I have never understood the need for comparisons between the performance of the PS4, and high-end gaming rigs. When I started playing video games, you were lucky to play one with more than 1-bit colour. Does it really matter if the PS4 cannot display as many level of anti-alasing as the best Nvidia GPU? Of course it does not.

I play games from across the span of the thirty years, that I have been actively gaming. What keeps me coming back, time and time again, is the gameplay. Compared with yesteryear, the graphics we see in the games of today, are almost photo-realistic in nature. It honestly feels to me, that some comments are merely splitting hairs - the argument is that tedious, bordering on the anal retentive.

I know that when I turn on my PS4, I will not be querying the fidelity of the GPU, but rather, immersing myself within the PlayStation brand. Games have never looked so good, so put away the 'anorak arguments', and enjoy the games that we are privileged to be playing at this moment in time. PlayStation forever! (not wanting to sound like much of a fan boy).

Totally. All people should know is its got a lot more power than the PS3 and its going to have great support from very talented people.

There's always been some mythical hype though like blast processing all the way to PS3 being a 1080p super computer and uber XDR ram, some gamers want to believe. 2006 was a minefield of PS3 super myths but it couldn't even run the PSN store.

I'm reallly hyped by the indie games growing, I think it will keep some devs on their toes and some smaller devs might get picked up for bigger projects. The eco system is really great for devs and getting the content out on these newer systems.

Oh man, even in official looking charts it's being called 'XBONE'

It's amazing that the PS5 can reach that figure week one. I don't see that being beaten. So console gaming is dead, huh?

I seem to recall the 360 also having a disc-scratching problem. And I remember a story about a faulty OG Xbox controller cable causing a house to burn down, killing the family that lived there.

Plus, the percentage of 360s affected by RROD is vastly larger than the % of Sony consoles affected by the listed problems there.

I almost want to laugh at Microsoft's issues but that poor family that just wanted to game...I feel bad for them :(

PS3 had other problems that are not even listed on that list. In terms of defects.... Who knows. Sony and Microsoft are not willing to disclose their defect rates. Can we all just deem them faulty on equal grounds? RROD can mean anything (console gives out a code signifying the defect), so it symbolizes each defect as a whole.

Regarding PS3 having problems other than what's on that list, they must be extremely rare problems because I've never heard of 'em... and I keep up on gaming news, so if they were significant I'd know about them. Furthermore, some of the things on that list are ridiculous. "Wobbled system"? Oh noes! "No real exclusives"? They contradict themselves with the "Indy better than exclusive now thats pathetic" problem later on. Not to mention that some of the indies they're undoubtedly talking about are also exclusives.

I'm not trying to say that PlayStations are close to perfect, but that image is clearly the work of an extremely biased Xbox fanboy. And I honestly believe that a non-biased comparison of the problems plaguing the two platforms, PlayStation would come out of it slightly less scathed than Xbox.

PC Perspective's Ryan did a HDD, SSD, SSHD load time comparison. Useful information for those who have any future endeavor of updating the storage unit in their PS4s. I see no "large" improvement though.

Surprised they shipped the PS4 with a SATA ll drive.

I'll be putting a 1 TB SSD in my PS4. The benefits, while not mindblowing in those tests, are at least consistently tangible... something that cannot be said for most games running on a PS3 with an SSD. Plus I'd imagine that as more of the Blu-ray gets cached to the hard drive in the background, the more apparent the benefits will become. A game fully installed on the hard drive, such as the downloadable Resogun, sees more significant improvements... YouTube videos show Resogun starting up twice as fast on an SSD.

If you think it's worth to spend about 550$, sure.

I wouldn't claim to be buying a 1 TB SSD without knowing how much one costs, so obviously I do think it's worth it.

And despite my comment about most PS3 games not getting any noticable benefit from an SSD, I'm also upgrading my PS3 to a 500 GB SSD which cost me $330. Simply because a small selection of games that utilize the hard drive heavily do get some pretty nice benefits, and not just limited to reduced loading times. Games that stream data from the hard drive also get reduced pop-in and improved framerates, GTA V in particular. I don't forsee GT6 getting any benefits other than faster loading, but we'll see.

Call me crazy, but even if it's not entirely worth it, I also enjoy doing it for the sake of doing it. Like those people who microwave or shoot their PS4's, except at the end of the day mine will still be functional. :P

Amen, brother 👍.

The PS4's HDD is user upgradable. Just snap the glossy black piece in a upwards fashion. You'll see it.

I thought that the HDD in the PS4 was non-user upgradable?

It is user upgradable. It doesn't support external HDDs. I think the Xbox One doesn't allow you to change the internal HDD but does support the external HDDs.

So to those of you who have a PS4, has yours had the RLOD?
I'm going to have to check mine when it arrives now. Was going to get it on Xmas morning but if there are issues I'm going to have to check it.

For anyone wondering how buggy the ps4 and the games we have played are Here are the problems I and 4 friends have ran into.

The UI is a little buggy. Nothing that ruins the experience but sometimes the ps4 thinks we press the PS button and it snaps back to the home screen on its own. This doesn't happen often and should be an easy fix you would think.

Battlefield is completely broken and unplayable. Worst launch in the history of video games.

2k14 is having a few online issues but is still a great game and playable. The park mode is pretty much broken though online and knowing 2k record may never be fixed. Their bad about just not fixing inline modes that don't work.

One of us had a really hard time signing up for PS+. It kept saying invalid credit card number but he went and bought a ps+ card at gamestop and that got him going.

Some games install themselves while others you need to go to downloads and manually hit install to finish the last part of installation I don't know if this is a bug or if this is something the game developer controls. It's not a real big deal once you figure it out but if your not someone who goes deep into UI then you might not figure out why the game won't

One of us had 1 hard system crash that the PS had to run an hdd fix but it's been fine after that.

These are the only problems we have run into. The only really bad one is bf4 and it's a deal breaker for that game. Anyone who is going to buy a ps4 Do not buy battlefield. It's just as bad as everyone says. Wait until it's fixed. One of us hasn't got it to work at all. His crashes on the main menus everytime.

Thanks for the heads up on NBA 2K14 as I'm picking that up.

Issues don't real relate to the PS4 being buggy tho (apart from UI), you might wanna re word the start of your post.

Take many pics of you installing the SSD in. Why? Well, why not?

I'm not sure if it's caused by 2k or the PSN. A lot of times at the bottom of the home screen it says PSN under maintenance so I'm not sure who's to blame. Sony or 2k.

Changed it though for you to add and games.

A cool new feature that I haven't seen reported or talked about it update history or patch notes for games. When the game is highlighted in the menu press options and then update history and you will see patch notes. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to list the update version with the notes but good to know after a generation of patches and not always knowing what they did.

Edit: it seems it's up to the developers as Killzone does list 1.01, 1.02, 1.03 etc and the note for each update.
