I did, I thought the intro part definitely is not just a flat photo but while racing they appear to be flat... could be simple pyramid geometry though, hard to tell due to how far away they are and how little the viewing angle changes relative.

The background mountains (Eiger, Münch & Jungfrau) are full 3D, they dont change after the intro from GTHD. PD was very proud about it back then.

^ That pic looks great for an epic open world fantasy game but this is a racing sim

That sounds like an excuse to me for the quality of the background. :indiff: You are basically saying that it shouldn't be in a racing simulator because it doesn't look real. Guess what, it is real.

The backgrounds in forza are clearly better than GT's but they don't appear to be real because of forza's failed lighting engine. The colors are just too saturated and the contrast is too high. Looks good in a game, but it's not realistic at all.

Forza clearly go for more detailed backgrounds/less detailed cars while GT does the exact opposite. Which approach I prefer? GT's for sure. The epic lighting engine also helps.

I doubt that was a typical Forza fans trolling since the Grand Canyon track in GT4P and his sentence makes no sense because Forza3 has a lot of 2D backgrounds:

I'm not quite sure what that blurry blob is. But the section that is highlighted IS 2-D. Also the mountains in the far far background are aswell.

This part is not....

alright soo I just played the forza3 demo yesterday and these are some things I noticed:
It does look good, might not be as photorealistic as GT5P, BUT after Playing GT5P afterwards I couldn't help but cry about the poor aliasing this game delivers. Forza looks really smooth compared to that.

While browsing through youtube, I found a comparison HD video between GT5 prologue and Forza 3 demo. Sit back and enjoy... 👍

Without sounding too biased as it is a Gran Turismo forum, but all jokes aside I think GT5P looks better. Not by much, but enough to give me that opinion.

Forza 3 looks great, but it looks more like a high quality cartoon while GT5P looks very photo realistic. Kind of sad considering the Forza 3 demo is really what the final product will be like, and GT5P was just a test/beta that was released nearly 2 years ago.

Ingame there is no comparison. The models that Forza guys were pushing as ingame were not true. The actual ingame pictures are pretty awful. In Forza you only see the high quality models in the menus and photomode. Event hen they are behind GT.

GT5P has 4x AA compared to Forza 3's 2xAA in 720p. :)

I do not believe GT5P has 4xAA everywhere. Sure in some circumstances and resolutions, but not during 1080p 60fps gameplay it doesn't.

Also, the models in Forza are the same ones they showed before the demo was out (obviously the real ones, not the bullshots).

But they're only there until the camera is more than 30cm from the car, then they're back to a much-lower detail car. There should be a gif of a Porsche losing all it's detail floating around here somewhere that illustrates this.

those graphics are abysmal, even shift looks nicer.

Hey let's be fair. I know this is a GT forum bias is expected but come on. I played the shift demo yesterday and even though it runs in 30fps (would be nice to have confirmation here) and the landscape is comparable to forza's, the cars are clearly worse. Stuff pops in and out as the car get's closer or move further away, really low resolution textures in the car, even less polygons then forza. Your opponent's wheels are an octagon ffs. It's laughable. I don't believe it looks better.

am i right in assuming forza doenst offer movable parts on the car, just look at the r8 , the rear spoiler doesnt pop up at all

I guess Forzas hype train hit a wall. T10 promised to release the definitive racinggame, but the features alone are weak compared to Gran Turismo 5 and now its not even looking as good as promised and its definately worse looking than GT5.

I got the chance to play the demo at a friends house and i couldnt stop smiling, because i had to think about what T10 promised F3 would be like. Its really looking better than Forza 2, but other than that the demo has the same amount of bugs F2 had and die visuals are nowhere near GT5. The physics engine is ok, but feels exactly like the one from F2. The cockpit view is awkeward somehow, you cant really move the head just look out of the left and the right window and looking backwards is not as nicely done as it is in GT5P.

There is a german saying:
"Hunde die bellen, beißen nicht!" - "Dogs that bark, wont bite"
I guess thats completely true with T10, they tried everything to make the Forza fans believe they will deliver, but T10 knew they would never be able to. They can consider themselves lucky that GT5 will not be there to compete with them this Christmas, so they can still spread the word that Forza 3 is the best racing game out there. Until GT5 comes out.

If you are going to notice that then it is also fair to notice that the Audi R8 in GTP doesn't sound anything like an Audi R8 and it also cannot be damaged.

You make it sound so one sided.

Based on what we know so far, from a features perspective, GT 5 is considerably behind what Forza 3 offers.

Interesting. Can you list both features list?

Well, I can only speculate based on what is known so far and based on what was true for previous games in the series.

But based on that we we know so far....

GT 5 will be superior in the areas of Graphics, car count and better replays and photomode options.

Forza 3 will be superior in Customization, Tuning, Sound, Physics, Damage, AI, track count, and Online implementation.
