Hopefully going to get one tonight. My major concern/complaint is lack of headseat compatability.
I really dont like the idea of using my TB px5 heafphones and having to use an earbud for voice comms. Hopefully, bluetooth headsets will be patched in soon. (Has it been mentioned yet?)
My gaming desk is in my living room on a second tv, so not using headphones isnt really much of an option for me.

just set it up to play the voice through your speakers and clip the mic to your shirt. No need to use the earbud if you don't want to.

At least in theory that should work shouldn't it.

That may work.

Nice.

You can't play PS3 games on the PS4, that would be nonsense.
Something apparently got lost in translation here. If you own a physical PS3 disk, obviously you can't play it on the PS4 due to the absence of the hardware necessary to make it work(i.e. Cell CPU). However, Digital PS3 games will work just fine because they can and will be re-encoded similar to PS2 Classics were on PS3 after that's system's hardware was removed.

Besides, the entire conversion process would be streamlined with the Genkei(spelling check) service anyways, which means faster releases on classics.

There was an article somewhere that showed a Santa Monica staff member playing Journey on what was supposed to be a PS4, to be used as a real world example. Even though it was played on a PS3, the Genkei service would allow you to stream the game, as well as any PS2 and PS1 classics that you own, to your PS4 because the service would theoretically add a patch to the game's code that would make it compatible with PS4 hardware. The process has already been tested with PS2 classics on PS3, now the process is more simplified, streamlined, and now requires no input from the publisher or developer to add the code.

Are you claiming that if you bought for example The Last of Us online from the PSN that it will play on the ps4 but if you bought the disk it will not?

All that I was saying in the first place was that all PSN purchases were playable on the PS4 as long as you didn't exceed the license(two consoles if my math is right), then it should work on PS4. That is what the lady at tech support told me when I called yesterday.

With the Genkei service that Sony bought months ago, they are working on streamlining the process that it takes to transpose classics to PS4 so that the entire catalog of playstation games would work with the PS4. Obviously, their priority right now is to make the thing work.

The lady you talked to at tech support was wrong. A PS3 PSN game is just as much of a PS3 game as anything you got on disc; and there was no "reencoding" done to the PS2 Cassics because they worked pretty much exactly like the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility did, with a specialized emulator allowing the game to run (except Sony never added disc support like Microsoft did).

Similarly:
The process has already been tested with PS2 classics on PS3, now the process is more simplified, streamlined, and now requires no input from the publisher or developer to add the code.

There is no process being streamlined, and how Sony handled PS2 and PSX classics are irrelevant for the PS4. PS2 Classics, real PS2 BC and PSX BC were done on your PS3. Gaikai is not done on your PS4 at all, even when it should be (PSX games).

Well, amazon have shipped my copy of BF4, but not my ps4. Yet. Even though I'm not really fussed about bf4, I imagine it will taunt me until my ps4 arrives.

Sony will monitor and record voice chat and text messages sent over PSN.

So, for everyone worried about the other console spying on you, looks Like the PS4 will be doing it too 👎

Another article taking things out of context to get hits.

13.1 is in regards to making sure everyone is playing by the ToS. If a player sends derogatory messages, or cheat in games, then Sony can pull in messages, recordings, voice, etc as proof of conduct and deal with said player in appropriate manor.

It is the same wording as what is in the PS3 ToS (13.1 to be exact) you agreed to and have been using while playing your PS3, and probably many other online experiences.

Reading onto 14.1 you would come across this..

14. Are we monitoring PSN?
14.1. Yes but we can’t monitor all PSN activity and we make no commitment to do so....

But hey, that wouldn't make much of a story would it.

No single game from PS3 would work on PS4 that has been confirmed by sony. PS4 does not have backward compatibility towards any previous play-station.

So if you are on PS4 and want to psn and want to play Last of Us, it won't work. You will only have this game on your psn account and to play it you have to download again on PS3. I don't know if PS4 would allow you to download PS3 game, purchase yes but probably not download. If it's purchased then it's ready to download and to do it so it might be required to use PS3 console only.

I forgot all about that. Sony hasn't been talking about that much lately. Weren't they wanting to make the majority of the playstation catalogue available eventually to be played on the ps4, vita and future Sony consoles including ps3 games. It was kind if a big point at I think E3 but that's the last I heard of it.

I guess it will be backward compatible sort of but you would have to repurchase any game you previously had, or at least re download it through the genkai cloud or whatever it is.

This is an old article but I imagine Sony is worried more about getting the ps4 going then working on getting older games working for it.

Just used the Amazon buy 2 get 1 free promotion to get KZ: Shadowfall, AC:IV, and Battlefield 4. I will exchange the copy of Killzone at GameStop for a dualshock 4 since I already purchased it through them. Was really torn between Knack and AC:IV. Not that excited for AC but also figured Knack will be a PS+ game. I wish Knack reviews were out already. Would've made the decision easier.

Thing about Knack for me is that every time i look at this game (videos on youtube) it doesn't looks so serious for me. It reminds me Crash Bandicoot game from PSone. Not literally but this cartoonist character and kind of goofy graphics does not convince me to buy this game. Assassins Creed Black Flag is a different thing. I like when adventure take me away from this world for few hours. And i'd like to play closer to real characters, humans, secret agents. Treasure Hunters, people running away from zombies. So despite the fact Flack Flag i also on PS3 and i don't have to wait it's just a game you want to play in the end.

So i think you did good deal. I want the same one but sadly amazon does not ship into my country.

they did away with streaming media on the ps3 with the last update. This no CD reading, no MP3 and no streaming could only be so that you have to subscribe to their music service and get your movies from them. With the ps3 losing the ability to stream it seems obvious that they don't want you doing it.
The PS3 has not lost media streaming at all, I've used mine dozens of times since the last update to do just that and it works fine.

I know. I was wrong. I don't know why mine had disappeared. It doesn't matter any longer anyway. Sony announced their adding mp3, streaming and cd support post launch.

It sounds like Sony is really listening. Now we will have support for our music and movies and pretty much the ultimate in backwards compatible.

Thanks to Amazon I got 3 games for the price of 2. Now I have to wait about 10 days until the PS4 is delivered
I did the same thing at amazon. 2 of them will be here for the launch Friday but it said one of them expected delivery December 30th. I'm hoping that's a mistake.

Any news from the AMD developer summit yet? Sony were going to reveal the exact specs of the CPU weren't they?

Yeah I really want to know the full specs to because we pretty much know the Xbox ones and it would be nice to finally know which one is more powerful, even if its just on paper. It's believed the PS4 has the slight edge, even after the last minute Xbox overclock.
