Indeed, hopefully things improve 2/3 years in. I know when I was looking into buying a console in 2007 Xbox 360 was the obvious choice, PS3 just didn't have a good line-up for me back then. By last year though things were very solid and I think I've played more exclusive PS3 games than 360.

Holiday 2015 may be when I really decide I need to pick up a console, maybe even 2016. Just depends what NEW games they announce between now and then.

Gutted No Man's Sky appears to be a PS4 exclusive, but only because realistically I don't see myself getting one in the next 12 months. Once it has a GT, then I would find it imperative to buy one.

Man it looks really nice in white! But they shouldn't have the middle bit black.

I guess the rumours about a new SKU didn't happen, at least for now.

It is only a timed exclusive. Note they said "First" on PS, not exclusive to PS.

While there were a couple of indie games at E3 that definitely look promising like No Man's Sky, I still think it'll take a little more time before we see a true influx of next-gen games worth buying a system for. I already have my PS4 and love it but so far I can't fully recommend it as a purchase for lack of games (unless you're a trigger-happy console consumer like me) and there's still a lot of life in the old platforms. There's really only one game that had me truly salivating: Bloodborne - the spiritual successor to Demon's Souls and a PS4 exclusive. That won't be out for another year anyway and by that time we should see a multitude of big games released.
System sellers for me would be the next Red Dead game, MGS 5, GT7, etc. and those are, obviously, still in the pipeline. Add to that the burgeoning possibilities of Project Morpheus (I want space dogfighting back!) and the future is looking brighter and brighter.

Okay, here we go.

Full on retardation, just when I thought Sony was getting closer to Steam territory, 🤬 that, I rather just get an old PS2 and play on it, or simply stay on PC and wait for emulators to emulate properly.

Renting (long term) is always more expensive than buying a game. If I go to my local Redbox I can rent a PS3 game (no 8th gen systems yet) for $2 a night, Sony's pricing is better than that. I'd much rather see the option to subscribe to the service, kind of like GameFly. Instead of paying for each individual game I'd like to see a monthly fee that would allow you to stream as many games as you like for as long as you like. Maybe Sony will offer something like that in the future.

I logged in the other day and seen some of the prices. $5 for four hours. I was thinking maybe $5 a week. There is no way this will work. They will have to drop the prices drastically. Maybe $1 a day or something. Plus the service is pretty useless as it is now. The latency is so high there is no way to play shooters or racing games. I honestly can't think of any game type that would be playable with how bad the latency is right now on it. I would say there's at least 1/4 second between inputs and on screen actions. It might even be higher than that.

I will not complain completely at the service. So far, the prices that we have seen have been for PS3/PSN titles, and the proof is there that they will be cheaper going from platform to platform. Also, the PS2 and PS1 prices are justified, regardless of where they will ultimately be set, because they will have trophy support and they will be enhanced for HD and DS4 control.

Another point to bring out is that Sony has done some market research because obviously there isn't an intermediate value between 4 hours (good for short stints) and 7 day (Typical Blockbuster fare) rental periods, and the 7 day rentals are in fact, if you compare value to value, more valuable for the money than they 5 day rental period that Blockbuster offered before they got bought out by Dish.

So while not everyone can beat a game in 4 hours, nor should they try, the 7 day rental period can get the job done.

Oh, one more thing, @Samus, I too think that it is silly for testers to pay for the service while it is in beta.

Well I've caved in, got a great price for a used PS4 and decided to take it. Bought it along side Second son, has NFS rivals, 2 DS4s and a PS plus subscription.

Made a spontaneous purchase of Sniper Elite 3 after watching a couple streams. It wasn't a game on my radar whatsoever before that but it has turned out to be a great purchase. Not a perfect game by any means but really enjoyable and refreshingly different from other military shooters.

I think I'm the only one that didn't like Frozen. I think that movie would've been great if the girl were trained by Sub-Zero to harness her powers.
Trust me you are not the only one. I didn't care for it at all.

I played Sniper Elite 2 and loved it. Major sleeper hit IMO. Really looking forward to checking out the 3rd game. The slow motion detailed shots are so rewarding. Reminds me of the Vats system in Fallout 3. :D
