Patch 1.10 - new single player mode "GT League"

Supporting the game with updates and content a month post release is a PR move? What a joke.

The biggest problems with the game is content. One could argue the online saving and perhaps the penalty system, but as far as addressing the problems people have been vocal about, this update is a great step. It brings a single player campaign mode, adds a handful of new and anticipated cars, and verbally addresses the issue of tracks and mentions 50 more cars scheduled to be released.

Considering the many complaints about lack of single player content at release, yes, it is a PR move. It accelerated the timeline of which the updates would be put out.

Some will because it addresses a key issue they had with he launch title. I don't really see why that's deserving of ridicule at all.

For others its not going to make a difference at all, personally what PD need to do to get me back doesn't revolve around fixing single player, however if they fix those areas I will play it more, if they don't I won't.

See, that's the thing. Chances are. I'll probably buy GT Sport when it's slashed in price during Christmas / Boxing Day. But I'm still cognizant of the fact that things need to change, and content updates aren't going to cut it. Sure, it might placate the fans, but it doesn't get at the root of the problems that continue to plague GT. Especially in the face of stiffer competition in the console sim racing market.

You have to crawl before you walk, walk before you run. Baby steps buddy.

I know it’s not been mentioned in the original article, but does anyone think there maybe any adjustments made to the god awful penalty system during this patch?

This isn't a case of fixing the problems present within the game and having things cut out well. This is a case of things that are fundamentally wrong with how Polyphony and by extension the GT franchise operates. The competition has exposed said problems with how the company develops, operates, and treats its fans and by extension, sim racing. And yet Polyphony won't respond, instead sticking to what has worked for them. Sure, it might make them the top dog in terms of sales, but I have more fun driving and racing in stuff like PCARS 2 and Assetto Corsa then I do in GT gamesi n it's current form. What worked in 2010, hell, in 2005, doesn't work anymore.

GT's twenty years old.

That would seem to be rather slow development, and some of the issues I have with it have been around for at least half that time.

Exactly. It's ignoring the underlying issues with the gameplay loop, and how it hasn't evolved since arguably the PS1 days. It's still apparent in the career mode that is in this update.

There was really no single player campaign mode?? Holy moly.

I got the game on launch day but spent too long installing updates, couldn't access full game, and have only gotten a couple hours of play in. :banghead:

That doesn't matter anymore.

Until you finish all driving schools events, and get your familiar with the revamped physics of GT Sport up to the real racing experience with real drivers (so people like you and me), you get the more contents you seek.

You haven't even started to play the game! lol

And for the first time ever you get a full fledged Livery Editor to play with, with hundreds of extra (downloadable) liveries to choose from and a top notch Photo mode with 1000+ different locations, so you can make a nice picture from your modded car.

So, just relax and enjoy the game. ;)

As someone stated before, PD didn't just whip up this GT League in the month since release. They probably had this planned and been working on it for at least a few months.

And it's not an "accelerated timeline" it's been a month since release and they keeping up with their promise of keeping the game updated and new content coming. Theyre listening to the consumers and their fans and adding things to satisfy them. So what, any update or new content to Gran Turismo is a "PR move"? That's ridiculous.

Not to mention you just stated you don't own the game. It sounds more like to me you're just trying to get a rise out of people who see that this is a great step for the game.

Is it not fixing problems? I'm not quite sure what you mean by what's 'fundamentally wrong'. Single player was asked for, and we're getting it whether that means it was already planned or a response, so that's another step towards what we need to be in there.

I thought GTS was starting anew so I was basing that statement around that.

It could be that I'm a GT fan that is tired of the way that Polyphony shifts priorities to chase trends and operates, and wants them to change. You can look through my posts and see that the points I'm making I identified in the summer and before then. And that my feelings have not changed.

Content is probably the biggest issue GT Sport faces right now, and they've already started to address that with this update so far. They aren't that far behind the competition as many seem to think, as Forza, PC2, and AC have their own share of issues that many people are unhappy about.

Fine and that's one thing, I'm really not all that concerned with your choices to or to not buy the game. That's you're decision and you make it based on whatever reasoning you deem valid.

But to call this update a PR move is laughable. That's my argument to you.

Well, they sold us a great racing platform and graphics engine as some of us suspected, content will come along the way. Happy to see they are still not charging us for it, even if I personally dislike the Day one update trend. The lack of a campaign mode for a month surely made us all try GtSport, didn't it? :sly:
Now...when are they gonna give me Fangio's Mercedes from the intro? When? :D That Samba bus has like 18 windows, they could have modelled two Alfettas in that time

That depends on what a persons issues are, mine is with the physics and issues that have been around since title one.

Now they were acceptable back then due to the limits of the platforms, but some of them that are still around since the start of the PS3 era are really not acceptable for me .

I like the concept that GTS offers, but the physics are a good five years behind the curve now.

Very happy with the update, mostly happy with GT Mode as there isn't really a lot to do apart from race online.

The vehicle content I would agree has to have been long planned.

The change to always online and the career stuff however has all the hallmarks of a quick turnaround to address main areas of complaint. Nothing in those two areas could not have been in place for launch or would have been time consuming to develop.

So some does certainly have the appearance of PR damage management.

Can't stop the circlejerk I guess.

Come on in bro - the water's just fine!

So they fixed some of the bigger issues that people have had with the game so they can sell more copies. But at the same time it has nothing to do with said complaints?

I’m rather confused at this point.

They fixed the issues to make more money, did some consumer complaints get addressed? Yes, but lets not act like a bunch of whiners are the heroes here. PD was never going to just let GT Sport be what it was when they released it and never add more single player content regardless of what keyboard warriors wanted. In this instance, the consumers get what they want. When people crying about not having every single classic track get what they want, then I'll admit I'm wrong and PD is really out to appease everyone first and make money second. Until then, I stand by what I said in that PD is doing turn a higher profit (which, I am very ok with, not sure I have made that clear)

I will never understand PD priority when adding new cars. How this: Volkswagen Samba Bus Type 2 (T1) is more important than many other great cars, I will never get it. xD
Eccentric Kaz at his best. But this is me , who refuses to drive a vision and fantasy car, let alone a bus.
