I've changed my GT4 NTSC for PAL and need to pass all licences again :yuck: I spend a lot of time on Driving park & Citta di Aria trying to drift NSX Type S(~300HP) neutral suspension setup... now I will get on SLR and will try to stable that crazy car on Nurburgring :dopey: With OLR. I think the big problem is powerful engine(it strongly affects brake bias) and non-flat track.

Nice stuff Daan! I like Your style and clean work.

I realise this is the pathetic bleating of a crap driver, but has anyone a video of how to pass mission eight?

I get the impression the passing point is as you pass under the bridge, correct? If so I'm still breathing the oppositions exhaust smoke by the time of the bridge so where am I going wrong?

practice. learn the car. learn the track. once you have mastered the car on the track and worked out your braking points should be able to pass it easy.

I guess my first question is, "Have you passed M1 through M7 and are now stuck on M8"? or "Have you done all the missions but are still stuck on M8"?

If the former it is practice, practice. 8 is not a hard mission. I don't even remember which is it, which tells me I probably passed it on the 1st or 2nd try. I you are stuck on 8 you will have very little chance with 10 through 34.

If it is the latter and you, for some reason just can't get M8, watch the demo and do what it does. Find out where you are losing time and practice that spot in a similar car on the practice track.

If you just want to win it, ram the AI from his left side when entering the tunnel, then stay in front of him so he can't pass (the cheating way).

A clean run will require full throttle and smooth apexes until a brake in front of the tunnel that will allow you to pass the AI on the outside without hitting the wall.

I've got about seven or eight missions to go, and Mission 8 is the earliest of them!

Mental block I guess but after 30 or 40 attempts the fun's fast going out of this one. For those that have done this mission, on what part of the track did you execute the pass?

Yeh, i remember that 1. I took me a good 20 odd tries to do it.
You can accelerate throught the entire part up to the tunnel, then from VERY wide in the tunnel, brake into it, and come out on the RIGHT side of him
(thats the way i did it anyway :) )

i only passed it by a whisker, but still, IT WORKED!!! 👍

If the boss would let me play GT4 at work I may be able to help you. Instead I just have to rely on GTP for enterainment.
I remember mission 10 and passing a 350Z ? going into the tunnel at Trial Mountain.
Is this the one you mean?
Mission 1 to 9 were so easy I can not remember them at all.

M8 is going into the tunnel at Trial Mountain and I think you are in an RX8.

It is hard - I have passed this one a couple of times and always win by <.01. You have to conserve as much momentum as possible - transfer weight to the front wheels to help turn - accelerate out as soon as possible.

Mission is a $#!+ but at least it is quickly repeated.

Sometimes there is good info here although for this one it does not say much. If you are trying with auto gears I suggest trying manual.

A lot of missions and licenses are way easier with manual.

There is a license in IB with an Audi S4 at Deep Forest IB-4.

I tried manual and got frustrated so I decided to go semi auto and concentrate on the right line and brake points. I got to within 0.066 secs with semi-auto and got very frustrated.

Switched back to manual and got it by a mile.

The main trick when using manual is do not change up if you are close to the next corner and there are even cases where changing down where auto does costs time. It all depends on the speed of the gearbox.

I can not remember Mission 8 all that well other than to say I would not have tried too many times. Try to gold the license A-13 as it will help.

I had to do it a few times but here is how.

Use manual gears.

On most turns use 1 gear higher than auto.

Gold license B5 - mini at Tsukuba. or just watch the demo. slower car but most of the tips from B5 can be used.

And as was said by big joe those two turns can be taken faster than you think.

For the right hander under the bridge do not brake and do not lift off the gas (unless you can not make it). For the last turn do not change down a gear if you can help it.

This is a frustrating mission as I think everyone feels it should be easy.
Take the first corner as fast as possible so you get a good run up to the next left hander.
If you get it right you can pass the two WRX's down the short straight. Take the next right almost flat out and the next few corners flat out as well.
You should be able to pass the Next Legacy at the next right hairpin on entry and the last Liberty coming out of the corner. You will catch the 360 exiting the final fast sweeper.

Getting all that to work on one lap is hard. Took me plenty of attempts to finally win and several misses by the smallest of margins in the process.

Good luck.

I've switched to manual and still can't take that Skyline, I've even tried ramming it with my 350Z and he just shrugs it off while the penalty points kill me stone dead. I'm unsure if the winning strategy is about taking a different line, or later and better braking.

Do any of you thousands of successful Mission 8 completees out there remember where you actually overtook the Skyline (under the bridge, approach to the tunnel, entrance to the tunnel, in the tunnel, exit of the tunnel, beyond the tunnel) and was the Skyline on your left or on your right when you overtook it?

Just won by 0.004s so it's clear that you pass just before the finish-line.
Strategy this time: Cut the chickanes to shave off som tenth of seconds, try to avoid any wheel-screeching sound, approach the skyline from behind, brake some 50-100m from the tunnel entrance, aim for the inside curb, but pass the skyline on the outside. Use the full width of the tunnel.

i just did it just then. first try, beat by 0.53s

i took a racing line, got the apex in middle of tunnel and exited to the right. passed the skyline after the tunnel on its right.

Thanks for the tips! The tip about not slowing for the right hander under the bridge was the key. Mission 14 wasn't as hard as I expected. Or, maybe I am finally getting better. :) Anyway the key for me on this Mission (M14) was to use automatic trans. I had a hard time with manual on this car because the sound of the engine is so low you can't judge your gear or when to shift.

Now I am practicing for Mission 34. :scared: So, I can do it with minimum retries. I am not very patient when it comes to the wait time. I like the 3-Lap missions because you can restart and just go. I can't understand why they couldn't just put the cars where they would be at the end of the wait and just give you a running start like the 3-lappers.

Here's a video of mission 30. I don't keep my replays (unless they're really good), so I just did a passing lap here. I don't have my mission 18 or 34 videos, but daan's site has those...

Good luck :)

I tried this one a couple of times again to see what all the talk was about.

Try#1 - Finish about a second behind - bad line
Try#2 - Win by 1.5 seconds (Rammed him into the wall lol)
Try #3 - Win by 0.651 seconds - cool and smooth line.

All else fails - play dirty - its not cheating trust me. In the later missions when you have the perfect line and they ram you and you get a 5 second penalty you will see what I mean.

Cheers.

I still hate this mission. 1.5 sec behind now, after my zillionth try.......

Not to sound like a Star Wars geek but to quote Yoda:

"You must unlearn what you have learned..."

He says this to Luke when he attempts to life the ship out of the swamp and fails.

If you have tried a zillion times, and I have definately spent lots of time in mission hall, the best thing to do is try something different.

The best advice I learned on this mission was to never let the car go into first gear, now others may disagree but it worked for me. The reason was that in the complex after the straight at the top of the track I was losing tons of time. My lines were too steep and I was way to slow so I tried something new. I went slower into the first corner of the complex and was in more control through the rest, and much faster!

So my advice is that if you find you are hitting corners sharp and the tires are squealling then try slowing down and accelerate through the corner. You are obviously close to beating this one so just make a slight adjustment and you will win by 2 or 3 seconds - I guarantee.
