Perfect Balance's cars | Small update| 05/03/14

Great stuff đź‘Ť

Alignment always transforms the way a car feels. I've not yet owned a car that didn't need aligning after I bought it. Always go from "hmm, not sure I should have bought this" to "hey, actually this isn't that bad..."

What did you set the caster at? I'm going in for a real alignment in a couple weeks and I think I'm going -3.5 camber, 1/2* toe out, 8* caster. That's for an S14 though, I think that caster would be high for an S13.

My caster isn't adjustable at the moment so I didn't even bother doing a caster sweep. I just set the steering wheel straight and didn't touch it after that. I imagine its somewhere between 6-8. That's a lot of caster for any car, but it's pretty common to see numbers like that on S chassis.

Cesar, I don't really have the funds for tires. I'm hoping if those front tires got me through 4 events on an eyeball alignment, that they'll get me through one more with a good one. I might swap them left to right at some point, even though that will be running them backwards, the right hand bank just eats up the inside of the right tire.

Even without the crazy wheel fitment and aero you would typically see on these, this car still looks awesome... especially when it's going sideways.

LOL at your quote in the vid. "That power changes everything."

Makes me reminisce the first event I did going from KA to SR. Third gear is actually useable, and fourth gear can be done. I do turn six at sears point in fourth, but it starts to feel like you need more power again at that point.

Well third was useable before, just required speed and lots of throttle. Now 3rd is a part throttle gear. That actually wasn't me talking, that was my brother in law in the passenger seat. He helped me do the swap.

Thanks for the comments though everyone. Here is the "official" video for the event. I'm in it for a few seconds immediately after the "air guitar" scene.

Well, no updates on my car, other than I've got another event under my belt. Got comfortable with 3rd gear on the banked corner and the mid-transition upshift to third. Next thing on the left is trying to manji the straights between the turns.

Buuuut. The car needs front tires, they were slicks two events ago, it needs a left rear axle shaft and new wheels bearings on the rear. Brakes are getting low too. I'm trying to upgrade my daily driver car so everything is kind of on hold right now. That being said, I've got a new video finishing up and will be going on Youtube overnight, and heres a picture. Or two.

Excuse the drift spares. Drove home on those because I destroyed the ones on my normal wheels. They look cool from the side though, but the fitment sucks.

Video will be going up soon as the video finishes uploading.

EDIT: And here's my video!

Well, in the upcoming weeks I will be replacing my daily driver with a new one, getting a really good deal from a person I know. Here's a horrible teaser.

To make it a less horrible teaser, I'll just say it's a Stillen front lip for something.

And just to whore out my car:

Stillen front lip huh? You've struck me curious with that hint. I can't watch the vimeo link through the app but I'm keen to have a look when I get home đź‘Ť

Really nice - it's great seeing not just your car develop, but your technique too. Vids are getting better and better.

Intrigued by the new daily. Not even sure I knew what the last one was.

Dude you had the sickest drift in that video. That transition looked too smooth.

New daily a Nissan Maxima?
Thanks guys. Yeah, new daily is going to be a Nissan Maxima. Not saying which generation, and the car will need some bodywork and paint to be nice, but I'm getting a heck of a deal for what it is. It's not a stock Maxima ;)

Best looking car there by far. Also, dat Ford truck, awesome
Thanks. The Ford Truck was essentially a Mustang Cobra underneath. Brakes, engine, drivetrain, but I think the suspension was from something else, since it still sat on the truck frame. Unfortunately the driver wasn't that great, but then again it's not really a good vehicle for that either.

Thanks. Yeah the new engine helps a lot with things. I'm still learning, and my biggest issue is finding the balls to try things I'm not comfortable with. Fortunately so far everything has been "easier than I thought it was going to be" but I'm still scared on some things.

Don't tell me it's the one that has already made cameos here. If it is, I am extremely jealous. Actually, if it's just a V6 Max with a stick I'm jealous so hey.

Ummm. Well, it is that same Maxima, but with less turbo. Doesn't mean it doesn't still spin second gear with 235 summers and an LSD trans. ;) No good pics of the car at the moment. Still needs a lot of work, including bodywork from hitting a mailbox a few years ago, and the hood painted because the old one had a hole in it to clear the z manifold. But, that being said, I did install the lip yesterday. And connected the seat heaters.

For those who don't really know about this car. It's a 96 Maxima with a vq35 swap from a 03z. The engine actually came out of a wrecked z, not a newer Maxima so it has the z intake manifold and slightly larger injectors, ect. Paired to a 6 speed lsd trans, and a few bolt ones, downpipe, exhaust, IM spacer, intake. The entire front suspension with steering rack and everything is iirc 02 Maxima stuff. Tein coilovers, 06 Altima SE-R brakes, and a whole bunch of random things. Like 02 Maxima Climate Control behind a I30 dash. Or the 350z cluster that the engine came out of. Or 03 Maxima heater leather power seats. It all works, somehow....
