The only penalties that still work are when a car crashes into you then a wall, and even those rarely trigger anymore. Shortcut penalties still work, for as far as you can call it working. Track limits still weird, actually getting a short cut penalty is still a lottery. Wall riding penalties are more consistent as well as hitting a wall head on. For the rest, punt away!
Most of the races are still clean though. Penalties are only needed for the really bad cases. It's much nicer now people don't get pissed from accidental penalties, yet you also get to deal with actual dirty people rising up to sr.s :/

Yeah if you're up against him you should be running him off the track regardless of whether or not you're going to get a penalty. Or at least baiting him into sending himself off trying to get you.

Haven't tried the game with the new system, is the game taking SR points from people who crash? If it does, then even without the penalties it weeds out the problematic guys. That's how I think it should work. Minimal or none time penalties from crashes, but harsh SR penalties from it. I would even go as far as bar people from FIA races if they go below 50 or 60 in SR, but I understand why they will never do that.

The new system is bugged, contact penalties are virtually non-existent. It's nearly impossible to lose SR now, everyone will be in SR.S soon. I used a trick to reset to SR.E earlier and I was the only SR.E in the room, no SR.D either, 2 SR.C, nothing lower to match with. Second room already matched with SR.S
That's the only way, you can't hurt his SR anymore. You won't get a penalty either. It's up to the people in the race to 'correct' bad behavior.
Wall and shortcut penalties still work. Feigning an attack to make him crash himself into a wall or a shortcut is the only way to get him penalties, yet still no SR loss. We're stuck with the bad apples until the next patch.

It doesn't take anything from anyone now.
So, I did a few B races tonight at Lago Maggiore and somehow I can't shake the feeling that what PD really is doing with this new "penalty system" is basically giving us the finger. It feels like they have finally had enough of all the complaining and whining and they're telling us to 🤬 off already. Remember, it's a Japanese company. It is a very different culture. We have insulted them with our complaints and this is their way of making us regret it. They've removed almost all penalties except for track cutting. That can not be accidental. Now you can do whatever the 🤬 you want and you will end up with a blue SR. And trust me, I know what I'm talking about. I've been in like 12 races with one guy (a well known french dirty player) just tonight. He was taking people out left and right. He personally took me out in, I think, 3 of them without any penalty given to either one of us. So I think PD is just trying to make us beg for any penalty system because it would be better then what we have (or don't have?) now.

As much as I hate to say it, if that's really the case that's the kind of arrogance that kills a product. I'm hoping shutting everything off was a bandaid while they figure things out. Giving their customer base the finger has killed more than one tech company.

Just got back on for the evening, now it's dirty.... Hmm, one more of this and mr nice guy is going on holiday.
Yep, confirmed, dirty driver in SR.S, thanks KP, now I won't feel bad when something happens to him next race. A script that retrieves driver's average SR before the race start would be helpful to figure out who is clean and who will ram you off when you try to pass.

Ramming everyone, couldn't keep it on the road but made sure to side swipe anyone who tried to pass his off road excursions. He rammed me 3 times, I finally managed to escape when he was ghosted on the middle straight after ramming the wall again. He side swiped right through me I saved the replay, should check out how he got the 3 penalties to drop to 81 SR. (Or maybe two, couldn't have collected many SR up arrows the way he was driving)

Although we call it physics with respect to driving games, in terms of academic subjects it's more engineering than physics. Car manufacturers will recruit engineers rather than physicists to work on the things that the game models. Also, I'm not sure the game's physics has been worked on all that extensively in recent years? It's possible the bulk of the model that is in the game was developed many years ago by someone who no longer works for the company. Anyway, they either have someone with the right skills, but someone higher up is failing to assign that person to work on the penalty system, or they don't have anyone with the right skills.
I just watched Oceania Nations Top Split on Cody's stream - not a single penalty for anyone all race, despite a massive L1T1 pile up and lots of other incidents in the rest of the race.

I haven't raced a ton since the update a few days ago but I have done one A race and a handful of B races. My conclusion is that people are just saying 🤬 it and proceeding to play bumper cars. I've seen some very dirty driving in the races I've run the last few days. In B/S lobbies. I can't imagine what the carnage is like in lower DR lobbies.
Somehow, I've managed to have a streak of 7 CRBs since the update. I'm out there trying to race clean and being successful at it. I see a good share of other guys too that are trying to drive respectfully but there's a lot of guys slammin' and rammin' now.
I'm disgusted with what I see on track in GTS since this latest update. I wish everyone would drive respectfully but hardly anyone is now. It's just gross!
After the B race I just got done with, I'm done with Sport Mode races till they change the penalty system again. I hate seeing guys just slamming into each other just because they can. I don't want to race in an environment like that.

I love that guy , he punted me two races in a row in the hairpin , each time from way back . I said to hell with it and i proceeded to take him out each time i could and to add some spice into it , i waited until the last corner of the last lap so he wouldnt recover

WOW that's big cinema. He drove the whole time completely over his limit. He got nearly no corner right. Totally overmotivated and dirty. Here everything is wrong, so i have no hope that something will change over time. It seems he is not willing to learn and to adopt to a more sensible driving style. It is this type of player that spoils our races. Put these players in their own race and let the clean drivers dirve their race.

Agree and just as I feared. I completed 5 B races yesterday evening and while the majority of drivers were well behaved, the 'kids' were out in force and it was like a demolition derby at times. I overtook one driver cleanly on the first left hand bend and after that he made it his mission to drive me off the track, which he did by shunting my rear bumper. Some people just have to win at all costs, whereas I am quite content to have gained say 5 places on my grid position.
This happens in real life also. The morons will see the growler badge, the testosterone kicks in and their beaten up old Corsa comes flying past, just so they can tell their mates that they 'did' the Jag, probably howling like hyena's over their eighth lager top.
Many players seem to adapt their behavior to the new penalty system. Saturday is usually the cleanest day.
But the races today are definitely dirtier than the races yesterday. The extremely hard defense is definitely back. Some players do everything they can to avoid being overtaken, even if it slows them down heavily. I'm excited to see how the situation develops.

Absolutely right. But the system was broken before. How can such a driver achieve 898 victories with his behavior? That's incredible. This number shows me that the system was previously too easy to misuse.

That's the fault of DR resets. Without out these fast wreckers would be racing each other. Thanks to DR resets they get mixed in with the slower crowd to enjoy easy prey. DR resets is what keeps that behavior so rewarding. Let there be full rooms of A+/C to A/E drivers, keep them out of the way from the ones still learning the game.
Tanking your SR a bit was the best way to get victories. Perhaps they will give up now they can't 'hide' anymore. They are rarely getting victories now since the room soon turns on them when they try it again. No more luxury of disappearing in the vast bulk of DR.D drivers, now they get matched with the same people again next race and face the consequences.
The best way to fix matchmaking is not to fill the left over spots of the D/S room with the highest DR from SR.A, yet fill it with the slowest DR. Then let he fastest SR.A battle it out with other SR.A or even the fastest of SR.B. Having lower SR should not be a benefit getting you easier races.
In reality, it is not the updates to the penalty system that is the problem. It is the sheer number of dirty drivers/racers out there in this world. If you have all clean drivers in a race, I doubt there would be any complaints about the updated penalty system, at all. However, with the sheer number of dirty drivers who are drooling at the mouth as they take full advantage of this update, it is turning into keystone cops (a comedy) on the circuits. This is the reason I have NO interest in online racing. I can not tolerate dirty, dishonest drivers.

To elaborate, most esport focused games only show ranks to friends and to all players on that session / race after each of that competitive session (or in GTSport case, Sport Mode Race) has concluded.
The fact that the ranks is shown in each profile publicly (to be shamed at if the ranks is low or to be envy at if its high) without any settings to hide it is pretty baffling and quite effective to scare away players from touching Sport Mode.

Yeah, Im boycotting racing until this is fixed. I know I screw up alot, and for that I should get punished, but Im not like these cats. Meanwhile, Im gonna find out how many cars I can barrelroll down Mount Panorama, the physics on some low-tier cars are amazing, frontflips and stuff.

I started a new account and it amazes me that ghosting seems to work in the lower ranks, spinning out or other dangerous situations.
Why not have that working in the higher ranks?
