Here you go, Xbox One isn't even console, it's PC and it crashes hard. So from Microsoft we can expect only worse than from Sony. Infamous Red Ring of Death in Xbox 360, already gives impressions that Xbox One won't last long.

You have to remember also that those 0.04% of faulty PS4 were sabotaged in factory. I've read article somewhere stating that those student who were forced to help in Sony factory actually were angry and sabotaged some part of production line.

What does lococycle running on PC from June have to do with failure rates? The devs of that game already said for them it was easier to bring the pc build to the show. The game is now running on Xbox One and actually releasing at launch.

PS4 and Xbox One are very similar, both would be regarded as PCs.

How does that justify that the One will be a failure? RROD can mean anything.

Given that the hardware in the Xbox One and PS4 is damn near identical, then that means PS4 is just as much of a PC by your standards as the XBONE. And just looking at the size difference between the PS4 and the XBONE, it's clear that Microsoft decided to play it extra-safe instead of following Sony's approach of putting the hardware in as small of a box as they possibly can.

The PS4's designed well and I don't think it'll experience any widespread failures due to its small size, but the XBONE will undoubtedly be even less likely to experience this due to Microsoft going with a more roomy and less risky design.

We just won't know until 6-12 months. We might get an idea over the next few weeks. Even PS3 stayed well up until 2 years and then ylod started to become prevalent

Sheer specualtion might be right or wrong. ussr could be right but not for the reasons of lococycle or 360.

360 had spacious internals compared to how Sony do PS3 and PS4 but the chips ran hot.

Xbox One could have ESRAM issues. the overclocking done by MS during production to the chip to give more perfomance maybe safe or not. The triple OS may have some issues. Long term the tight PS4 enclosure could see 1-2 years some problems. Power supplies could start failing.

What they both have going for them is AMDs low power APU. PS4 is 130w compared to 200W PS3. I'd expect the XBO to be similar. 360 was 170W. The main failure of YLOD and RROD was the BGA solder cracking.

MS also has made some other hardware since. I would think they have improved plus the last 5 years has been all about powerful compact devices but we just don't know. You could argue MS have been rushed a little but that doesn't mean a reliable system can't be produced.

I don't think it's sheer speculation on my part. Sure the XBONE could have ESRAM issues, overclocking issues, triple OS issues... but it's not likely.

PS4s failing after a year or two due to the tight enclosure is more plausible, but probably only if they're seeing heavy gameplay usage and/or are being put in poorly ventilated areas.

Never Sony's fault.

That's about right for launch consoles. My 1st launch PS2 right out of the box did not work at all. Had to send it into Sony for a replacement. The X1 will also have problems at launch but this site will explode into a frenzy attacking those failures. Yet defending the PS4 failures.
Launch consoles have failures. Always have. Just seems like consoles these days have more problems than older consoles. Amazing that my launch Nintendo and Launch Genesis still work perfect. So if you do get a new PS4 or X1, make sure to get a warranty.

Not directly in this case, but ussr readily admits that these students were forced to work in a Sony factory, which makes it indirectly Sony's fault.

So while ussr does seem biased, I don't feel he's making up excuses on behalf of Sony in this instance.

The only thing I need from my PS4 right now is to be able to pause downloads, they still haven't patched it in the 1.51 patch :(

Voice commands with the camera seem to work fine but aren't of much use for me until I can't use them in netflix. Hopefully more support is added.

I also found out I can use my tv remote to control the menus using hdmi-cec. Works nicely in the menus but unfortunately no support once on Netflix. I really don't want to have to use my DS4 for watching movies and what not.

PS4 is pretty damn basic compared to the X1, that said, the system have been running non stop for the last 24 hours (swaping between PsVita remote control functionality while also keeping a game running, the web browser from which I'm posting and active dls) with no problems whatsoever.

Still, it could use more games.

I should also point out that I bought this out of impulse with no rational backing. To which I don't regret neither I feel compel, time will tell but I like the system, is what a dedicated console should be, kind of like the PS2 was.

Not sure where this fits in this thread.. i didnt read the past 245 pages.... I got a ps4 and it wont accept any games or discs... its like the sensor that activates the "eat disc" function doesnt work.. I called sony and they are sending me a new one.. the rep told me they have some in stock and on hand for cases like mine

Does anyone know what specifically the new update tonight is supposed to do? And would somebody responsible please make a PS4 Firmware thread?

"Sony has gotten its second firmware update out for the PlayStation 4, with revision 1.51. It’s not as big of an update for the console, but its said to improve system stability. It also updates the user interface to indicate when a user downloads a game and a patch at the same time, and other elements.

The update should download while the console is in stand-by mode, if you didn’t change the settings from their default. Once you log back in, you’ll just need to install the update, at which point the system will restart itself.

This will likely be the first of many firmware revisions we’ll see over the first few months of the new hardware, as Sony irons out the kinks, and adds functionality to the console. Users are already making wishlists for the PS4. Some of these items include MP3 playback, fixes to the PlayStation Camera chat functionality, and things like allowing third party capture devices to work with the console". Why only MP3? Because people don't know better? Great...

Judging by the streamlined settings, adding mp3 or music in general will be quite the undertaking. The PS4 definitely does not look like it want to play our own music!

Sure FLAC would be nice, I just want "my" music at this point.

"Shine on you crazy" vinyl sounds so beautiful!!!

Wait, what??! The PS4 can't play imported video and music files? Seriously??

I just now placed an order for one and I'm regretting it already. I thought it 'only did everything'!? I at least expected it to do everything my current playstation does. How can taking out such basic features be progressive?

Gahhh!

I thought it 'only did everything'!?

That was the ps3. Sony have been very clear about the fact that the ps4 is first and foremost a gaming machine.

I understand it may annoy some, but it is what it is. They will update things over time.

I'd of preferred if they were clearer. They've certainly not eluded to these facts in television adverts or specification lists where they're being bought from. Perhaps its very clear to people who follow the press releases and such but as a 'normal' consumer I kind of expected the new playstation to be a better old playstation. 'It only does games' would probably be a more appropriate tag line.

i wanted to share here fyi, sorry if already been shared by someone. here's my experience for racing wheels owner:

Wheels are not working, not even recognized by the system. I tried a DFGT, a G25 and a Fanatec Porsche. I plugged them into the ps4 through usb and start the system.. they don't even calibrate and don't work even in the menu. I mean they are not recognized, like nothing is connected.
So i tried to start NFS for ps4 to see if it depends on the game but off course they still don't work. If you turn down the controller it says you nothing plugged into player 1 port.
So at the moment they don't work at all. Off course this is an insane let down for me as DFGT owner and racing game fan.
ps: i do not have ps4 and all the wheels, we ( as a group of player) tried our wheels on one ps4 of a friend

That's EXACTLY what happened with my very first launch PS2. Sorry to hear your are having problems. :(

After reading through the replies and hearing feedback on the PS4, its sounding very buggy and unfinished. The X1 will be the same way. Its such a shame all these years later consoles still have issues at launch. Its exactly why I no longer buy launch consoles. In fact the PS2 was the first and last console I purchased at launch. Now I wait about 6 months. :)
