Since the last update (3.50 I believe) which enables 3D Blurays, I have noticed a slight problem.
You all know the background when you boot up the PS3? Like the silky line waving with sparkles of glitter floating from it? Well every single particle of glitter leaves a slightly dark path behind it, so it ends up looking like a load of shadows in the shape of fireworks, or palm trees.
I don't know if this is the update, or maybe my TV is dying?
Anybody else noticed this?

Is it possible to NOT update and still be able to go online with your PS3? I thought is was not.......

Nope, its not. I've tryed many times and none of the attempts were successful.
From a safety standpoint, they have a legal obligation if issues have arisen. You'll find your higher end third party controllers will work fine, it will be the cheap rubbish that won't.
This isn't directed at you but piracy in terms of intellectual hardware. People need to start directing their anger at the thief's not the company trying to protect their investment. In context, how would people feel if somebody broke into their house and stole their tv or computer...

I can not wait for Hulu Plus and Netflix app but I'm torn by not knowing if Hulu Plus has HD movie support. That may be my deciding factor. I haven't found anything in their HP Faq
. TV shows yes but movies? Wondering if Netflix is hiding in that 3.50 or will it be another FW update in a few weeks...

I believe that select titles are available in HD, but not all of them. Though the PS3 will do a good job upscaling SD signals, so it's not too bad. I personally never look for quality in any streamed media because I'm a snob, lol. If I watch a few ep's of a show and like it, I'll stop watching and find a BRD set...my wallet cries so hard.
LBP Nissan - You can't listen to music anymore because it preserves memory, which improves stability and performance of the Browser. In order to prevent hard crashes, Sony has removed the ability to listen to music and browse.

Sony's new PS3 firmware (3.50) has blocked the use of some 3rd party USB devices apparently to 'protect us' but has in the process deactivated legit 3rd party devices such as Mad Catz controllers etc. It might also mean some USB storage devices wont work. Mad Catz is now having to offer replacements for Sony's blunder and this means anything 3rd party you buy, even if it says made for PS3, might not work!
I wish they would stop messing around with this console! If I wake up one day and find nothing USB works on it unless it says Sony on it I will be pissed. This console has lost more and more useful features and gained utterly useless ones most of which you can do better on a PC. Give me the days of no firmware updates on anything.

Define online. As in using the PSN? No. But being able to use the Internet browser, yep that kind of thing still works.
I keep wishing you would get a Wii, 360, and even an iPod so I can see these kinds of posts in those threads too.

I don't think that is a fair rebuttal. I don't even own a 360 and that made me angry when it was announced.

It basically boils down to 1st parties wanting to get their dues for accessories. Basically, the controllers that MadCatz released were not using certain specifications that Sony put in place, which is why they don't work. By circumventing those specifications, MadCatz can potentially avoid any royalties due to Sony for licensing fees, etc. The same can be said for the black market DS3's that were on the Market in a lot of asian territories. They were basically DS3 knock offs and were cutting into Sony's profits. It's a business, and they have to protect it.

lets not over look what the 3.50 update gave us...we all now have a 3D BluRay player...plus in an article I just read via a Google search, MadKatz is going to replace the affected controllers if your warranty is still valid.
