My impressions of the PS4 so far, copied from another site I post on...

There are plenty of review sites that are readying their PS4 reviews but I'd like this thread to be for those of us who have the system to share our thoughts and opinions on the system. Things we like, things we don't like, that kind of thing.

First off, things I like.

The system is absolutely gorgeous and my bad picture nor others on the internet do it justice. I always thought the launch PlayStation 3 was a very good looking system but I think this one takes the cake. It just looks like a high end piece of hardware and I love the LED that runs between the glassy and matte part of the system, it looks very good when the system is on.

I love, love freaking love the DualShock 4! Seriously, it is the best controller I have ever used, bar none. I always liked the DualShock controllers and they were always a personal favorite but I don't think I can go back to a DualShock 3 after this. The DS4 is bigger, slightly heavier and has a few subtle changes that make it an absolute joy to hold in your hands. The speaker is actually very cool too. I was playing Killzone: Shadow Fall and picked up an audio log and it automatically started playing through the DS4 speaker. It was surprisingly high quality and honestly added to the experience instead of feeling like a gimmick. The touchpad seems like it can be very useful too.

The UI is also absolutely gorgeous and extremely fast. For you trophy hunters out there no need to worry about syncing trophies anymore. I have a level 16 account with a couple thousand trophies (2700 or so) and the first sync to view my trophies took maybe 2 seconds. On PS3 it could have taken potentially hours so this is a great thing. Opening apps is extremely fast, the PSN store is very high speed and everything just looks great. It is pretty much just like the XMB but an evolution of it. If I can find a good video of someone showing it I'll add it. Rest assured, it is nothing like the 360 UI which has ads everywhere and it very clunky, I originally thought it would be like that but it isn't even close. I adore the UI.

The bad...

The console only has two USB ports. I know I'll need more than 2 USB ports. My racing wheel and shifter take two ports alone so my headset has nowhere to be plugged in. Luckily it won't matter until a Gran Turismo is released for the system but still, they could've added more ports. The console apparently wobbles? I don't know though, I don't press down on the corner of my console while I game so I can't confirm that. There is no awesome start up sound. The PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 all had awesome start up music when you boot up the system, this doesn't. There is no MP3 support as of right now but I don't listen to music on my consoles so it isn't a big deal for me.

If it seems like I'm grasping at straws it is because I am. The system is extremely good and I can't find anything I consider a system breaking fault. It is gorgeous, fast, has the best controller of all time and is fairly cheap when you consider what you get. It has been a while since I've been blown away by graphics but Killzone did it for me. Just the quality of the textures while playing it something amazing and I haven't seen PC games that look this good. People may say the PS4 is a "low end PC" but this low end PC is kicking the crap out of just about everything out there.

I'll post more later when I have more time with the system but the first few hours are very positive. There is honestly nothing I have found to complain about and I'm having an absolute blast with the system. I'll be trying to hook up my Astro A50's today to see if I can get at least the audio to work, I really don't care all that much about the chat right now.

Nice, thanks for that. When you say no MP3 support; does that mean specifically MP3s or all digital audio files? Do MP4s work? I spent a significant amount of time back when iTunes started supporting MP4 converting all my old MP3s over, so I don't think I actually own any MP3s. Then again I've only ever had the Wipeout soundtracks installed on my PS3s (for GT5 and Wipeout HD custom soundtracks) so I'm not all that bothered either way.

My shipment still says in transit but the status hasn't changed in about 13 hours, still in Champaign, Illinois. I contacted Amazon and they said I made a change to the order which changed the delivery date. I didn't adjust anything with my order. Then she said it's a highly sellable item and the demand was too high to process every order on time, changing the reason why my estimated delivery date is the 16th. After explaining I understand that and it's why I preordered on June 10th, to avoid this issue I am waiting to speak with a manager. This is amazing. Amazon took orders for a Battlefield Bundle just a couple weeks ago and those were processed before my order. The frustration level is high right now.

That's a shame, but it's not really their fault about it being held up at a courier's sorting office somewhere. I remember they accidentally shipped copies of GTA:4 to people who preordered days before release instead of those who preordered months before release. Sometimes mistakes happen.

Trust me, I understand Amazon has no control over the courier once it's in the courier's hands. The main issue was Amazon sent the package out too late to meet the guaranteed delivery date. Once they realized it would be shipped Thursday at 4pm they should have automatically changed it to overnight shipping rather than sticking with the 2 day. The supervisor called FedEx for an update on the package and also issued me a $60 credit. Now to wait...

I can understand the frustration, $400 is a lot of money not to be able to get your hand on, but you've got $60 out of it you didn't have before. Think of it as a Christmas present you don't have to buy.

I'm actually in a good mood now. Just knowing what is going on is a relief, instead of checking the shipping details every 30 minutes looking for some sort of movement. In the grand scheme of things one day later won't matter and I got the PS camera out of it so I made out good other than the lost day of gaming. If you look on NeoGaf Amazon is giving some people in my situation no store credit nor admitting any fault. One person wrote that the CS rep told him Amazon didn't ship ANY PS4's before today.

So happy next gen is here. Although I don't have a PS4 (yet). I'm sitting here marveling at this PS4 based Knack stream. I hope you guys are enjoying :D

To all the guys in the UK who haven't got a PS4 preordered, Asda are guaranteeing release day delivery for £349.00. I was going to wait until after christmas but at that price I just had to go for it. So that's brand new uber PC on Wednesday next week, Xbone next Friday and PS4 a week later. Christmas has indeed come early!

I am waiting for this bugs to be fixed and by the way the PS4 portion of PSN has crashed due to 'high volume'
We've been playing cod online with it. It's the only game I've got online with but cod seems to be working fine.

Has anyone else noticed the control sticks are kind of leaned forward. It's fine for everything but shooters. When you push forward a lot it kind of makes my thumb want to slide off and I'm constantly fighting it bMy buddy is feeling the same way and can't stand it either. I can't imagine playing very long sessions of FPS games like this. It's to the point that I'm not sure if I want to keep the ps4 or not. If I'm not use to it by the Xbox release I may switch.

Everything else is great though. I like the UI, streaming, and really everything else. I love how the controllers sticks feel and triggers it's just the leaning forward of the sticks is really awkward. everything but cod so far looks great. Ghosts really just looks like its in a higher res. the textures and lighting in multiplayer really doesn't look much better. If someone just walked in the room I don't think they would realize ghosts is next gen. Bf4, killzone, and 2k14 look fantastic though and would stop anyone who plays games in their tracks and ask about it.

Got my hands on a PS4 controller for the first time today, in a game store on a demo unit, and have to say I thought they were very nice. I hated the controllers on the PS3 compared to 360 controllers but the improvements they have made seem very good. So it's a bit disappointing to hear this.

I can now confirm that my Astro A50 headset works perfectly with the PS4 for audio. I hooked up the optical cable and USB cable, booted my PS4 up and I didn't have to do anything else for the headset to work. No options menu or anything. I haven't been able to check out chat yet but I'll see if that works in the next day or two.

To be expected. Not so widespread at the moment, but some PS4's are having issues, with the patch being the main culprit, from what I've come across.

Now to wait and see on MS and their X1 with the issues they'll most likely have. I'll be sure to post it also.

PS4 bundles became available once again on Amazon earlier today, so I added one to my cart (The BF4 bundle) and checked out as fast as possible. Then I proceeded to leisurely add other games (Ghosts, KZ:SF, and Knack) and an additional DS4 to my cart.

Hopefully they get this bricking issue with the 1.5 patch resolved before I get it. But even if they don't, I'm not going to be in any rush to get it updated considering my PS4 will be offline most of the time. Not to mention that my PS4 will probably sit and gather dust for a little bit while I continue playing GTA V and then move onto GT6 when it comes out. :P

Awesome, I really want to pick this up but would be wasted on me right now as I am not sure what of the release games I would play enough to justify the purchase.

I feel exactly the same, Killzone and FIFA would get some playing time, but will they keep me occupied until the next batch of releases??? Ah well, it doesn't release for another two weeks here anyway:grumpy:

Can't you plug in your headset to the DS4? Nice review! I have still to wait till 29th :(

Apparently this means the system is overheated and this stops the system from being damaged.

I am so jealous of you all. I found out this week that my pre-order, slated for 29 Nov is now not going to be fulfilled so I have to wait until January. I will be looking around for off line availability but don't like my chances.

Australia btw
