Am I the only one that doesn't mind the change? I agree the softs wear fast, but I think it's great that I now have to think and make a decision on which compound to run in every race.

Yeah I think its good too makes the races more interesting ;)

GF PD, they have RUINED tyre wear, 3 laps on RS at fuji and I had no grip left gg

I disagree. The tyre wear is great now. I will admit the softs wear abit to fast but this is better in the long run as it makes pit strategy more important.

I did testing last night with Evan and the new tyre wear on all the racing tyres. I even tested the sports tyres. With the sports there is hardly any change to the tyre wear. Looks like it was only changed with the racing tyres.

From my initial testing. Using the same line and consistent driving my results are;

Hards - 15-20 Laps
Mediums - 10-15 laps
Softs - 5-10 laps

The first number being when the tyres start losing time and the 2nd number being the maximum you could get out of the tyres. It looks like a 5 lap life difference for each tyre from the testing.

Now don't take those numbers as final. Setup and smooth driving would decrease tyre wear but that gives you an idea of how the tyres wear with consistent driving.

Hey are there any spaces in this league?

Sorry mate the series is for Australia and New Zealand drivers only.

I was doing some racing last night with super GT cars, and softs were going Off in 5 laps, thats completely, 5% in all 4 tyres, medium, were gone in 8, and hards, completely gone in 10-12. I lost grip so fast, and it became really difficult to drive, because the car had almost no grip! I had to break 100 metres early.

But yeah, it will make things interesring, and difficult at the same time. Let's hope i'm there to see it.

Were your tyres lighting up red anytime? My test was without the tyres going red even once with consistent driving. Lap times were only a tenth difference each lap.

Smooth driving makes for longer lasting tyres. The harder you push the worse off the tyres become (obviously). Also were your GT500 cars tuned or stock?

Not saying its a bad thing, just it's quite a major change in driving aspects of the game. After 3 laps your in a groove and possibly clear of traffic. But you now have to contend with poorly worn tyres whilst on softs. Will have to do some testing in my nipple (yes it's pink again) during the Chrissy break

No, they were not, and they were stock, i did push i may add, but not too the point that i was sliding, and taking each corner at full speed, so the tyres were not glowing red. but then again, it just maybe my driving style.
I guess it then makes a lot more empthasis on managing tyres, something i really don't like, and i'll probably have to make 3-4 stops each race(if i can join) now. And thats without pushing it.

Too be honest, it seems really unrealistic.

Well like most real life racing you always have to manage your tyre wear and lap times. A hot lapping mindset in a race does not help you with tyre wear. Racers should always have tyre wear on their mind and now with the latest patch to tyres this makes it impossible not to think like that now. I believe this patch will make everyone on GTP better drivers because of this feature.

It could be your driving style its hard to tell. In order to find out you need to do control tests. Also we do not use Racing Softs in this series so you don't have to worry to much. The good thing is now Hards and Mediums have a difference in not only lap times but the total laps you can get on them.

With a 40 lap race you could now choose to run hards the whole race with 1 pit stop or hards for a quarter of the race and 2 more stops for mediums. The changes now open up entirely new pit strategies which i like.

In public online racing where most races are not longer then 5 laps you would use racing softs while any race longer you would use mediums in order to have enough tyres left to make a charge to the front. The softs when they lose grip really start dropping a lot of time per lap compared to the mediums and hards.

I could run consistent laps a lot longer on hards then any other tyre. While in the past i could run the same amount of laps consistently on each tyres.

Also to add. Racing Soft tyres were unrealistic to begin with. No real life race tyre (even R compound) has that amount of grip levels.

PAWEL: If you can hear your tyre sqeeling when you drive it means your pushing to hard and they will wear out faster. It doesn't matter what compound, the only noise you should be hearing is the engine .. and when lapping taital, Glee soundtrack.

Well, there is a little bit of squealing, but not, that the tyres go red, or its extremely loud. But anyway, i'm now racing tsukuba 9hour and will be racing le mans 24 hours, to try and learn how to look after the tyres. Because it will add another element to the racing. Even though i love hot lapping, i'm going to have to be more conservative.

And hopefully, i have no problems by January.

Interesting reading all the comments on the tire changes. It will definately take some adjustment. Personally I like the more aggressive tire wear that's been introduced as its going to add to the overal race variables of these enduros. For example, at what point might u decide to run at say 100% pace or back off a fraction to 95% to gain a little extra advantage by squeezing out another lap. In addition a big lose seems to be more servely punished in terms of wear, which heightens the risk verses reward dynamic...

Anyways, thanks for a great last round guys and hats off to Will and Evan for some pro driving to grab the big points. Merry Christmas and be safe everyone :)

Merry Christmas an happy new year guys hope to see you all at the first race of the year ;) an be safe over the holidays

I did a few offline races with the F10 last night and easily did 20 laps of Monza, on hards, without pitting for feeling the need to.

So... Who's looking at one stopping it now :-D

Just in case you guys didn't know this . . . ( I didn't ) . . .

This has to do with the seasonal events part of the game.

Since the last big update there's a change at the main seasonal event screen. You see a set of 5or6 little stars under the 'logo' for each event. They're unlit until you do the races.

Well there's 2 older series still listed. I'd done them months ago GT500/GT300 series and another world circuits thing (LMP cars). They show all the little stars lit / silver = races completed.

Anyway if you click on that seasonal link, which takes you to the main screen for the seasonal, which shows you the tracks you did, event details etc. . . . the game then says "Hey, you've successfully completed this seasonal series - have a prize car".

It doesn't do it until you go the to main screen, but it's worth doing. The prize cars are pretty good.

This little bit of info has probably been discussed elsewhere in the threads of GTPlanet. But I thought I'd share it here in case any of you guys didn't know it.

Happy New Year!!!

 I ... Didn't ... Know ...That ... Either..

I just did the events, got the money and spent it on crap cars... :ouch:

Hi all, just thought i'd post a photo of my new cockpit. cost about 50 bucks. Much better than mounting the wheel onto an old saw horse, ha ha. Hopefully now when i'm swinging off the wheel, I won't be chasing the saw horse around the room.

Looks a bit rough in raw timber, but i'm gonna paint it black (photo to follow)

see ya evan

Nice job Ev, like the rake you've added for the pedals, what's the origin of the seat? ...looks like I'm going to have get to the shed and build something as my chopping board,G-clamp & coffee table combo aren't going to cut it in 2012!
In other news, I've switched to my new PS3. Word of caution if you ever switch to a new PS. Everything transferred over except no videos or saved photos that sit in those GT5 game save files (I'd imagine) came across at all during the transfer. I've tried to recover them, but no luck. Best to back them up separately I reckon. I tried to do this to an external WD HD as I went, but the new PS3 wouldn't except it as it wasn't in FAT32 PS3 friendly format. Weird.

Mick and Jas , thanks for the info guys , stuff like this is very helpful I reckon.

Ev , great job mate. I guess better control and comfort will mean you'll be even faster and consistent. Damn it ! :)

Back in Aus in around 9 days :)

Yeah good job Evan. 👍

When you described what you'd built over the mic. It's all out of 4x2 and unpainted. I pictured something in my mind that was more 'Log Cabin' in style.

That looks really good. Even more so once it's all painted it will look fantastic.

Nice Evan, my mate's built a cockpit that's almost exactly the same!

The only problem we found is that if you upgrade to pedals with a clutch you might find it hard to heel and toe rev match with the steering column between your legs.

I'm buying a new PS3 very soon as mine is region coded for Singapore, so DVD's can't be played on it, and it's only a 60GB model.

Can you connect the 2 PS3's via usb and transfer files, or do you have to put everything on a USB storage device and transfer it that way?
It's just that I've got LA Noire and several other big games on there and I'd need to buy a bigger storage device to transfer it.

I transferred all data saved on the old PS3 HD to the new PS3 using an Ethernet cable using the data transfer function in the system menu. Don't think you can go direct from USB port to USB port though this would be super handy if you could. As mentioned, what it didn’t pull across is any of the photos or videos in the GT5 game library which was strange. For me this process took quite a while to do. Firstly, it took a few goes (5) for the new receiving PS to accept the data transfer request coming from the old PS and then a good couple of hours for about 60 GB of my stuff to transfer over fully. You sit there looking at the progress percentage bar on the screen hoping the thing won't freeze!

I do note that all purchased movies, DLC and critical game save data came over ok - i was nervous with over 1000 cars!

If you only want to back-up a few images or game saves etc. You could do it bit by bit to a USB 2.0 drive plus some of these are getting pretty big now so it might do the job.

However in terms of backing up ALL existing data on your PS HDD you could back it to an external HD, just make sure it’s in FAT format (what I didn’t do) You can check whether your External HD is FAT32 by connecting it to your PC, go to Computer, right-click on the drive, choose properties then ‘Filesystem’. You can format to FAT32 pretty easily and there’s a heap of free programs out there to do this. Do be aware however, if you change to this format it will render anything else saved on the external HD as unreadable. Ah technology, as user friendly as ever! Alternatively, you could put all your PS stuff in the PSN cloud if you've got PS PLUS i think, which is what all the cool kids are doing these days.

The regional stuff, I’ve run into this before also. Basically as I understand it an Aust. purchased PS3 is region 4 / region 0 coded for SD DVDs and region B coded for Blu-Rays? Anything outside of that won’t work. In saying that, game discs aren’t affected. Also I’ve read any games /movies you’ve downloaded from a different regional accounts will work when transferred to a new PS3 BUT any DLC that you’ve added to games will sometimes be missing and would need to be updated again.

Just a quick note. I will be free Monday night to race.

Just checking too, it is N'ring GP/D which is the shortened one right?

Also, the thread has been quiet lately, hasn't it??

Hey guys sorry but I'll have to miss out this Monday nite my lil boy will be a week old then hope u all have a great time I might make it but we will see ok

Also, the thread has been quiet lately, hasn't it??

I guess we all took a decent holiday break from everything huh. :)

I'll be running some laps tomorrow afternoon, this is the one track I wanna do well in since I love this layout of the Nurburgring.

Anyone done times yet? My best is a modest 1'37.330, still 4 tenths of Stig though :grumpy: ...

Room will be up at 4pm AEST and Penalties will be switched on, and now you don't loose your spot on the leaderboard when exiting the track, practicing might be fun this time round. :dunce:
