Im totally cool with running any way you want, you know alot more about this than I do and you always seem to make good decisions. I did have a problem getting my car into a "tuning prohibited" race the other day, I checked everyting to make sure it was set to default and it still gave me trouble. I hope this will not be a problem tonight but any suggestions to something I may have overlooked would be appreciated. For the record, areo, suspention, brakes, and trans were all set to default.

Go to one of the other settings sheets, everything should be default there. And make sure you don't have your chassis re-inforced.

Did a little playing at Laguna with the Sub. Definitely a better experience than at Monaco. Still got some getting use to it though, that is for sure.

I love the sub at Laguna, it also runs great at Grand Valley. In my opinon there are too many tight corners at monaco.

Last night we were at the virtual Indy Motor Speedway, right now I'm at the real deal watching qualifying for the Indy 500. :sly:

How are speeds looking so far? I'll tune in at 4:30 when coverage starts up... Been watching the Nurburgring 24 Hours all morning/afternoon.

Fast guys are 224-225 so far. Found a shady seat in turn 1 for the Fast 9 Shootout. :)

Shade is key today. I put in some yard work earlier, it was rough out there...

It has terrible turn-in...

Finally got a little time to drive the Subaru TC and I have to say I agree with Carr...the turn in/understeer is awful. I imagine with some front tire wear you'll really be fighting this thing to turn late in the run. I even tried a couple of laps with CS on the back and it didn't make much difference.

I drove the FGT as well at 611 hp and I think it would be a fun race. Depending on scheduling I'd be up for it:tup:

I was thinking more of moving the trans top speed up and leaving the hp at 600hp, but I trust your judement so do what ever you want.

SO you guys did an Indy race? Wouldn't you want to set power to 650hp and 690kg? Last I checked that's what Indy cars are running. I've actually always wanted to some "Indy car" racing in GT5. Road and oval. I gotta keep my eye on this thread more often, I would've loved to join

The race hasn't been run yet. Since the "no tuning" option is selected, you can't change the transmission, so you have to keep the power low enough that you aren't on the rev limiter in the draft. Also means no ballast.

I did one of the practice races. I had a blast! Not a huge amount of skill in terms of keeping with the pack, but there are a ton of passes each lap and lots of darting around, and cars on all sides. A lot to keep track of and to keep off of each other. Anyone within the draft on the last lap has a shot at the win, so in that sense there is a lot of luck involved, but still a good time. I would be up for a 50-100 lap race if the schedule worked out right.

Has anyone driven the S2000 LM Race Car? I took it out for a few laps on SM tires and it was exceptional. Plenty of gearbox for larger tracks, and handles much like the Alfa Zagato just with more power. I think it was only around 300 hp too but on SM tires was within 1.5 seconds of the Subaru at GVE.

FINALLY!!!!!!

GT5 2.06 UPDATE AVAILABLE!

Looks like they may have finally fixed the "disappearing tire noise" issue, finally. This was one of my biggest issues with the current state of the game. Logitech force feedback is apparently improved as well, a very welcome addition but I haven't been able to test it yet. 👍

Not sure I understand about the 125 SPL Kart and the tire changing ability. If I read that right, you can no longer change the tire compound on that kart. I thought that was what made it special?

Apparently it was an accident, like being able to have F1 cars and Karts on the track at the same time.

Anybody tried driving the Impreza TC with the "new physics/feedback"? Wondering if some of this mystery understeer has gone away? (not likely, I'm sure).

^ Me neither. But I didn't really notice any understeer in the Preza TC so in my case there was nothing to fix. Reports seems to be pretty positive so far though, FFB feels much better, there's little-to-no "dead zone" in the center of the wheel anymore (never really noticed this either) and I guess the "movement" of the car feels a little more lively and has more feeling to the suspension. I'm sure a big part of that is just placebo effect, but they did mention improvements in the patch notes and any improvement is good (usually). I'll be giving it a thorough shakedown after work tonight. :sly:

I didn't know there was any changes to the physics, I thought it was just the Force Feedback that was changed.

This understeer issue with 4wd race cars isn't unique to the Impreza. We drove the R34 TC in Sag's Tri-Auto Cup and it drove much like the Impreza TC stock and needed massive adjustments to get it to turn in sharply and continue rotating. I remember driving the Schulze Time Trial and believe I ended up at +60/0 for ride height because it too would not turn easily. Not sure why this is as you wouldn't expect these cars to handle like this in real life with their stock tune.

And if this is true then the sound adjustments have gone backwards not forwards:tdown::

mister dog
I had the engine sound of my own car going numb, whilst passing a AI car, and the AI cars sound was disturbed also (sounded like a electrical disturbance). Didn't experience this before 2.06

Anyone can confirm this?

Response:
I had exactly the same problem racing a friend last night straight after the update. It happened in several cars, and you need to be a long, long distance away from another vehicle before all the sounds come back to full volume. It was very weird and distracting; it is literally like you have someone on a mixing deck turning your volume up and down depending on how close or far you are from anyone else. When side by side, it is impossible to know when your are wheelspinning or when you need to change gear unless you are looking at the rev counter, as everything from my vehicle was nothing short of silent.

Also, when looking backwards in 3rd person view, the volume was not only much louder, but mostly coming from the right channel too.

I'm truly mystified by this understeer issue as I really don't experience it. But I have adopted a new driving style over the last couple months and that's probably the reason.

I just drove the Impreza RM on SM tires and found it very lively and fun to drive, but I'm guessing it will understeer for everyone else. :( BTW, has anyone else noticed it's labeled as a '05 Impreza but it clearly has the body and nose of a '06-'07? I've never seen that mentioned.

FFB does feel nicer, gets much stiffer and slow turns feels much better. Didn't notice many other differences beside having to turn my volume up. I should be on around 8 EDT for some messing about.

I wonder if it has anything to do with your hardware? Maybe it's a wheel specific thing that driving this car with a DFGT gives you a certain feeling but driving it with a G27 or DS3 gives you a different feeling? When it comes to GT5 anything is possible:crazy: It's possible the on screen driving and the actual physics are the same for each of us, but that the "feel" of the car through different hardware translates into a feeling of understeer for some of us and not others. Be interesting to track what everyone is using for hardware and how they feel about particular cars.

If you try to slowdown to a crawl first - then it turns. If you try to start your trailbraking early - it won't turn no matter how hard you try.

It's a mix of both but not like you're thinking. A good portion is driving style but my "upgraded" pedals have a lot to do with it too, and they facilitated the change in driving style. And partly what DSG said too. :sly:
