Pokémon Games Discussion Thread (Gotta Discuss 'Em All!)

I hope those who consider the current state of the game unacceptable vote accordingly with their wallets.

Me on the other hand? I’ve booked Friday off work and I’m gonna play the 🤬 out of it this weekend. :D

It’s pretty much inevitable that I’ll get the game gifted to me at some point considering my brother. He’s a diehard fan and will probably force me to play it. It’s just a shame that we hold such opposing opinions about the state of the franchise.

Personally, Game Freak flat-out lied about this game and their reasons for doing certain things, so they won’t be receiving any of my own money in the future until the way certain things are handled change.

I’m glad some people are able to enjoy the game and I hope they do so, but I won’t be joining until I’m forced to. At that point, might as well play the game because I didn’t spend any of my dollars on it. Maybe then the game can prove me wrong.

No day off for me but I may be picking up the game tomorrow anyway. If not then Friday. And patience. And hours at work that don't seen to end.

I agree that if the issues the game have bother someone that much then they have to vote with their wallet otherwise they are validating what the devs have done.

Precisely - I won’t defend the parts people are really, really frustrated with and I hope their ‘sacrifice’ and protesting ultimately makes a difference that brings them back onboard the series.

That being said, the core Pokémon loop is here and as such - I will be too. I just love hunting for shinies and making new teams that I’d usually not go for. Plus, the soundtrack should be phenomenal too. As far as series that have lost their way go - Pokémon aint there for me personally but having been so disappointed in the trajectory of other series, I can see the viewpoint.

I’m going to be honest, it’s not so black and white for me when it comes to the next Pokémon game. I don’t want to keep droning on and seem all angsty so I’ll keep this brief.

My brother and I have been exchanging Pokémon games during the holidays since LeafGreen and Emerald and we’ve both been massive fans of the series growing up. My first Pokémon was a Blastoise that I still have with me to this day on Ultra Sun.

This is the first time since 2005 that my Blastoise won’t be joining me in the new region. At first I was ok if that meant the game would be significantly improved because of it like GT Sport was to the PS3 games, but then it turns out through the leaks all of Game Freak’s excuses were pure baloney and it didn’t really need to be that way.

I’m torn because I feel like I’m going to be pressured into having to buy a game from a company I no longer wish to financially support for the time being.

What makes this more sad though is the fact that these are the first Pokemon games released for the Nintendo Switch yet, it already seems a big disappointment. Oh well.

That's pretty cool about having brought your Blastoise up through the years, I didn't play Gen 3 or 4 personally so I haven't been bringing stuff up like that but man if I could have brought my OG Typholsion up that would make my day.

Even with the things being said that no national dex in future games again I'm currently working on getting all the Pokemon I can with their home regions as their caught areas through the virtual console and OR/AS games since I don't have a regular DS to transfer original Ruby and Sapphire mons up with. This makes my first play throughs of Sinho kinda cool because I am catching as much as possible in a Professor Oak Lite challenge, which isn't how I'd normally play.

I'm torn on Sw/Sh though, these are the first games I could really play with my daughters especially since I can put them on the TV and have all 3 there with me a little more comfortably then they can all go on their own adventures as well but these games just look so disappointing... I had the dual pack pre-ordered and ended up canceling that a few days ago. We'll see how the girls get along at school mostly, I doubt they will remember tomorrow that they could have been playing but if their classmates mention it I may still end up getting them.

Seems like a lot of reviewers found problems with the games, then rated them a minimum of 80% from what I have seen so far. :odd:
Not sure what kind of issues these people are looking for that would bring their scores down to a level that at least from the outside seems more appropriate.

It is missing. There is link trading (local and friend list) and secret trade (which is wonder trade with a delay) no form of GTS at all.
The server isn't fully online yet (I think?). Maybe coming later in some form.

Or har har Pokémon Home microtransactions.

Likely the same reason why Death Stranding rated so high. Though in that case it's rather less egregious than Pokémons, but the reason is there.

As if anyone needed more proof that Game Freak is out of touch, the game releases in only a couple hours time and they still haven’t officially revealed the evolution lines of the starter Pokémon. The only reason we even know about them is due to the leaks.

Is it not this this? :yuck::indiff:

Picked up my copy of Shield this lunchtime. I've done the hard bit of deciding what I look like and what my name is and will be commencing my traditional slow playthrough this evening.

There are some reports online that auto save may cause problems with normal saves. It can be switched off in options.

So I do really like the Box Link, since it removes downtime and greatly reduces the need to run back to town for certain things. It really feels like one of those "why didn't we have this a long time ago" features.

Dynamaxing is fairly interesting, surprisingly it feels much less gimmicky than Z-moves did despite being essentially kept to its own subgame. Also seems like it'll be a good way to get some rare items and stuff to sell so hopefully there's no long stretches of wandering around broke like some of the older games had. Then again, seeing how much some of the clothing options go for, I'm expecting there's a point where money stops being a concern unless you get really irresponsible with your purchasing.

Haven't really touched the camp thing yet, seems like it's the same concept as previous games where you be nice to your pokeys to make them happier, but having your entire team out all at once instead of one at a time is pretty neat.

Wait hold up. I never see this trainer on the right from the demo after watching all of gameplay videos. Maybe another custom player trainer?

I’m pretty sure she was the first ever revealed CPU trainer at the game’s announcement.

Looks like my sister has decided not to buy the new Pokemon Shield. At least not in launch.

The reports also say that it could tamper and delete the saves from other games?

Apparently what's happening is if the game crashes while it's auto saving, the SD card is getting corrupted. No one is exactly sure if the crashes are a result of the autosave though.

Regardless, switching off autosave and properly closing the game instead of leaving it in suspend mode is probably a good idea, as is making a backup of your saves.

That's just... awful. :yuck:

Imagine having multiple saves with tons of progress in the games on your card and this happens. It's a sudden goodbye.

To be fair, this isn't a widespread thing that we know of, and there's not a lot of exact data about what caused the game to crash yet.

Obviously, since the game is just a day old but the good thing is, at least it was reported as early as this week? Because if it wasn't, then there would have been some outrage going already for those who have bought the game and after a few months, have experienced crashes themselves while the game is auto-saving.

I guess this is the first Pokemon game to have the said feature, unless I'm wrong if the Gen 7 games had it first. So that's why it still has some issues with it.

It could also be a problem with the SD cards and have nothing to do with the game itself.

I was just reminded that Tesla has has problems with the solid state memory in early Model 3s wearing out prematurely due to it being written to excessively while being near capacity. It could just be that their SD cards were full and had been so heavily used over the last year or two that they finally decided to give out when the game started accessing them at short intervals.

Same. It does look better than Let's Go but not so good in the open area. I'm 5:11 hours in and at the first gym.
Likewise! 7 hours played and not left the first major town. Production value compared to previous games is awesome.
