Awesome, I really want to pick this up but would be wasted on me right now as I am not sure what of the release games I would play enough to justify the purchase.
I know a few of the Gaijin community (from the IL-2 Sturmovik: BoP days) played GT5 when it came out, so maybe War Thunder in return might be something for you.

The console only has two USB ports. I know I'll need more than 2 USB ports. My racing wheel and shifter take two ports alone so my headset has nowhere to be plugged in. Luckily it won't matter until a Gran Turismo is released for the system but still, they could've added more ports. The console apparently wobbles? I don't know though, I don't press down on the corner of my console while I game so I can't confirm that. There is no awesome start up sound. The PlayStation, PS2 and PS3 all had awesome start up music when you boot up the system, this doesn't. There is no MP3 support as of right now but I don't listen to music on my consoles so it isn't a big deal for me.

Problem solved.

It has been a while since I've been blown away by graphics but Killzone did it for me. Just the quality of the textures while playing it something amazing and I haven't seen PC games that look this good. People may say the PS4 is a "low end PC" but this low end PC is kicking the crap out of just about everything out there.

Seriously?

Seriously?

Actually, I kind of agree with peobryant. Sure, from a technical perspective, a mid-range gaming PC blows the PS4 out of the water in most aspects. And sure, this definitely scores you some increased graphical fidelity on the PC. But usually it pretty much just amounts to little more than increased rendering resolution, smoother framerate and/or more AA. All nice things, but nothing that makes the graphics of a game running on PC jaw-droppingly better than what we're seeing with the PS4 launch titles.

And whereas PC has the technical edge, consoles have more AAA developer support thanks to the increased difficulty of pirating games on these closed platforms. And as a result, consoles more than make up for their technical shortcomings by having many games that have an aesthetic edge over most PC offerings.

Or in short: I'll take technically solid graphics with stunning aesthetics over technically impressive graphics with mediocre aesthetics any day of the week, and IMHO consoles have the edge in regard to the number of games with great aesthetics.

The What "thunder" ? lol I really enjoyed borderlands on the PS3, was actually the first and only game I could be bothered to Platinum. Destiny and the division and also watchdogs would temp me. Will hold fire for a while.

 It's a flight sim MMO with tanks and soon to have battleships added: F2P too. Yeah though, it those others are the games you like the sound of, then KZ 4 would be the only comparable game really until a bit later on.

I am so jealous of you all. I found out this week that my pre-order, slated for 29 Nov is now not going to be fulfilled so I have to wait until January. I will be looking around for off line availability but don't like my chances.

Australia btw

Hang on mate, it'll get there soon.

Apparently this means the system is overheated and this stops the system from being damaged.

I did initial setup with no problems. Added another user and ran auto firmware update. BF4 (on-line) forced a software update too. But no red light of death...........yet. Pre-ordered from GameStop. Got off work, went to the gym, for 1.5 hours, then went to GameStop and picked up my unit. First impressions? Smooth UI, plenty of "Social" features.
Cool is the ability to what friends or other users paly games on-line.

Does anyone happen to know where one can find a full feature comparison PS3 vs PS4? For example, I currently use my PS3 to play music stored on a thumb drive inserted into the console USB port.

The PS3 is a significantly better media player than the PS4. It will take on videos stored on memory sticks and external hard drives, while the PS4 simply won’t. The PS3 also can wirelessly stream files from other devices, which the PS4 – again – can’t do.

What other capabilities/features available on the PS3 are missing on the PS4?

Just discovered regular wired USB headsets work for chat. I thought they were only going to work for audio for now but I was talking to people with mine.
This makes me happy. The one that came with it is garbage.

I arrived! Just finished the system update which took less than a minute to download and only a couple to install. Currently setting up the system, going to start Resogun and Contrast, and then check out Shadowfall. I will post twitch live streaming info later. I need to get some food first before I really get into that.

Finally got a chance to use the ignore option.

For me I guess?

I'm sorry but claiming a 7850 is high end on release and PS4 holds its own to 7970 crossfire is wrong and you'll get picked up on it. I thought you could take the information onboard at least but maybe there's another reason for the wild claims.

Anyway back to PS4, DF has done some frame rate tests

Seems Killzone MP isn't 60fps most of the time like the devs claimed and actually 40s with low action and sometimes 30s when up close to one or two dudes shooting but its only one map in the video. Only reaches 60 when no one is on screen.

I watched some streams and noticed the forest level had the worst frame rate so maybe its a worst case.

Really worried about my preorder now. I hope I don't get unlucky like this lot.

I wouldn't worry too much. On a scale of 1-5 (1 meaning not at all), how often would you write a review on amazon when the item works as described? Now, using the same scale, how likely would you be to write a review when something didn't work? I can't remember the last time I wrote an amazon review and I've used them hundreds of times.

The preorder numbers were very high. A few hundred DOA consoles isn't too bad all things considered. I should get mine on Monday and I'm looking forward to it. I might wait a while before downloading the 1.5 firmware though.

Im probably the wrong person to ask as I would never write a review in either situation, more likely to post on forums. And I agree that pre orders were high but that's still quite a lot of unhappy people. Just hope I'm not one in two weeks time.

Likewise. I admit, I got a bit worried myself. I'm importing from the states and it's not going to be easy sending it back to Sony if there's a problem. On the bright side, the PS4 is apparently very repairable, so if this turns into a fiasco, I may just take it to a computer repair store. It would be nice to see how many PS4s are in the hands of consumers. If it's as much as I expect, then it's a very reasonable failure rate. Some of the failures are hardware failures, whereas others could possibly be fixed with a bit of firmware.

Be sure to check the HDMI port on the console before plugging in. Apparently, there is a piece of metal sticking up in some ports, causing it to break HDMI cables. It can be fixed by applying pressure to the piece of metal until it is flush with the port.

Thanks for the heads up, I'd read about the hdmi issue. Will be watching how the situation develops with interest. Good luck for Monday.

Yeah, does come across as faults are higher than usual. Hardware can be fixed pretty quickly though.

Concerning for me is how the OS has got corrupted in the streams I've watched and doing stuff while the game is running in the background can lead to a crash and the data wiped.

I'm not getting either system until my PS3 dies, but I was looking at the PS4 page on Amazon just for heck of it, and it did not look good. Review for one bundle I think had over couple hundred 5-star reviews, but just as many 1-star reviews due to defective/non-working units. When I read mcfizzle's post in here last night, his ordeal with Amazon, I was worried for him, after he received his PS4. Very glad to hear it's worked out OK.

This should become a serious hit to SONY. Xbox 360's red ring of death was one thing, but they weren't kicking people in the nuts on the launch day, to fans who patiently waited for the release day. I've owned both PS3 & Xbox 360, but I'm not gonna lie, I do find myself pulling for the Playstation, though I've always said that you couldn't really go wrong with either console. I hope SONY take care of the Playstation 4 owners & fix the situation FAST. These defective deliveries are unacceptable.

Unfortunate that Digital Foundry seems to be the go to site for tech analysis. After numerous questionable issues I've/others have come across with their articles/tech analysis, they haven't been on my reliability list for a long while. Their recent admission to botching their BF4 PS4/X1 vid capture doesn't help.

Its unfortunate whats happening with the broken PS4s. Time will tell if we have another red ring of death scandal, with estimates varying between 10%-50% failure rate for the 360 console. But I very much doubt it.

But theres one thing to keep in mind. If Sony sold 500,000 PS4s over the last 2 days (a conservative estimate), and 5,000 broke, thats a failure rate of 1%. 200 people complaining on Amazon is a very small number when you look at the big picture. Even if 10,000 broke down, thats still just 2%. Not excusing Sony at all, just saying its not a black plague.

Sony is offering a 36 month warranty on the PS4 for $49.99, and $59.99 covers accidental damage. Anyone who buys a PS4 should get one.

For those of you who have yours now, does it come with component cables like before? I know my little bro's WiiU only came with HDMI, and I don't have a TV that supports it (excluding this tiny 19 in. TV that he uses)

It's far too early to tell what the real situation is. So all the figures being thrown about at the moment are meaningless. I just feel sorry for all those parents who have bought a PS4 for their kids for Christmas and will find out on Christmas Day that they have a brick. Hopefully Sony can work quickly to determine the issue and put measures in place to limit its effect.
