Pininfarina Teases Fittipaldi EF7 Vision GT Before Geneva Motor Show

I see this "good relationship with manufacturers" line in relation to PD quite often in the forums as if it's some unique attribute of the GT series. Does anyone think that other game devs don't have good relationships with manufacturers? Other than the VGT program which has received very mixed reviews from fans of the game, how have us sim racers benefitted from this relationship in the last 2 versions of the game in terms of currently available cars, which presumably would come from a good relationship? The premium car list in GT6 was already outdated at launch with very little updating since.

I understand what you are saying. Hopefully the future will provide as the gamers some benefit in the near future. If not, it is just another missed opportunity from PD. Nothing they do really surprises me at this point. This is why I don't complain anymore. The VGT project is here to stay. We all know that. This should really be of no surprise to anyone by now. Or its protracted development cycle. I understand peoples frustration with PD. I think they are living in a bubble. But by now the limited car list and slow inclusion of more VGT's is no secret. Ironically, despite PD not being most forthcoming with more details on GT Sport, there are somethings that more than likely won't change or won't surprise most people.

I personally, am no longer surprised at PD's strange approach. Just like the VGT series I can take or leave GT Sport. They are not the only players in town anymore. I understand fans disappointment. But the more choices available is better for everyone. Choices are always a better thing. It is what it is. I think people need to come to the realisation in the direction in which PD has gone. It us nothing new.The surprising thing is that it has taken some people so long to realise it. We can talk about this until we are blue in the face. Our interest of this once great series is what brought us together on this site of PD worship. We are just mortal worshippers (gamers) praying to a once percieved supreme god (PD during it's years of dominance). But this god isn't answering our prayers anymore. Or the realisation is setting in that god doesn't exist anymore or cannot answer our simplest of wishes of which we ask of it. And we are foolishly praising something that isn't relevant in current times. And that these once great miracles performed by PD, who we once foolishly put on a pedestal, are now just party tricks being performed by many "mortal" developers.

I wonder what racing class this variation of Batmobile will be crudely altered to be competitive in.

Easy, since the VGTs are full fantasy cars they can do anything with them!

VGT Spyder!
VGT RS!
VGT GT3!
VGT GTE!
Super VGT!
VGT CanAM!
VGT Group C!
VGT Trophy truck!
....

You name it, Kaz will spec it!

I don't think this car will be another 'batmobile' like people are labeling it. The batmobile actually drives btw ;) . It seems like this car is going to be produced AND be in Gran Turismo. So pd is modeling a real (future) car and vgt it seems.

Depends on which batmobile you're talking about, since not all of them do, and none of them actually perform the driving capabilities they're claimed to. ;)

So I've decided to see what I can do in order to help everyone get a better idea as to what the Pininfarina concept looks like. I've used Paint.NET to apply a sharpening effect to the latest teaser image, and while the picture itself is hideous, it should give us a better idea of the car's lines.

Looks like something lambo would make .

So is that it?

If you mean if this the actual Pininfarina VGT car, then no. The picture is of the Pininfarina H2 concept shown at last years Geneva Motor Show. It is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. But maybe their VGT takes some ideas from it. We will have to wait and see for the full reveal at this years event.

At this point it should be clear to anyone that PoDi doesn't give two flying :censored:s about what their fans and customers want, it's all about Kaz's ego-trips now because he's an artist of mimesis or some other nonsense. Bring on the laser-powered 4WD hybrid triple turbocharged rocketships and let's have some fun!

I'm very sad that to see what the GT franchise has become.

We wanted them to remove standards. They did. We wanted more customization. They gave us the Course Maker in GT5 and 6, along with a wide range of body options on some cars and even interior customization, and now it looks like we're even getting a livery editor (although over a decade late). We wanted online. They gave us a wonderfully robust online mode that was pretty good when it worked. And, crucially, we wanted better sounds, and they're now getting around to that as well.

So it looks an awful lot to me like they are listening and changing things based on feedback, even if they are slow about it. I certainly wouldn't go as far as saying they don't "give two flying ****s," in any case.

VGTs are to GT, what futuristic scale model cars are to Hot Wheels. Plus, real VGTs have been made for Hot Wheels.
It is what it is.

It's not like they had a choice on any of those, did they? What I mean is that, rather than being specific fan requests, they're minimum features that most games in the genre provide and so should Gran Turismo if it even hopes to remain in the same league as its competitors. It's the least they could've done. Removing standards was as lazy as including them in the first place: they couldn't be bothered to see which cars were worthy of being overhauld and just ditched the whole lot altogether. Customization is incredibly limited and needlessly complicated when implemented (Here, have paint chips instead of, uhm, a colour palette), although I will give you that Course Maker worked rather well in GT5. The livery editor is not only a decade late, but a decade behind: your run of the mill Need for Speed game from a decade ago allowed for more freedom when it came to decorating a car. The online, like you said, was robust WHEN it worked and, again, it's not like they had a choice. And the less said about sounds, the better: once again, a decade late and yet a decade behind, as the guys at Sector 3 have wonderfully demonstrated.

But besides that, in terms of content and actual game design, have they legitimately heard their fans' complaints and suggestions? Have they done something about the absurd mish-mash of cars of different classes in the same race? Have they added the circuits and cars people consider staples of both the franchise and car culture in general? Or have they insisted in this ridiculous "chase the rabbit" format, pitting a ridiculously overpowered car against a grid of lesser vehicles and given us such fan favourites as the Kubelwagen? Have we had content polls like Forza has organized or have we had an onslaught of make-believe vehicles nobody asked for? Did they work on bringing back Complex String like thousands of fans on this website asked or did they insist on making "Cape Ring"? And how about forced assists for certain events?

It seems that they are listening

Some people like them and some not. So what should PD do? They can't please everybody

They've had fictional cars in every GT game fyi.
What a story. Heard it here first, folks.

We wanted them to remove standards. They did.
And by all indication so far (since they also removed 2/3rds of their claimed PS4 quality assets and said everything is being remodeled) they had no choice in the matter; even ignoring the amount of incompetence that would have been on display had they not removed something like this:

From their PS4 title releasing 4 years into its system life.

Again, I disagree. The customization and Course Maker features are definitely not "minimum features." For instance, games like Assetto Corsa and (sigh; do I really have to mention this game?) Project CARS have zero in-game customization. Sure, you can download mods for them and customize them to your heart's content (more so AC than... that other game). But that's only for PC players. In the game, you're limited to a number of pre-selected paint colors/liveries. Heck, even though there's no livery editor, there are a few cars in which GT6 smokes even FM6 as far as body customization (although these are still admittedly few and far between). Take for instance the KTM X-Bow. In FM6, the only body mods you can have for it are the stupid-looking Forza bumper and wing. In GT6, it's far more customizable. You can even change out the airbox. How crazy is that?!

And I defy you to name one other sim racing game within the last 10 years that allows you to create your own tracks (and no, DiRT 4 doesn't count because it's not out yet). Again, sure, you can download new tracks for AC - some of them quite amazing, and I would know because I've tried some - but unless you have a significant amount of know-how, you can't actually create them. The Course Maker in GT5 and (especially) GT6 allows anyone to make great tracks.

How do you know this? We've only seen the livery editor once for about 4 seconds in one trailer. There's no way we could possibly know how extensive customization is in GT Sport from just that alone. Is it possible that the livery editor is utter crap? Yes, but it's also possible that it even smokes Forza's. We'll just have to wait and see.

Other than the fact that, you know, there are people who do want the VGTs in the game. Quite a number of them in fact.

A new VGT doesn't mean it stopped PD from aquiring a stock Toyota Supra RZ MK IV, a BMW E30 M3 Sport Evolution, a 1992 Nissan N14 Pulsar GTI-RA (as much as I would love to upgrade and tune one), or a super rare Koenigsegg One:1 for inclusuon in GT sport.

Kinda. It did replace something though, especially when you have a car list as small as GTS. I think it's valid to scrutinise what each car adds to the game when the car list is so small.

And the players get more content. The Pininfarina still means added content added to the game. The more the merrier.

I think there's this assumption that the VGT project means more content than we would otherwise have gotten. Given how slow PD's modelling process is I think it's safe to assume that they're capped on how many cars they can produce per year. They're not going to ship extra cars off to outsourced studios for example. That means they've got a limited amount of cars they can produce, and any VGTs have to take the place of something else.

At the end of the day the manufacturers hold the cards and I doubt PD have the power to demand the manufacturers hurry up.

They do, it just requires some testicles. It's their VGT program, if manufacturers want into the GTS version of it they submit designs and information by such-and-such a date or they're not included. No messing around, no animosity, just clear communication that if they want to be part of this marketing opportunity then they need to deliver.

If you hate the VGTs because they don't exist or whatever, it's a racing game.

It's no so much that they don't exist, concept cars are and always have been a big part of Gran Turismo. It's that they can't exist with anything remotely similar to today's technology. They're fantasy, and they're about as grounded in reality as an AG Wipeout craft. If I just want to drive something awesome, there are lots of games for that. In a game that touts itself as a simulation, I think it's fair to expect a certain level of obedience to the laws of physics and material science.

Just right offhand, I can't think of a VGT that doesn't abide by the laws of physics, aside from the Tomahawks of course. So you're taking (in your opinion) the worst example and applying it to all the other VGTs. Don't you think that's a tad unfair?

Chaparral, Hyundai

You could technically propel a vehicle with electrons/laser. IIRC There's a thing NASA proposed called ion propulsion that reminds me of the laser.

Don't remember what Hyundai did.

I'll give you the Chaparral - in fact I just remembered that one myself - but the Hyundai looks like just another LMP, more or less. Of course, there's also the Mazda, but again, the most outlandish piece of tech in that is the rotary engine, which by the way is what powered the winner of the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans.
