I'm sort of getting tired of the Guitar Hero and Rock Band add on content, don't other developers make stuff for their games? I mean ya we are getting other stuff but it always seems like there is new songs for sale. It's the same on the 360 as well, which sort of annoys me as well.

Any word on new Classic Games?

Tired as in you wish they would quit putting it out? Or tired as in it makes you realize other devs don't do enough?

Rock Band had a guarantee that they would have new DLC every week. Activision said Gutar Hero would do that too, but failed.

And just to show how much effort Rock Band puts into DLC support Harmonix announced that Rock Band 2 will support Rock Band DLC and all new Rock Band 2 DLC will be backwards compatible with Rock Band.

Any word on new Classic Games?
None. I had hopes for a GT1 or GT2 with the GT5P launch and an MGS with MGS4, but apparently themed weeks are not a fun PS Store thing.

More so tired that other developers don't do enough. I mean games are expensive and I would like to hang on to them after I beat them, but if I don't have interest in them anymore then why bother?

Mass Effect's "Big Sky" add-on was awesome. It easily added about 2 hours of additional game play for an already amazing game. I don't expect sheer awesomeness with all DLC but some additional stuff would be nice.

Buy Pixel Junk Monsters and Super Star Dust HD. They will easily last you dozens of hours.

I personally don't want to see classics, I want new games. To hell with classics, IMO.

that's your opinion but as some classics become hard to find I think it's a great opportunity for the PS store since it's not eating up too much dev time... I would personally rather see more PS1 games than some of the small new games, but as with you that's just my opinion.

You may have to wait until E3 for any new info, but last I heard there were several new PSN games scheduled for release before the end of the year, but I don't really pay any attention to the classic stuff... as so many classic video games are free and easily available on the PC.

I admit though, having a console version can be fun if it has some decent online support. Using the PS3 controller can be much nicer than a keyboard and mouse on a PC.

However, even a controller doesn't do a great job replicating the same controls and buttons found in many classic arcade games. This is why I have been really tempted to make a MAME Arcade Cabinet with one of my old PCs and CRT monitors.

In the mean time, the only classic games I have bought for my PS3 are:
  • Q*bert
  • Joust
  • Lemmings
  • Rampage World Tour
I know there are several more than those available, but the only one of these that we really ever play is Rampage World Tour, and that's fairly rare.

Heck, we rarely ever even play PS2 games on our PS3, although after we took the Kids to our local IMAX theater to see Whales in 3-D, I went and dug up my old PS2 copy of Ecco The Dolphin and put it in the PS3 for the kids to play... although once they reached the chapter with the giant Great White, we naturally turned it off. :)

Of the 40 or so PSN games that have already been released, the ones we have the most interest in by far are the original PS3 games like:
  • echochrome
  • Operation Creature Feature
  • Trials of Topoq
  • PixelJunk Monsters
  • Super Stardust HD
  • Super Rub-a-Dub
  • Calling All Cars
  • Blast Factor Advanced Research
  • flOw
  • High Stakes Poker
  • LocoRoco Cocoreccho!

Yes. And the controllers for Rock Band will also work in Rock Band 2. I'm so excited.

Next week they are releasing "Snow (Hey Oh)" and "Tell Me Baby" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a bunch of classic The Who songs the week after that. :)

PAIN! has worked hard to keep things kind of relevant. So far they have just done mostly characters and additional gameplay modes, but sometime this month, maybe next month, they are releasing their new environment. ON their blog the lead developer has said it will be under $6.99 and include more stuff than the original game. Oh, and it is getting online multiplayer.

I know a couple of people on here are really wanting to take some shots at me as they can't beat my 5 million on the leaderboards.

Buy Pixel Junk Monsters and Super Star Dust HD. They will easily last you dozens of hours.
And adding trophies just makes it more so.

I personally don't want to see classics, I want new games. To hell with classics, IMO.
I really do enjoy some of my PS1 games. It is a very cheap way to extend my PSP library as well. I know Medieval gets some serious play time when I am on the road. I also like going back through my Crash Bandicoot games.

It is also convenient to pick them up this way so that they are on the hard drive and not cases taking up shelf space, which my wife already complains about.

You may have to wait until E3 for any new info, but last I heard there were several new PSN games scheduled for release before the end of the year, but I don't really pay any attention to the classic stuff... as so many classic video games are free and easily available on the PC.
My issue with a lot of the PSN games recently is that they aren't that great now. The first batch were incredibly awesome. But I feel as if the ability to touch on the greatness that is Cash Guns Chaos, Calling All Cars, Super Stardust HD, and even Blast Factor is falling short. Wolf of the Battlefield disappointed and I am still waiting on NovaStrike to give me a demo, because I haven't heard very many great reviews for that.

Don't get me wrong, occasionally we still get some incredibly awesome innovative titles that break down barriers, like Echochrome and PAIN! But those are one or two a year at the current rate. I am beginning to tire of omni-directional shooters. And looking at my list I realize that I do not like any of the multiplatform titles.

I think that certain devs have seen a cookie cutter pattern that sells and are doing just that. The exclusives are attempting some new stuff, because they have support from Sony or Microsoft, and that is awesome.

What I am excited about are revamps of classics, like the 1942 HD remake coming out or Bionic Commando Rearmerd. Take something I love and update it a bit. Although I was never a huge fan of Bionic Commando, I recognize it will be good for those who like it. This actually makes me long for the original side-scrolling Duke Nukem games to be updated with HD graphics. Or the Commander Keen series. There is a lot of potential to tap my nostalgia nerve.

Joey may need to clarify, but by Classics I thought he was talking PS1 titles.

However, I will touch on this. Some of these true PS3 only Classics actually work better here than a mouse and keyboard, because they are direct arcade copies. Those are controls that are built a around a joystick and 1-4 buttons. That works perfect with a console controller with analog sticks. I remember on my PC I bought a gamepad that looked like a PlayStation controller, but had a small joystick that could be screwed into the D-pad so I could play my classic games.

In the mean time, the only classic games I have bought for my PS3 are:
  • Q*bert
  • Joust
  • Lemmings
  • Rampage World Tour
I know there are several more than those available, but the only one of these that we really ever play is Rampage World Tour, and that's fairly rare.
Replace Joust with Mortal Kombat 2 and add Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and you have my list. I already have Joust on my PC.

Another bonus to classics: I never owned Symphony of the Night before now. That game is expensive to find elsewhere.

Do you have a Wii? If they are getting into the whole marine life thing you may want to check out Endless Ocean. It is more of an exploration and learning title from what I gather. I haven't played it yet but it is next on my Gamefly list.

And on the IMAX movie front: Check out Aliens of the Deep and Deep Sea. They were both 3-D Imax films but, they won't put out 3-D versions on disc. I'll save that rant for a different thread.

Good list.

Yes. And the controllers for Rock Band will also work in Rock Band 2. I'm so excited.
Yep, Harmonix is serving their fans well. Now if only the Guitar Hero controllers would work. I'm contemplating the Nyko Front Man as my second.

Next week they are releasing "Snow (Hey Oh)" and "Tell Me Baby" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and a bunch of classic The Who songs the week after that. :)
You mean this week (XBox 360 should get them today) for Chili Peppers. And you forgot Rush. Closer to the Heart and Working Man. How can you forget Rush? Finally some Rush masters. But now I want my money back on that Working Man cover I bought already.

And the Best of The Who is next week. I'm just buying the whole track pack.

For anyone interested here is that track list ($1.99 each or $19.99 as a set):
  • "Amazing Journey"
  • "Baba O'Riley"
  • "Behind Blue Eyes"
  • "Eminence Front"
  • "Going Mobile"
  • "Leaving Here"
  • "My Generation" (LIVE)
  • "Real Good Looking Boy"
  • "Sea & Sand"
  • "Summertime Blues" (LIVE)
  • "Who Are You"
  • "Young Man Blues" (LIVE)

And before someone says it: Pinball Wizard is rumored to be in Rock Band 2.

But back to what started this whole thing: Harmonix and, to some degree, Activision have been very good about DLC for their fans.

I'm so not a fan of the Rock Band controller. I used both(GHIII Les Paul) with Guitar Star for pc, and i mess up on sweeps and parts with lots of hammer on's and pull offs. Guitar Hero 4 promises way more dlc content than GH3.

Foolkiller, Activision has been really kind by releasing free songs including 2 full 3 three song packs for free. I cant wait for Gh4 and its custom song maker and the ability to share them.

See, I am the exact opposite. The smaller size of the Guitar Hero controller throws off my timing or something. I was playing Rock Band at a friend's house on his 360 and he used the GH guitars. I was screwing things up badly, but then I go home and pull 98%-100% on them with my Fender Strat. I think it is just a matter of what you are used to.

Guitar Hero 4 promises way more dlc content than GH3.
If they would have started it from the beginning they wouldn't be needing to say this now. That is what killed Activision on the DLC front. Well, that and the band specific titles that really should just be DLC.

Foolkiller, Activision has been really kind by releasing free songs including 2 full 3 three song packs for free.
I'm not saying they have done bad, but they didn't meet their promises of DLC every week. I also don't like the song packs. Sometimes I don't want every song that week.

In comparison, Rock Band sells each song separately, many times they are in a pack that will knock off a minimum of $0.50 from the set of three. Other times they have deals sponsored by people. Like last week was sponsored by CrueFest, so each song was only $0.99. And EA has been good about extending licensing for their in-game music to be used as free DLC in Rock Band also.

I cant wait for Gh4 and its custom song maker and the ability to share them.
I won't be getting GH: World Tour. I already have a full set of instruments, minus second guitar. So, unless the guitar works with Rock Band (on the PS3) my second guitar will be third party.

Custom songs basically means unlimited songs to play. Thats very big for me. I'm not interested in GH4's full instruments myself, its just the challenge, the fret board, easy to spot HOPO's and hyperseed options. I'm just getting the new guitar.

So you can pull off consecutive hopo parts in RB expert songs well? I sure can't. I have no problem with anything but hammer ons and pull offs. The game is much easier than GH also.

I am wary of what quality these custom songs will be. If whatever third-party guitar I uses works with GH4 then I will likely buy the software only version.

Expert? Uh, no. I've only had RB for three weeks. I have just gotten to the point where I can pull off four and five stars on all medium level songs.

Plus, my left hand is messed up (long story), so I doubt I will ever get quick enough to master even Hard. I just know that something about the GH controller threw off my timing, and the best I can figure is that it was the size difference. The only other possibility is that my friend's TV had lag.

American PSN cards in the strangest places: England

Reader Benny Boy sent us another pic of those North American PSN cards so many people are waiting on. It's not surprising to see these cards being sold as they've been out in Meijer for almost a month now. So why are we running this story? The twist here involves where these cards were found. The card spotting wasn't in the US or even on our continent; it was found in far away England -- land of dragons, knights, and tea.

Benny Boy, a US soldier stationed in England, found the cards on the military base RAF Croughton -- which is used by the US Air Force. We can see the logic starting to play out; cards appear first on American bases, and then now American bases in foreign countries. Still, it's a bit odd to see American cards deployed around the world while the situation at home is seemingly ignored. Sounds a lot like current American politics. Oh, seriously, we did not just go there.

REALLY!?!? I have been wanting that Team Pack since it was announced, it was up for a bit then pulled with FW 2.40. Now we have our firmware fixed, where is my Team Pack?

Can anyone confirm if it is in the in-game store? Or did it just get snuck back into the store without being announced?

Anyone noticed the slight tweak to the PSN Store that you can add an exact amount of funds to your wallet that you need, rather than $5, $10, $20. etc.?

I really, really like that.

Anyone noticed the slight tweak to the PSN Store that you can add an exact amount of funds to your wallet that you need, rather than $5, $10, $20. etc.?

I really, really like that.

That has actually been the case since the beginning as long as the total was $5 or more.

From over a year ago:

Duċk;2690881
Explain that. I can only add increments, like $5, $10, etc. Not some precise amount like $3.28.
That's because you are adding funds BEFORE purchasing. Try it the other way, like you would if you were buying a game off Amazon. By adding it to your cart, and then paying for it you can put in the exact total cost to your wallet, thus always leaving your balance at $0.

Both systems suck - how about we skip the wallet and points and all of that BS and be able to pay for a single thing through a credit card?
That's what you can do with the PSN. It is your choice whether you actually want to use the wallet system like a PayPal account with a balance. Otherwise you can just pay the exact cost of each game you buy, always leaving a balance of $0 in your wallet.

It has been this way since the PS3 came out and the PS Stores went online.

I hope this is now clear for all those thinking they are forced to put in more money in their virtual PSN wallets than they are needing to spend at any given time.

has anyone tried siren demo? i like that genre of games but havent had the time to dl and play.

A couple months ago I played around with the demo that was released on the Japanese PSN store, and really enjoyed it, and posted my thoughts on the PS3 Game Demo Thread:

  • Siren: New Translation

    • 545 MB (only available in HK & JP Stores - but in English)

While all the dialogue and most of the menus are in English, some of the menus are not.
However, don't let that put you off... if you like games like Silent Hill, this is right up your alley. 👍
In addition, the sound effects are REALLY creepy for this game, especially for those playing it with a 5.1-7.1 surround sound system.
BTW: This is what all the hoopla was about regarding the mysterious countdown clock on the Japanese Playstation website.

It's very creepy with out relying on exessive gore. 👍

That has actually been the case since the beginning as long as the total was $5 or more.
Are we the only ones that were aware of this? I've been doing it since I got my PS3 last year. I have yet to actually just add funds to my wallet.
