I'm in tonight
^Meh, don't sweat it, I gave out my annual doze of taps today too.
I don't get this car at all. I can't get the thing to turn even with abs at zero and 0-10 BB. And braking into almost complete stop in a particular piece of pavement in the middle of the corner so that I can floor it from there feels very unnatural to me.
Me and dsg just barely touched fenders a couple times at monaco tonght, just wanted to apologize and say my bad, something like that will never happen during a race.
If you barely touched fenders at Monaco, you should be proud of yourselves.
I think Zilla was being sarcastic.
It's interesting to see people having issues with the turn-in of the TC. For whatever reason I have no problem with understeer or oversteer with this car, I simply point it where I want it to go and that's exactly where it goes. Especially on the racing hard tires I was running last night, I was even able to make adjustments to my line in the middle of a turn to make room for a car on the inside. On the harder tires this would have resulted in me pushing wide into the grass but it was a piece of cake on the RH compound and allowed both of us to get through the turn unscathed.....that's the kind of racing I want to see. 👍
On a different note, would any of you be interested in running a 200 mile Indy Lights race at IMS in the FGT, perhaps a week from this Friday? Owens and I ran a full length Indy 500 last year and it was pretty dang cool. My local news has been filled with Indy 500 stuff lately and I'm getting quite pumped for the race, would like to do one of our own. 👍
It would be tuning prohibited, but in order to avoid pegging the rev limiter half way down the straight the cars need to have the power dialed back quite a bit, thus the Indy Lights theme. This also makes the car a little easier to drive and should make for better racing. It would feature a parade lap and full damage on racing tires (likely the compound of your choosing, pending more testing). We could do qualifying during the week where everybody gets a 4 lap run and we take the average of the 2nd and 3rd lap, then do a manual line up on race day. 200 miles would be 80 laps and take a little over an hour to run.
Thoughts?
^^^
Maybe, depending on when you do it.
Id give it a shot, Im horrible with the FGT though
Id also like to say that I am never sarcastic and I dont know how anyone could think something like that. Can we do a 500 lap demolition race with jumps over fire and banked ice turns?

carracerptpThat would be great, I love the FGT on ovals in the new cockpit view 👍
That's one of the reasons I want to do it, we didn't have the awesome cockpit view last year and that really adds an authentic touch to the experience. Our 500 still ranks as one of my most memorable GT5 adventures.
I should be around for some FGT practice/ testing this evening if anyone's interested.
I will be around from 7 to 9ish so I hope to pop in.
TrackBound7I am interested in the Indy race. Even with full power you can take the FGT wide open around Indy, so in terms of being able to handle the car, everyone should be okay. The biggest thing is being comfortable in a huge pack with lots of drafting. I think we should all be on the same compound. If everyone is on different compounds I bet the racing gets more spread out with different pit strategies and speed on track.
So, we did a bit of testing with the neutered FGT last night around Indy Speedway. We ended up downgrading to Sports Hard tires to try to add a little liveliness to the handling, it helped a little bit. With the car down on power this much it's VERY easy to get around the track and we even went 3-wide through a couple turns. That's good in the sense that it will lessen the likelihood of crashes but it also takes away some of the intensity when you have basically no chance of wrecking.
The draft is so ridiculous that it's a real crap-shoot who's going to win, the prevailing strategy is to just stay close through the race and whoever gets the best draft off of turn 4 will be the winner. Not terribly exciting and no real satisfaction in a victory of that nature. But there were only 3 of us and the most we did was 14 laps so not a lot of chances to mix things up. With a larger field, longer race and multiple pitstops it would be a bit more exciting.
If we can get a good group together tonight we can try doing a 50 lap race to see if that makes things a little more interesting. I should probably be free after 8pm EDT tonight if anyone's interested.

Im wondering if it would be possible to turn up the top speed a little though I think we can push this thing into 240mph in the draft.
I might be able to add just a touch of power, I just wanted to make sure we weren't constantly bouncing off the rev-limiter. We ran at 611hp last night (weird room restrictions) and the only time I hit the limiter was when I got a "double-draft" (slingshot past one car, into another car's draft, then slingshot past them). To a degree, I think hitting the limiter when you have a super-draft could be a bit of a good thing as it will limit the exaggerated effect of the slipstream a little.
I was thinking more of moving the trans top speed up and leaving the hp at 600hp, but I trust your judement so do what ever you want.
Or you could limit the HP a bit so that there's not rev-limiter bouncing. This is oval Indy you're talking about, not the roadcourse, right?
But we can't adjust the trans with "tuning prohibited" and I'm trying to run the car in totally stock form.
