I used the grass more than that:

1. Hatzenbach (although I think its closer to Hocheinchen)
2. Adenauer Forst.
3. I passed the 4th place car on the right by using the grass just around the tight corner at Pflanzgarten. I wasn't about to risk touching him for a five second penalty.
4. I passed the 2nd place car on the left on the grass (for the same reason) between Tiergarten and Hohenrain.
5. And, although I don't think there was any advantage to it, I took the last turn wide at Ziel and ended up on the grass as I passed the 190sl for the one thousandth and final time and I drove this mission.

And I don't feel bad about any of it.

In case you haven't seen it, here is an awesome map so you can see the locations.

Le Sarthe was one of the easiest, I caught and passed the lead car by the end of Lap 2.

I'm having a little bit of a tough time with this one...I know it's possible but I was wondering if there are any tips you could post to help me out so I don't have to try like 10 more time before I get it. I'm finishing about 2 seconds behind the lead car at the end.

I've just made a video of part of my Mission 18 run. I did a complete 360 spin on lap 2 and yet still won by 9 seconds.

Holy crap! Mission 34's like a mofo! This morning b4 work I did 31, 32, and 33...I didn't find those to be very difficult, some of the easiest one's actually. Now I've got to learn that beast Nurburgring. I'm absolutely terrible w/ this track, of course I had never before this morning raced a whole lap around it, only my B-Spec has (24 hour endo). After 3 tries, the closest I have is a whole minute behind! This is gonna take some work.

hehe ... to do Mission 34 you'll need to:

a) learn each and every single corner of the track;
b) learn how to drive the SLR;

My advice (well, what I did do to pass that mission): buy one SLR Mclaren (about Cr. 600.000) and take it completely stock to A-Apec the 4 hours Nurb race. It should be an easy race (even boring at times), because the competition isn't as powerful as the Merc, but you'll have plenty of time (and laps) to learn both the track and the car.

You don't even have to drive the entire race. Whenever you feel you're ready to go back to the Mission (you aren't if you can't consistently lap at about 7:20), just pit, put the race to B-Spec and get the money and the prize car in the end.

You'll get Cr. 200.000 for the victory and a car (the '67 Chaparral) that you can sell for about Cr. 250.000, so you won't lose much money (considering you'll have a new SLR in your garage and available in Arcade Mode)

If you don't want to do this, there's no advice I can give you about the track, until you know it well. About the car, all I can tell is that it understeers a lot both while braking and accelerating. So, brake early, then turn, and don't accelerate too early.

Thanks for the advice. I was planning on buying the car and just going run practice laps, but your idea is better since I can take out another race and win some money in the meantime. 👍

grrr....I've also stuck on mission 34 for about 2 weeks now (finished all the rest)...

For the last 2 weeks I've just been using a stock SLR in practice mode just running laps every night and trying to beat my ghost (with the TCS and ASM properly set)...What gets me is I can get down to a consistent 7:12-7:14 in practice mode (cutting lots of grass), but no matter what I do or how hard I try, the best I can get in the actual mission is 9:24, i.e., 7:21 in real time (best finish is 3rd)...Part of the problem is I guess I tense up a bit, and I have to take some bad lines to pass the cars, but I have no idea how I'm losing 10+ seconds going from practice mode to the actual mission...Hopefully, the feeling I'll get once I finally pass it will be well worth the trouble. But for now, I am hating life and whoever designed this mission.

Since I'm already in rant mode, here are a few more gripes that run through my mind during practice:

1. the wait for the time delay is very maddening---It probably would have been better just to have the cars start at different points of the track.

2. It would also be nice if i could tweak the settings (ONE single change alone; steeper gearing, would make all the difference)

3. Needless to say, I've grown to hate the SLR as a car with every fiber of my existence...It's overweight, ponderous, has poor weight distribution and transfer, and has an alarming lack of low-end power and acceleration for a supercharged engine putting out 616hp.

well, if i ever find a way past it, I'll tell you all how i did it.

Anyone who has passed it has been where you are. Over time you will be suprised at how well you can drive that huvercraft they call a car. There is a lot of advice on the boards, so I won't repeat it. Other than, if you haven't watched Dorisan's video, you definetly should. I am just writing this as some words of encouragement.

As for your hoping that the feeling you get when you pass it is worth it. It most definetly is. I was literally jumping up and down after I passed it.

I thought I was driving a Bismarck in the Ocean. Anyways, I still haven't pass the M34. This is the first time I could'nt gold/past a event in GT series.

Change the tyres of "your" SLR. I remember that I felt immediatly that the "Mission SLR" behaved worse than the one I bought, and the only way I could make them "feel" the same was to buy and fit "my SLR with Sports/Hard tyres (when we buy it, the tyres fitted are Sports/Medium).

Good luck!

I'm still trying to find the settings to make my practice car act as out-of-control as the Mission car. I've equipped the Sports/Hard tires and turned ASM and TCS all the way off. The Mission car's back-end still washes out much much much more easily than my practice car.

i'm having trouble with M15 also, i saw this off of another thread, hope this helps.
Mission 15
----------

(3/17) This mission seems to be easier than the previous ones. All your AI
opponents have inferior power. You can easily out-accelerate them in any
reasonable straight. So passing them is not a conern. All you need to do is
to make 3 clean laps and hit a certain time, because the lead car always
finishes at the same time.

The track is Cote d'Azur. It's a beautiful track based on the real formula 1
Monte Carlo track. Your car skids pretty easily and it has a tendency to get
sucked into the barrier somehow. So stay a bit further away from the barrier.
I can't really manage power sliding well so I usually slow the car down in
a straight line and then accelerate out of the corner to minimize the
skidding.

I find the downshift hint usually flashes too late, especially after the
tunnel approaching the tight chicane.

I was still down by 2 lengths after the final right hander but out-accelerate
the lead car in the final stretch to beat him by 0.497 seconds.

Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, beginning of the tunnel
4th: second lap, beginning of the uphill straight
3rd: second lap, after the chicane after tunnel
2nd: third lap, uphill straight
1st: third lap, right before finish line

Checkpoint Times:
1st lap: +39.118 +31.668 +28.508
2nd lap: +23.678 +16.235 +13.306
3rd lap: +8.700 +2.374 -0.497

My time: 6:25.041
AI time: 6:25.538

thanks...I was just about to write in and say that there is something funny with my practice and mission SLRs....My best finish in the mission was about 9:18 (7:15 in real time), but in my practice sessions, I had gotten to the point where I was running a consistent 7:09 every day all day.--I was getting ticked off because of how much more twitchy and unpredictable the mission SLR was, especially at high speeds...

anyways, just to update:

I have officially cursed my maker (several times)...This weekend marks the THIRD FULL WEEK that I have been working on this mission...No other races run...no other PS2 games played for 20 straight evenings and nights...M34 has been my own personal obsession and curse.

I guess I'm a little more PO'd than normal because I had made a lot of progress this week, and finally expected to finish it this weekend, but I think I've hit a wall because I'm not getting any better than 9:19-9:21. And even though I've been at it for 3 weeks, sometimes the SLR still has a mind of its own and does what it wants sometimes. I'm on a dialup, so I can't d/l the videos, but I will if i can use a friend's work computer sometime this week...

I can obviously run the lap in the alotted time...my primary problem now is passing those blocking CPU drone cars without getting the pen (for the record, that 5 sec pen is THE most random, arbitrary and inconsistent 'punishment' I've ever seen put in a video game, and I've been playing them longer than most of the posters here have been alive). I seem to be losing most of my time behind the drone cars trying to find a chance to pass, and they still seem to veer into my line EVERY single time! (it's gotten to the point where I cut over the grass to pass, just to avoid any chance of touching)...

I just wish they made this one a simple time trial; or if it was just me against that '54 car.

Here's hoping I get my breakthrough while I still care.

not really im finding em easy cept for the bloody nurburg ring one with the mercs thats frikking hard as a D ***.

I remember the days when I had to spend hours on these damn missions. But I finally beat them after hours of practice, around the 30% mark.

Now 100% and all golds later, I decided to go back and give good old M34 a run. I figured I'd fail, but I just wanted to see how well I could still do it. First time I tried, I failed by a little under 5 seconds (with a 5 second penalty and a second significant screw up).

So I did it again. And beat it. And I spun out

I spun out near the end of the straight... and still won. I thought that was pretty funny, just thought Id share. (and yes, I have the 123 second wait... with the spin my time was at 9'12.73* with a +.17* win margin)

I was pleasantly reminded of the 50,000 cr bonus. Theres another body refresher for my Astra Tourer which I'm currently using to repeat DTM for the last 16,000,000 I need to complete my car list (remaining JGTC and Japanese LMPs)

PS for all those still struggling, the guides (one of which I wrote) should help a lot, esp the vids. Just practice. The key is to keep the car on the course (unless you are shortcutting ;) . You dont have to drive all out the whole way, just close to it. Braking more and staying on course is certainly faster than not braking enough, right? You'll get there! Keep at it 👍

M15 is really easy. It is one of the few missions where you really can destroy the competition. I beat the leading car by almost 6 seconds in my fifth try. I can upload the video if you want.

I think it's mission 24 or something, but you start about 16 seconds behind the front man, in a nissan skyline on the test course. In 3 laps you have to gain 16 seconds on him.

The closest I've ever been able to get is 1.4 seconds. It takes so long I just can't keep my cool after losing so many times. I try to draft from the other cars, but they're always so far behind me after the two curves.

:grr:

WHAT????????

My best is 9'12.xxx, and I was 10 seconds behind.

Mission 34 is all I have to do in the whole game but i'll have to do mission 34 in under 9 minutes to finish it.

Wow... thats really weird. I've never heard of anyone having to do it that fast. The fastest Ive ever heard the comp finishing was in the 9'12.***'s.

How long is your wait time. I'm pretty sure its shorter for PAL than NTSC. NTSC is 123 seconds. For the most part Ive heard that PAL is easier to do than the US too. Apparently the wait is shorter and the lead car drives slower or something like that, working out to something like an 8 second difference (you have to be 8 secs faster on Japanese and US than on PAL).

There was a thread on this earlier. You should check that out. That is very strange that you'd have to do it in under 9'00 because Ive never seen anyone do it that fast (at least with the 123 second wait).

In my version of the Australian PAL I have to wait 123 seconds!!!

It doesn't really bother me to get the 100%, 99.8% is just fine.. But i would still like to finish the game if I could but having to do mission 34 under 9 minutes is way to hard for me.

I ran it again and the lead car did 9'16.xxx, I did a 9'22.xxx. I think it was just a glitch or something it the time displayed or given, I was onlt 6 seconds behind, the closest I have come yet..

You know, I wouldn't mind Mission 34 so much if PD hadn't made the SLR handle like crap. On the one S license test on the Nurb, I can get gold on the second or third try. But, since the SLR handles so poorly, I often get a penalty trying to go around one of the AI morons. I really hate this mission. It goes way beyond ludicrous.

Finally completed it yesterday.

When I realized that I was going to pass the SL65 before Karrusel, I started to sweat like crazy.

Everything went fine and I crossed the finish line 0,4secs ahead of the SL300.

For me it was an easy 250 tries.

As if I did not have enough, the first thing I am planning to do now is the 4 hours Nurb Enduro.

My 6 first split times were as follows. After that, all I was paying attention to were obstacles in the form of other cars...

0: 2,03
1: 1,49,1
2: 1,40,1
3: 1,33,3
4: 1,19,7
5: 1,06,9
6: 0,56,7
