For all we know, this could have been a Plan B just in case the heavy online focus wasn’t well-received (which it arguably hasn’t).

This has me wondering, even if it were a Plan B wouldn't they release it anyways? Be an odd thing to sit around on and not do anything with it. Not that I'm saying they developed the whole thing and waited to press the 'Go' button.

The vehicle content I would agree has to have been long planned.

The change to always online and the career stuff however has all the hallmarks of a quick turnaround to address main areas of complaint. Nothing in those two areas could not have been in place for launch or would have been time consuming to develop.

So some does certainly have the appearance of PR damage management.
And granted, even if it was something they've cooked up relatively quickly after release, it looks pretty good! It has the nostalgia look of old GT that is sure to stir some feelings with those missing the feature. For myself, offline play wasn't really that big of a deal to me, but this looks like a job well done of the feature for those who have been waiting for it.

To me, it's answering the calls of their fan base and listening to what the people want, I guess you could consider that "PR management", but even if it is, so what? Is it a bad thing that we're getting a response from PD? To me it shows investment and care for their product and fans. It's been about a month and we're getting a pretty good update with this, that is free to boot! I don't see this update as anything but a positive for the game, call itPR management or not.

The lack of a campaign mode for a month surely made us all try GtSport, didn't it? :sly:

You know what, I bet that's exactly what this whole fiasco was about. It was to starve us of offline content so we'd have no choice but to break in our online nerves and get more people in online races. I mean they definitely converted me from an offline racer to an online racer.

The side effect though, is that the online times are way more competitive than the offline goals, so I don't know how much of a challenge these offline game modes are going to be. Either way, it'll be fun just to have more content in general.

im just like you, I haven't even bothered with the legacy campaign mode since sport mode got it's hooks into me.

This just made my day, week, month, and Thanksgiving!!! F40, Rx-7, Countach, and etc. This game just hit a lot better!! Project Cars 2 was released first out of “the big 3” and still has not released any additional content yet. Not a good look SMS.

You do realize that they give you a dozen of FREE cars??? some people man... Forza would charge you 24.99€ for this DLC...

Sorry but Silverstone, De La Sarthe and other REAL tracks is far more critical, prioritized and supposed to be available in day 1. I know Samba Bus is also legendary car but no. Why they have time to model a Samba Bus? Why not a real track?

/rant

In your opinion. If it was me i'd prioritize cars instead of tracks. And those tracks will come eventually.

Sorry, not an opinion. We are tend to race with almost same/similar cars rather than tracks, or what car using which track. Tracks have more chances to be used differently than cars.

And considering what SMS have been doing

Going silent? Promising a fix-all patch is on the way for... how long is it now?

I thought people wanted PD to communicate more, not less.

Until a mod comes in and says otherwise, I'm fairly certain I have the right to criticize this update.

You're not criticizing the update, you're ranting about PD.

Considering the many complaints about lack of single player content at release, yes, it is a PR move. It accelerated the timeline of which the updates would be put out.

It could be a PR move. It's not definite.

As a comparison: FM7 launched with a few of its features intentionally turned off by T10. The Auction House, Forzathon, etc etc. When I talked to Dan last month at the Porsche event, he explained why that was: players can be utterly overwhelmed by choice in modern games. FM6 launched with all the online hoppers and classes available from day one, and while that's a good thing in terms of choice, it's bad in the sense it splinters the online player base. He explained the long-term plan was to slowly offer more and more online hoppers over the coming months, so people can explore them at a more relaxed clip, and — crucially — it means more players in every hopper at any given time.

GT Sport is in a similar position. Arguably more so: PD has pushed the online-competition narrative for what feels like ages now. Launching the way it did made players practically have to explore Sport Mode — and surely, some folks were turned off by it, but there were also those that found they liked it. Had a traditional GT mode been in from day one, how many people would have stuck with what they were comfortable with?

Same goes with the cars: they follow the more traditional GT approach, and we'll see how they fit into the class structure. But having them introduced now means players had to focus on the current lineup. In many ways, that's a good thing.

PD and Sony have tons of data about the player base. Far more than you or I do. Whether this was planned from the get-go, or a sharp right turn after the backlash from some vocal corners of the community, it's unlikely we'll ever know for sure. It's very, very unlikely the team didn't already know some of that blowback was going to happen, however. That said, grafting what looks like a career largely similar to GT6's basic structure on isn't the sort of time-suck modelling a car is. One could also argue that if this was the plan all along, PD probably would've mentioned more about it leading up to release, as it would've assuaged the fears of the traditionalists.

Sure, it might placate the fans, but it doesn't get at the root of the problems that continue to plague GT. Especially in the face of stiffer competition in the console sim racing market.

I think, now more than ever, the strength of the console sim racing market is in the diversity. GTS, FM7, and PCARS2 (as well as AC, WRC 7, DiRT — you get the idea) all offer quite different experiences these days. Certainly more so than, say, GT5/6 and FM4 did.

I bet that they are working on La Sarthe at this very moment.

And I can't see any reason why the car modeler who finished the Samba bus would have to wait with releasing it until the track modelers are done with La Sarthe.

Swift Sport?! Now, I'll buy the game. I'm sure the Honda Fit will be in. I'll be doing this:

I’m sure they would have. To be fair, Kaz did say more offline content would be coming, but I was expecting something similar to seasonal events. But after hyping up the online racing for this game, it’s pretty shocking to see PD adding a proper career mode just one month after release.

If reception of the original idea of GTS was better, they may have decided to put it off for several more months or so.

Bravo PD! 👍 And I have been one of your biggest sceptics since the details of GT Sport were announced - based on your previous track record. But you got to give credit where credit is due. Keep it coming and bring some new real tracks into the mix and I will definitely consider buying.

Love to see the detail up close of the F40 in 4K hdr. That will be a feast for the eyes. And don't forget to post pics of it fellow GTPlanetiers

It’s kinda wild how there’s people out there that wanted GT to go back to the traditional “GT mode” style of things back when it was announced that there wouldn’t be a normal single player, but now that that normal single player is a thing now, you’re criticising GT of following the same formula for the last 20 years.

y’all need to choose something to criticise man

Pleasantly surprised of how quick all this 'extra' content has come from PD.
PD isn't known for listening to it's fans but we wanted better sounds and we got it, we wanted offline and we will have it, we wanted more single player and we have it too!

Bit disappointed that there are no new tracks announced so far but great stuff all together so quickly.

Oh an did i see it mentioned the F40 is coming... :P:P:P
