Ongoing PSN outages

But wait a sec...surely Microsoft are that rich? They don't pay XBL when if anything they are just as rich as Sony.
Not using the profits from games/accessories to fund their online service is one of the reasons why Microsoft has money to throw around at publishers every once in a while to get timed exclusives and the like. I imagine Microsoft has some kind of general fund for things like that.

Is wrong.

The cost of on xbox game is not relevant to the cost of psn in any way.
Not directly, no, but the fact that there is no difference in price between PS3 games and 360 games means that there is no secret PSN tax squirreled away when you purchase PS3 games.

Looking at gt5 for example it is clear it has very little play value offline so we are obviously buying it with the intentions of playing online. If I did not have internet at my home or could not pay for psn if it had cost, I would not own games that are only usefull online.

On the other hand I really do love playing ratchet and clank games with my kids and I have no problem buying those games with no reguard to psn.
Making it so only some games pay for PSN would be a very unreliable way of funding PSN. While Sony might not establish a general fund situation and pay for PSN out of it, they almost certainly contribute a portion of every game/peripheral/system's profits towards PSN maintenance rather just the games that are online-centric.

What you've said is absolute rubbish.
Ah. Brilliant rebuttal. Allow me to reply with an equally thoughtful response:
NO U!

When you've actually been at boardroom level in a company like myself
Let me guess: Enron?

know what you're talking about please come back to me and we'll continue this discussion. Until then......
I'm not particularly impressed with your resume when you are getting stuff wrong that an Accounting 101 student would know.

What? So unless Sony charge their customers a set amount per annum for their online services then that means that it's free? I'm not confusing anything, we, Sony's customers, pay for Playstation Network. We ARE actually paying for it.
Are you really an corporate exec? How do you not know what I meant? Legal stand point? Where does your argument stand?

Soooo apparently from what I've read (not sure how reliable reports are) but there was another hack put onto the PSN. I don't know if this is true, but I sure would like to see Sony use all that damn money they have and put it to good use while PSN is down and create better and stronger barriers to keep it from getting hacked once a week. This is sad and not good for Sony sales.

Relax people, we've found the culprit.

Incidentally the CEO of Microsoft seems to have a soft spot for a certain PS3 driving game

Shhhh. Don't tell anyone, or I'll hack your little driving game forum.

Not anymore, I actually have my own small company now. What argument are you talking about?

Still wrong.

Exactly.

I'm not exactly impressed with your boring replies so I guess we're even

What argument are you talking about?
Seriously? I thought it was something about people pay, or not pay for PSN, but I could be wrong.

If you really were corporate bigwig, you'd know that your claim would require an legal leg to stand on. Without it, it's just bunch of blah-blah-blah.

I'm thinking we should get back onto topic now. If this thread were to be closed, well, I can even fathom the outcries.

I think if the admins shut down this thread that would just be...cruel.

I'm literally watching my dog do laps around my livingroom. And she's going so fast she's losing traction on the turns! Watch out for that berm! No. That's a futon.

Still wrong.
But there isn't one.
You pay for PSN because you buy things from Sony and Sony chooses to spend some of their profits on PSN, just like you pay for everything Sony does because you buy things from Sony. You don't pay for PSN because Sony directly charges you for PSN.

Yes. And it is taken from Sony's profits. The only practical difference is that Sony makes less money for other things when all is said and done. That's still not a PSN tax or anything of the sort, because that money would still go to Sony even if PSN was a subscription service. They would just spend it on something else.

Wow, vaguely clever wordplay. You sure showed me!

What does legality have to do with the actual situation? That's why companies employ lawyers, my job if you must know, was to overlook my company's interests in Scotland, as in I would oversee very one of my employers branches in my designated region and deliver reports with my fellow regional directors to our superiors. You tend to learn a fair bit about company finance in a position like that. especially about where money goes.

That Sony site's saying PSN is on. I have no idea if it's true, as I'm not in the EU. It was saying offline about 1/2 hour ago. Maybe PSN's about to spring back to life. I for one aren't getting my hope up to much yet.

Either that or it'll just force a billion threads saying 'PSN down?' in every single GT5 forum and none in the actual forum it's in right now...

Really? When I click the link it says "oh no we got pwned. More to come 12 hours from now. Stay tuned!"

Does it. I'm looking at the top right hand corner of the page. Where there's a little green light and PlayStation®NetworkOn. I'm not sure where you're looking.

As I said, I'm not sure if it's true, or a mistake, but the light was Red and said PlayStation®Network Offline a little while ago.

I was...not aware there was said light. That's interesting. I was just reading their message that's been up all day. Hmmm. Anyone want to confirm?

Still down in Texas.

And the light just turned back to red.

Hey! Yall hear da PSN is down?....:dopey:

NO!!!!!!! HOLY ****. :dopey:

Actually, i'm glad in a way PSN is down, is giving me more time to play some of the psone classics I bought off PSN recently. Just polished off Medal Of Honor last night. :D

I don't care how you slice it Toronado we DO pay for psn. All your mincing is meaningless and still wrong.

If there was no psn do you think the games released would have so little offline playability? If so would you still buy them? Everone is buying ps3 games with the assumption they can play them on the psn at no additional cost.

News to me, brotha. Whodunit?

I think I read somewhere about Bill Gates, a bus load of aliens, and a disgruntled Easter bunny being ticked about trekies creating a hole in the ozone or something...
