Playstation 3 System Update Thread

From Wikipedia:

System Changes

- Added support for the Sony RC-S380 (PaSoRi) NFC contactless IC cards reader.
- The wireless stereo headset (CECHYA-0080 / CECHYA-0086) and the stereo headset (CECHYA-0088) now support PlayStation 2 Classics that have been downloaded from PlayStation Store.
- Allows users to download content purchased from the online store to their PS3. This feature is not available yet and is to be activated in May 2013.
- System stability has been improved.
- Blocked the use of Proxy Servers to prevent the use of patch blocker programs and patch bypass exploits.

Game Changes

- Issues with some games have been fixed.

- You can now view trophies by original game or addon when viewing offline trophy mode when in a game.

I don't see what they're actually doing. To anyone with underpar Internet the store still takes an age to open, still sometimes freezes and won't open at all and the interface as a whole doesn't seem any quicker.

They used to just take the store down for a bit and update it, now you have to download a patch.

I keep on getting signed out whilst playing games now since the update, Its very annoying as it disrupts my game and messes with my progression when im doing time trials on games etc

Argh, since the updates to the PSN and Store I can no longer get into the store. Just get an error message every time. 80710D23. Wanted to put a download on over night but just getting errors.

Playstation Middle east are posting that a new feature in the latest update which when you hug the console it measure your heart rate and power button turns orange

Mine has done this too since I bought it. A hug a day keeps YLOD away ;).

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, supposedly the new update, 4.45 is "soft-bricking" "freezing" certain PS3s. Mostly Slims with upgraded hard drives, but there's a chance any PS3 can become glitched due to this update error. It's since been pulled out by Sony now, so if you have 4.41, there's no prompt to update.

If you've updated and not been able to use your PS3 as usual, the only fix they currently have is you install the old drive

From /r/games:

The 4.45 Update has been pulled. 4.41 is now considered "Up to date".
I've been watching the ****storm unfold on the forums and I've seen the affected posters layout as such:
Aftermaket HDDs, 500GB-1TB ~90%
Stock 500GB models ~8%
Stock 120GB models ~2%
Stock 1st-gen fat models 0

The 2% may well be people complaining that do not actually have a broken system. People lie for no good reason sometimes, and the PS forums have never struck me as a deep bunch.

There's about 3 new posts every minute for the last hour, and Sony's still apparently trying to get some people to pay for a repair.

If you're affected, my advice would be to simply wait. This will be an all-hands-on-deck sort of hotfix, so don't do anything drastic. Find a convenient flash drive and format it and wait for the hotfix which will be delivered via that flash drive. Many people have turned a bad situation (hung on XMB) to a data-loss situation by trying to use the recovery mode. Just wait it out.

EDIT 2: A commonly reported workaround if you've upgraded your HDD and it's currently unusable is go dig out the original HDD, or a comparable HDD below 500GB, and use that in the meantime. Obviously no saves unless you have PS+ cloud saving, but it'll get you going in the meantime.

EDIT 3: If you're still seeing an update prompt, reboot your system and sign back into PSN, it should go away.

Never thought I'd see the day where I'm glad to have had a YLOD

Good thing I didn't turn on my PS3 before reading this, as I would've installed the update !

Would it affect the system, if the HDD haven't been replaced?

Nope, as you saw, it's just a laptop 2.5" hard drive, you can use any storage size you like ;).

Wow, I was just at community.us.playstation.com forums and it's full of people with bricked PS3's from the firmware update. http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Support/bd-p/22035

I feel bad for those affected by the update :(.

I suspect some will be people who don't really have bricked PS3 and just want to complain and make Sony look bad or who had PS3s already with the YLOD and are trying to get a free repair.

That said there was obviously an issue with the firmware as it was quickly pulled so hopefully Sony will sort it out for people without any charge, which they probably will as it's so near to the launch of the PS4 and they won't want any bad press.

Looks like I got lucky this time, glad I waited enough for them to pull it back, but sucks for those affected. Does this mean they won't be able to use their PS3s since they can't download the fix update because it's stuck at the boot-up screen?

Edit - Nevermind, forgot about the Safe Mode thing.

I did the update this morning before I came here to read this.
My PS3 also has a WD 500GB hard disk installed.
But weird, nothing bad happened.

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. *Knocks on wood* :scared:

Same here. I woke to my PS Plus telling me it updated. Mine worked fine though.
