I can get about 12 secs behind the Sauber. My first split, I am 30 seconds behind and can't do better than that. BTW, got the 4 "black" cars last night!!

Le Sarthe was one of the easiest, I caught and passed the lead car by the end of Lap 2.

Do you have any details? Is my first split close(30 sec) to yours?

I never look at split times, breaks my concertration. However I can't stress to you enough to go pratcice the track and learn your breaking points for cars around the same speed as the car in the mission. I did alot of the 24 Hour race there and I found the mission easy because I knew the breaking points spot on.

Cutting through the track is cheating, but hey man, it works 👍
Or if you don't want to do that, improve your timing on braking (especially important before and after the long straights) and use the whole road while you are steering the car.

If I didn't have to wait more than two minutes each time I wanted to have a go, I would have no problem with doing a clean lap without wall-riding and lawnmowing. Until then, I have no problem with trying to 'cheat' my way to first place (again) by riding Karrussel and mowing the lawn at Hatzenbach.
