"1. A new single plater mode, the “GT League”, will be added to the game. This is a single player game mode including several series of races that appeared in the past GT game titles, including fan favourites such as the “Sunday Cup”, ”Clubman Cup”, ”FF Challenge”, etc., in which players can participate with a wide variety of cars that can be tuned"

Tuned?! I hope it's not just mileage points.

It probably is. It seems unlikely PD would add the traditional aftermarket parts approach without giving it a mention at all.

On the plus side, it means there might actually be a point to upgrading your car's tuning parameters via Mi now. Currently, there really isn't outside of personal Arcade/Custom events.

Offline career?

:D :D

It’s kinda wild how there’s people out there that wanted GT to go back to the traditional “GT mode” style of things back when it was announced that there wouldn’t be a normal single player, but now that that normal single player is a thing now, you’re criticising GT of following the same formula for the last 20 years.

y’all need to choose something to criticise man

It's human nature, to complain. Even when you give them what they want.

Going silent? Promising a fix-all patch is on the way for... how long is it now?

I thought people wanted PD to communicate more, not less.

You're not criticizing the update, you're ranting about PD.

It could be a PR move. It's not definite.

As a comparison: FM7 launched with a few of its features intentionally turned off by T10. The Auction House, Forzathon, etc etc. When I talked to Dan last month at the Porsche event, he explained why that was: players can be utterly overwhelmed by choice in modern games. FM6 launched with all the online hoppers and classes available from day one, and while that's a good thing in terms of choice, it's bad in the sense it splinters the online player base. He explained the long-term plan was to slowly offer more and more online hoppers over the coming months, so people can explore them at a more relaxed clip, and — crucially — it means more players in every hopper at any given time.

GT Sport is in a similar position. Arguably more so: PD has pushed the online-competition narrative for what feels like ages now. Launching the way it did made players practically have to explore Sport Mode — and surely, some folks were turned off by it, but there were also those that found they liked it. Had a traditional GT mode been in from day one, how many people would have stuck with what they were comfortable with?

Same goes with the cars: they follow the more traditional GT approach, and we'll see how they fit into the class structure. But having them introduced now means players had to focus on the current lineup. In many ways, that's a good thing.

PD and Sony have tons of data about the player base. Far more than you or I do. Whether this was planned from the get-go, or a sharp right turn after the backlash from some vocal corners of the community, it's unlikely we'll ever know for sure. It's very, very unlikely the team didn't already know some of that blowback was going to happen, however. That said, grafting what looks like a career largely similar to GT6's basic structure on isn't the sort of time-suck modelling a car is. One could also argue that if this was the plan all along, PD probably would've mentioned more about it leading up to release, as it would've assuaged the fears of the traditionalists.

I think, now more than ever, the strength of the console sim racing market is in the diversity. GTS, FM7, and PCARS2 (as well as AC, WRC 7, DiRT — you get the idea) all offer quite different experiences these days. Certainly more so than, say, GT5/6 and FM4 did.
Careful! It's not vs thread remember? ;) Just pulling your chain, man. This update is a step in the right direction. It also confirms that fears about paying for extra content can be put to rest, at least for this batch. Good going PD, keep it up though.

Players will still need to be online in order to save any progress, both through the Campaign Mode and any Achievements, but participation is no longer server-dependent.

So then what's the point? Am I supposed to keep the game open all day and not do anything else on my console while, say, waiting for the internet connection to go up again? This also prevents people from progressing in areas where there's no internet access period, essentially blocking them from the game

This doesn't fix anything PD, still not buying

First, great news, :) I wrote the other day that PD not giving out any future plans, or listening to users concerns smacked of arrogance, this at least gives some idea of their plans until March at least and they may be listening.

Now as a player/observer, rather than the GT fanatic I used to be, it looks like a slight panic/PR move to me. Call me a cynic, whiner or whatever, but they have been saying there was no offline career mode for a very long time, and suddenly something similar to that appears so quickly. It looks to me that they released the game with the emphasize on the online racing, and while that may or may not be popular, for a lot of users there is not a lot of game there if not playing online. I've never seen so many GT games on the pre-owned shelves so soon after release in the game shops near me. Only PD know how many they have sold, and how many are still playing the game. That is one thing the online saving gives them, a very accurate number of users. My guess is that numbers may be down a lot on what they may have hoped. It is pure speculation though of course.

I don't like the use of the word 'free' in the release about the updates. I thought all the updates were going to be free, or did I misread that somewhere. Saying free may be telling those that don't know that the content is indeed free of course, but it also allows the option for updates not to be free at some point. Paying for DLC is a way a lot of companies make their money.

As for the car list, mm, why add cars that have no equivalent to race against! At least release two similar cars for at least a customisable race.

Great that they are doing updates, great that they are telling us some of their plans, great that the updates are free. But it seems like a big change in direction so quickly after release.

I bought a PS4 just to play GT Sport, so anything that enhances what they released is most welcome. I look forward to the updates as soon and as often as possible. :D

My PS4 is wired and I'm just getting fed up of me being the only one starting at the beginning of a race or cars rubber banding and wipe you out

The vehicle content I would agree has to have been long planned.

The change to always online and the career stuff however has all the hallmarks of a quick turnaround to address main areas of complaint. Nothing in those two areas could not have been in place for launch or would have been time consuming to develop.

So some does certainly have the appearance of PR damage management.

I think we will have to wait to see how well ot is integrated into the game design before we will know whether its a damage limigation move or was always planned. How will it for example fit into achievements and trophies - especially wins as they slways seemed very high numbers to achieve in Sports mode alone.

Saw this in my Google News feed.

I thought great, they've added single player and done something new with it. Perfect, maybe It'll be a game for me in the end. 'GT League' sounded like they'd come up with a better approach to it, something in line with the rest of the new approach, more in line with a professional racing career. But then I see the screenshots. Excitement gone. It appears to be just the GT1-6 career copy pasted yet again, but with huge limitations from the car and track list, mostly the latter. Sunday Cup, FF Cup. Pick from a list, rinse repeat. Yawn. It even has the same icons, same logos, and exact same format as GT6 with beginner/amateur/pro/endurance.

Yes, I'm a single player person and wanted a substantial single player content. However, I wanted something new, not a copy paste of the same old tired format. That's ultimate laziness, and stinks of them just throwing something together in a couple of months because they foolishly thought they could get away without including it at all.

So thanks PD, but no thanks. Come up with something fresh and interesting and I might be tempted to buy it.
