xerx and oni should be banned from using softs and mediums at all!!!
maybee you's should be out there on "sports hards" at alll times!!! lololol!!

Ummm...

In truth when I threw out that idea about using tyres to bring in parity. I was 1/2 joking . . . 33.33% Joking something like that.

I don't really know if I'd like that as a way to level the field as it would remove motivation to knuckle down and do better. Which I do feel now, in a big way.

I'd feel that perhaps something like what happens in real world racing series like using ballast ( which GT5 has ) to slow the winner of the previous round. Don't know if you can monitor that, but it'd be an aid for ALL the field, guys who are knocking on the door of the leaders would find that more beneficial to them.

The tyre idea actually works really well from what a few of us tested. It will work like a handicap. Once the driver becomes faster with the tyres the handicap i removed.

The ballast idea is impossible to monitor and would rely on every driver being honest and using the ballast. Tyres are easy to monitor as i watch replays (as does most of the other drivers) from each race.

Tyres idea will work very well. I will just have to setup some rules to factor in accidents (when drivers crash and need to pit to repair) to ensure drivers don't 'cheat' the system.

Any more spots?

I'll like to join in.

I'll put you on the wild card list for the moment. Tonight/Tomorrow i should have the list of drivers locked down and if i get any drop outs ill put you in. You'd be available for every race?

I'll fit better in the wild card. With a new baby, I can't say I'll be there every race!

Thanks.

Oni - take LTN off the wildcard list - i dont think he's up for it to be honest.

Not a problem mate. I'll take him off.

hey i'd like to enter if there's any available spots too

PSN: barfNZ

I'll have to put you on the wildcard list for now mate. If a spot opens during the series you can take over for that teams driver.

Hey Oni. Just a quick reminder about "lounges" ... Remember the NSX Cup how a few drivers only saw half the field and that caused chaos for those people who where blanked out.

We may have lag issues regardless on connection speeds. Beast has a 8Mb/s connection and issues still arise, where as my 1.5Mb/s I can run fine...

Life story out of the way. If we do have trouble with a full grid in a lounge then we should migrate to a public server.. That's where the dedicated servers are.

Ill be there ...4th of july, easy to remember even though im not a yankee doodle dandy.i like the rules alot, good thought has gone into it i believe.should be fun,id like to have a bit of a test to see connection status, ive got rubbished so much going online with my wireless broadband,so a change to telstra adsl (7-8mbps max where i live)and i havennt had a complaint since.look forward to getting involved.chow from the sow

We should probably also think about rolling starts, as it happended again at grand valley in the s15's - we didnt start where we qualified...
Im sure this will spark much debate as to which is the best way to go about it...
1 - do a "formation lap" as done in F1, take grid positions and start at a certain time on timer
2 - follow the leader around for a lap (as if he were the safety car) with no speed limits and go up to racing speed at the second last corner or so (in this case, it would be up to each driver to stay as close as possible to the car in front towards the end of the lap)
3 - exit the pits, get in order, bunch up and hit pause button for one lap (unpause accross finish line)
4 - (this one would be fun) REVERSE GRID for all races... fast guys at the back? (dunno bout this option, but would bunch up the field for the first 1/4 of the race at least)..

I think we should do the rolling restart like an F1 restart after the safety car.

The leader dictates the pace, and theres no overtaking until the start/finish line.

Should have a speed limit of 150kph on the formation lap, and if you spin or go off warming your tyres it's your own fault. Give the car in front a fair gap incase he loses control because if you get hit by a car spinning, it's also your own fault.

I vote for this! 👍
A speed limit of 150kph would work well and running off is the responsibility of each driver to avoid, we could then set an acceleration line (similar to my kart racing) where once the LEADER crosses this line (usually on the S/F straight a few-hundred metres before the S/F line) it is game on and EVERYONE can be full throttle but YOU cannot overtake until YOU have crossed the S/F line... :)
It is a simple system used in a lot of forms of motorsport (including karting & indycars) there is no confusion as to how the system works and it does work. Trust me, I have raced karts (and GT5) with some absolute idiots (and that's being polite... :sly:) but everyone can get a grasp of how this system works without any trouble. ;)

I agree also. 👍

But we need to factor in the period at the start where we shuffle about to get the running order corrected. That might be a tricky little exercise in itself. How we go about doing that is another thing to work out.

You can just have everyone reverse slowly and then the leader lines up at the start finish line, one at a time you line up behind him, it'll take 30 seconds.

I agree, all exit the pits and stop.. get in order then follow the leader! As long as you remember who you are behind once you qualified, the rest should sort itself out quite easily..

We wont have to exit the pits it is the start of the race... 👍
We will be on the start-line sequence and then just have to sort our own order before beginning the parade lap. :)

Do practice rooms get posted here? What happens if after crossing this line bfore the start line, then u miss a gear or you might just want to drop back ala nascar oval style, too keep out of trouble.lines before start lines,i dont know.only a suggestion guys.ill let the smart guys do the rules,im just suggesting and will be happy with all outcomes.too stressfull for me.since i started racing online my head has gone crazy,i have religiously followed motorsport all my life.I often say to meself how do they do it all,the drivers, now im doin it,and its real to me coz its as good as its going to get.ill really like to practice in practice rooms if our leaugue is doing that.I tryn to spend as much time on the net researching but my little staffy loves walking and he just lets me drive all the time,a little nudge here and there for sumthing he wants(walks, dinner)so i have to walk him,and i enjoy it so much too, catch ya'll from down under

Add me to your friends list if you already haven't on PSN. Almost every night i setup a practice room for the IS-F RM series leading up to the qualifier this monday. We test car setups, offer advice on setups, have a few mock races in between and just have fun with it. Once its race day everyone knuckles down and put their serious race face on.

So you are welcome to test with us anytime. At the moment we are only testing at Fuji Speedway F as the qualifier is held there this monday.

I had a much better practice session last night, The first one was a bit lousy.

One thing that helped ( might help others out there ) was that I gave up trying to use manual gears. Just went with auto.

Having to flick gears all time, 8 gears , I just found it distracting. Driving auto feels a little odd, but it's a better option, for me anyway.

Ill have trouble not laughing at the NZ accent(butchery of engalishe)I fall off me chair listenin to the yanks and such....one yank"does aus have power)lol, just stirrin,no offence meant
Any castor set up advice.....for the wheels that my computer chair has got,my set up=desk(needs chassis reinforcment but its not in GT Auto)Comp chair. Some guys who do a G25 series have measured up their road cars,an EVO i fink, and had some CAD plan.gawd im an aussie, ill get half a car chuked in me lounge,grinder....see you's in practice

Practice rooms are not posted mate but usually Oni will have a room open of an evening, if not, someone will almost always! 👍
Feel free to shoot me a FR as I often run practice rooms when Oni is working/on a quest... ;)
I will most likely have a good run tonight too but will not be until later (10 or 11pm start) as I have a dinner commitment for the evening.

On a side note, glad my suggestion for the Enzo setup (in the other thread) helped you out with the seasonal events! I had posted that almost 3 months ago and forgotten about it until everyone wanted a setup for the Enzo with the latest seasonals!... Glad to have helped out! :D

Cheers, Xerx :)

Hey Oni + other guys,

I was looking through some of the other threads here on GTPlanet to see what comments etc there are on rolling starts, how they are worked.

I also found this, which sounds like a way to fix the starting grid to the correct order, without having to get the guys to do a parade lap:

From the ||Mistubishi Lancer EVO IX Tuner Cup - Sign-Ups are OPEN!! Season starts 07/10/11 thread, run by BlackIce90

Race Format:
To grid the cars at the beginning of the race, I will call everyone's PSN name in the exact order qualified. One at a time we all line up on a chosen straight of the track in order of our qualifying position. We set the room to grid drivers according to the "fastest first" option. If we start the race where everyone is parked in line in qualifying order it will put us in that order for the race start.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=209820

I think this could work 👍

We should give it a few test runs

Some of our practice parade laps have been . . . well comedy mainly.

I have an idea for the "parade" lap that we can test tonight if there are enough people in my lounge. Ill start testing tonight from 8pm (Sydney Time). So if your all on be sure to drop in and do some testing.

to much hassale and time to waste, bugger it i rekon just start were it puts u
u have to remember that people do set times then leave track and dont set as good time so it seems that its mixed up because how it refreshes but uve already put down a better time so ure further up the grid when u rejoin even if ure at the bottom and say uve done the fastest lap and re join ure at the bottom but start in p1.

Yeah but the issue with pitting and re-joining isn't really relevant because you have actually set a faster time so you should still be entitled to start where you deserve! :D

If I am not mistaken the live timing screen holds your best lap time even when you have left the circuit so in reality, people would not need to say what time they did because it would jut be a matter of checking the live timing screen to find out where everyone qualified! 👍

Added to this, I believe that the drivers we have in this championship aproach it fairly and without intent to cheat so the risk of someone lying should be quite low!... :nervous:

Cheers, Xerx :)

Hi all,
Just wanted to let you know that I am planning on hosting a testing room online tonight for anyone who wants to do some more preparation for tomorrows season qualifier. I believe I have the majority of the regular drivers on my Friends List but if you are not one of those on my list just send a FR to my primary account (X3rx3s44). If Oni decides to run a room tonight also we may switch across or just run two simultaneously to reduce lag issues, we will see how it pans out! 👍
Hope to catch most of you online tonight!

Cheers, Xerx :)

UPDATE: Testing room open! I may have to leave in the next hour or so for tea but will leave the room open in my absence so everyone is welcome to join and keep turning laps. 👍

An update on that:

I've realised that auto isn't that good an idea. So I'm back to manual. I was losing too much time in the tight corners when the car would change into a low gear and I had to be very delicate with throttle. It might have seemed better at first, but it's not.

So its better to put up with manually changing 8 gears than driving in auto.

I just wanted to put that out there in case someone has followed my old advice about "auto is better" :dunce:

Auto is never a good idea... It's a shame this thing as 8 gears and I'm forced to use my paddles (something I had to get used to again).

Oh and Oni.. I hope you stick with the parade lap idea... That was pretty cool.
