And who is "they"?They said they can't.
They said they would have to start from scratch.
Or it is because of the actual reason, which is that the 3.60 version checks for PSN access have been (probably temporarily) circumvented.Access to PSN lets those consoles get demos and easy access to purchase games for money? Maybe a reason Sony lets it.
Also untrue.Any new software releases will require a legitimate PS3.
Uh... What's up with my friends list? It's all over the shop now - it no longer sorts alphabetically by status. Why!? Sometimes, I think they just change things to wind people up.
So I finally got my router opened for atleast black ops but still cant do the 508 mb gt5 download, any advice?
An update to the PS3 system software was released on 15 May 2011. If you update your PS3 system, the system software version will be 3.61 and the following features will be updated. In order to download PS3 system software version 3.61, you will need a minimum 180MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).
Main features in system software update version 3.61
An unauthorized access to PlayStation Network has been confirmed and, as a security measure, a process that requires all PlayStation Network account holders to change passwords has been added.
After you update to version 3.61, you will be required to change your account password the first time you sign in to PlayStation Network. Please change the passwords for all of your PlayStation Network accounts. Visit eu.playstation.com/ps3psn for further details.
Earlier tonight we released an optional system software update (v3.65) for PlayStation 3. This new firmware improves the operating stability of some PS3 format software, and changes the XMB item SaveData Utility (minis) to [SaveData Utility(minis/PSP)].
Again, this update is optional, and can be downloaded by selecting System Update from the Setting column of the XMB.
Yet another trivial update which actually add's nothing to the console as a gaming machine. Why can't Sony accumulate these stability updates then releases them as one pack ever so often, jeez there was only one like 2 weeks ago!

Well all this update did is slow down loading times in GT5. Now I have to wait twice as long to start playing.
Unless you are one of the many who have stability issues with certain games and wouldn't be very happy if they "held off" fixing them - I hardly think they would consider the update to be "trivial" and claim that it "added nothing" - now would they?
Not only that, but unless you have a really poor internet connection, just how inconvenient is it to start the download process... go do something else for a few minutes (took less than 3 min for me at about 5Mbps via WiFi), and then use your PS3?
Not only that, but it's not like there is an update every day, not even every week. In fact on average there is an update less than once a month, and in some cases several months between updates. So really, what's the great inconvenience here worthy of a public rant?
Seems people will rant about just about anything these days... often on both sides of a topic... never satisfied... often only thinking about what they want and not how it might impact others... *sigh*

Just because two events happened to you at the same time, it doesn't mean they are related. In fact, if many others didn't experience what you claim, then it's extremely unlikely they are. It didn't slow mine down. If it was the update that caused it, most likely everyone's would be longer.
Did you consider the fact that since the beginning, sometimes GT5 takes longer to start up than other times? Not convinced? Keep quitting and restarting the game and time how long it takes for the main menu to load. Having done that myself before the update I found the time can vary by quite a lot sometimes.
We should go through the Hacked PSN down thread and direct everyone who said Sony never did any updates and that's why the security was bad to this thread. Then just sit back and watch the "Sony never updates" vs "Sony updates too often" battle.Seems people will rant about just about anything these days... often on both sides of a topic... never satisfied... often only thinking about what they want and not how it might impact others... *sigh*
It is a bit annoying though, especially when the console simply refuses to download at the speeds it says it's getting. I've got an 8mb wireless connection and the console downloads at horrible speeds, especially compared to my 360 on the same network. Even if I DMZ the console it just sits there, plodding along.
Turn on my 360 and if there's an update (there rarely is) it downloads in seconds and I'm back gaming in under a minute.
It's not that big a problem, I've got plenty to do besides play games, but sometimes you just want a quick blast on GT5 and you can't!
Then they should make it optional and that keeps everyone happy, I don't want fixes for games I don't have and don't want to go through the worry of bricking the console twice a month.
And actually nearly every month has had an update since the console has launched and there has NEVER been a period of several months between updates, the most ever was 3 months. Some months even had 3 updates and 2 updates in a month is not uncommon.

It is not a fact that on average there are two updates a month, or even more as you have suggested.
So on average there is one mandatory update every month (of which there has only ever been a single case where only a small percentage of consoles that were bricked - and temporarily at that).
