flygja lining up to pass Kolin for 6th with a brave move around the outside of Flugplatz with King Rocket just behind

NuumlrburgringNordschleife_3_zps4f382917.jpg

Great battle between these three for the minor positions. Moments later Kolin runs wide at Metzgesfeld and King Rocket is through to 8th.

NuumlrburgringNordschleife_4_zps657a239c.jpg

Another slight off for Dark Angel allows Dan to get a run on him and pass on the approach to Wehrseifen. He later spins and Dark Angel retakes 3rd place again, only to run wide at the last chicane to let Dan reclaim 3rd as they complete lap 3

NuumlrburgringNordschleife_5_zps941eb3e8.jpg

Wheel to wheel action at Kesselchen as ANFD dradfts past lyonsy for 5th.

NuumlrburgringNordschleife_6_zps2be9efdf.jpg

JohnSchoonsBeard has clawed back the gap to Kolin who has a high speed moment at Pflazgrten allowing the pass to be made.

But at the front Ben crosses the line with a comfortable win. Gadget posts another PB with an 8:38 on his last lap, and 3rd goes to dan after a great recover drive

After a couple of practises for this weekends races, a few of us agreed that the tight Turn 1 at the Nurburg GP/D is a potential recipe for disaster with 10 or more cars all approaching from a standing start.

Any chance of a rolling start to get us safely through Turn 1 and then allowing normal racing from there, same as we do in HP's VLN 24hr and 4hr practises/races?

Fair point Gadget as it can be a bit lethal.

Edit:

We'll do a single formation lap - keep close together and then after that lap you will be able to start racing AFTER corner 1. No overtaking until then.

Just in case anyone read the previous start procedure for the Nurb GP/D race it has now been changed. See above or original post

In case I don't make the Div A race please could someone take a pic of the results and or send me the replays please? I hope to be there but may not race.

OK - here is another revision for the First race tomorrow at the Nurburgring GP/D circuit.

NURB GP/D START PROCEDURE

I may have misunderstood HP earlier about doing a rolling start. I assumed he meant a full rolling lap and a bit rather than just a bit of the first lap.

THIS is what we will do for Nurburgring only. We wait a minute to ensure everyone has got onto the track then there will be a non competitive start off the grid but not a formation lap for 1 and a bit laps. We start racing after the first corner. Follow the car in front and trundle down to the first hairpin and only once through it we accelerate and then GO GO GO.

NUMBERS RACING
The maximum that can get into the CRAP_GTP lounge is 15 because the room counts as 1 member even if it isn't present as a racer. If we only get 16 to race then the race will take place in my room. If there are more than 16 for Division A or B then we will split the race into 2 rooms between CRAP_GTP and my (JohnSchoonsBeard) lounge.

hmmm, I want too, But I shouldn't..... I need to rest for work tonight, gah, Maybe.... I don't know

If I wasn't working I would attend,

I'm really enjoying this series!

My personal report from last night Div B race.

We started the GP/D race in random order and promtly lost Gadget and JSB in the convoy to the first corner! They were there for the minute at the line, but got booted as we got to the corner. Everyone agreed that we would abort and wait for them to get back in. Turned out it may be Scott's super fast bean can and string connection :P

Once they got back in, we restarted and again in random order with a rolling start to first corner. I think I held my position for maybe two or three corners before the faster drivers caught up, lol. In any case, I fell back to the rear and had a good battle with mikeyb. He was about 10s in front and I kept gaining a second or two each lap, until I pushed too hard and lost a few seconds. Decided I wasnt going to catch up and just cruise the car home while keeping it clean and just then mikey must have had an off. I didnt even see him and smashed right into his passenger side as he rejoined the tarmac from the side. We both must had some serious damage, but it obviously cleared after a few seconds. I then managed to pull away, which must have been mikey not trying and pulling back as he was probably a second or two quicker than me.

I managed much better this time as the faster drivers lapped me, not going into the walls or kitty litter as I let others past. Holding a clean line at a slower pace is the way I think. Last week I ended up losing it as I pulled off the racing line to let other go past which threw everything else off.

Anyway I finished holding the 2nd to last place and I managed to get over the line before the three minute timeout too.

The Spa race was amazing! I bought the track pack this week so I hadnt even raced it until Thursday! Anyway, I started in 2nd position (mikey left and I think Jeff joined). This one was a green light at 1 minute and I had a cracking start off the line, on the racing line as we approached corner one. I was promptly dispatched by a little nudge from Pickle (I think) who was probably nudged by somebody else and so on. In any case, I dropped to around 8 or 9 and fair play to Pickle, he did hold back, apologised and let me retake the position, but I let him past as he wuld clearly just overtake me again. There was more carnage in the next few corners and only after half a lap or so did the cars split up.

At his point, I had dropped to last (a usual) and was having a little battle with Eyes_Fried. I think he was very new to this track too as his lines were very unusual, even from my noobie perspective. We had a little battle for a couple of laps overtaking each other as we both made mistakes, until I overdid the acceleration onto the long straight and managed to donut into the kitty litter! I lost about 10-15 seconds on that recovery and kept going. Made some recovery through the laps, but then kept overdoing the accelerator as I exited the corners and even managed to spin out and almost enter the pit lane from the EXIT!!! lol.

Managed to keep a few good clean laps and run a few consecutive personal best times and catch up to Eyes_Fried and overtake as he made a mistake. I pulled away comfortably at this point and just keep clean laps. At the end, I was about 10s ahead of Scott as he started his last lap and on his way to overtaking me. I knew I could maintain it and not get lapped if I ran a steady clean lap, but I managed to lose it almost at the last corner and went into the armco, and he managed to get past me.

So, two second to last finishes and good fun again.

Here's to more good races!

since atik put a little race report up i thought i should do the same,

div a, scooby race, it was a drop of luck starting on pole .After the first corner i just floored it and thought of the finish line, in practises i had been posting quick times and had been very consistant so fancied my chances for the win. not really much to say about the race as i didnt have any battles and the only drivers i saw was the lappies, who were proper gents and didnt hold me up at all.

the spa race was an interesting gauntlet.started in last and had a mountain to climb. this wasnt a favoured event as i wasnt posting quick laps till early hour of saturday morning\friday night.so race got on the way and i had a blinding start off the line. i had pulled through 4 places only to have to back off first corner and drop two places. i got through second and 3rd corner, got side swiped on the fourth by gtp-kolin, it was clearly an accident as he was battling another driver on the opposite side. (i have checked replay) so 3rd to last and in kitty litter marvalous. dragged myself outta kitty litter and span off next corner lol, upon waiting to rejoin track, tris had lost it, ploughed into me while spinning then faced the wrong way. sorry tris for being in the way and unlucky mate. as this wasnt caused by me i shot off and tryed to pull some time back. now being 25seconds behind leader i thought here we go... i knukkled down and quickly found my rhythem, a few cars in front had a coming together which i capitalised on, passed rice and was on the back end of knukken, drag raced past him on start finish straight and passed kolin on 2nd only for knukken to slipstream passed me on the long straight, stayed in his boot while we caught the king rocket and lyonzy who were dueling it out, on lap 3 i had passed knukken on 3rd corner after he overshot his braking point, then i was on the bumper of the rocket, on the last corner lyonsey had gone tight to the inside and rocket stayed wide and couldnt find traction on the exit and knukken in my boot i managed to out drag them to the first corner lap 4, a few corners later i had broke free and was closing gadget at 2 seconds a lap as he had managed to break free of the carnage, lap 5 i was closing gadget at a steady rate, knukken had broke free and was in hot pursuit but he wasnt lapping quick enough to catch me.by lap 9 gadgets lead was down to a second, thought to my self keep the pressure on and wait for a mistake or a spot were i can pass. had a few looks but nothing really safe. lap 10, dragged past him after first corner and got through second almost perfectly, and started to build a lead, i could see i was coming up to lap kolin who had been taken out earlier in the race. lap 11 i had a second lead and just thought of lapping consistantly, kolin had pulled up on the side of the road, thought thanks for letting me past only for him to spend the rest of the race there, by the finish line i had built a 10 second lead on gadget who finished second.

at the end of the event i couldnt believe i had won both of them, and started to look forward to div b in the evening, my only thought was allendk29 would be there but as he cant get any dlc's in his region i only had the gp\d race to worry about

OK, take a deep breath...this is a long post. Lots to report on and show with pics.

NuumlrburgringGP_D_7_zps75636f48.jpg

Gadget makes a move down the inside the final turn to move past Dark Angel and into 8th. Hmmmm...this is all sounding a bit 'It's all about ME' but hell, I'm writing this, and I DID do a lot of overtaking in the early laps...so deal with it!! :)

Lap 3

Dan and Gadget are now locked in an intense battle. Their laptimes are very evenly matched and quicker than all but Scott and Kev up at the front so their progress through the field looks set to continue.

Lap 10

NuumlrburgringGP_D_20_zpsab166ee8.jpg

NuumlrburgringGP_D_33_zpsee552a72.jpg

....and holds 3rd for the rest of the lap, but Dan doesn't give up and drafts back ahead on the run to T1 to start the final lap which he holds…just….to the chequered flag. Great dice!

NuumlrburgringGP_D_34_zpsb289bafa.jpg

Tris just holds off Mark for 6th.

NuumlrburgringGP_D_35_zpsa0adcb38.jpg

But the deserved and comfortable winner is Scott, aka ‘i-was-ere’. He might have lucked into a pole position in the random grid, but he was the fastest man on track throughout the race and well worthy of the victory.

From my side, without doubt it was the most enjoyable CRAP race I’ve participated in to date. 4th might not be my best result, but the fight through the field from 13th, wheel to wheel with some great drivers who are hard but fair and give you room to race, was an absolute joy. Special respect to Dan who I spent 2/3rds of the race chasing and battling with. The result almost didn't matter in the end….just the fun of the chase 👍

Just to add to that one Fly was disconnected from Div A race 3 at Nutb GP/D so gets a point for 13th.

Great report again Steve.

In addition the result of the other race needs to include that Lyonzy-94 disconnected after Kolin parked up.
I think 1 or for Kolin and 2 for Lyon.

Final Race Results 15 laps

I have been doing some testing of performance online as a few races have been very laggy recently. To try and give people a better experience we may try something different this weekend.

We may run the races in an open room with me as fixed owner of the room using my newly fast connection and possibly a better race quality setting. That will reduce the strain on individual connections and may help minimise lag.

I did a test a few days ago with 10 in a public room using fixed room ownership. This means I become the server for everyone rather than all of us uploading to all other drivers simultaneously. The race quality was set at "Very Good" and there was absolutely no lag at all. If it fails with a full room (or less) we can still go back to the CRAP_GTP lounge.

My connection is 79.9mb down and 20mb up. Obviously this is only of use when I'm on but maybe others have similar connections.

We can meet / practice in the CRAP_GTP lounge as usual, then I will set the room up in public and inform everyone when they can click on my dot to follow me.

The proviso to this is that if I am not around (baby on the way?) then the race will take place as before in CRAP_GTP
