Hmmm so I'm rereading the article and from what I understand it's the FIA giving their certification to the tracks already modeled in GT6? They looked at the tracks and gave them their seal of approval? My hype train is really confused right now.

I have no idea either, but hopefully it's a first step towards implementing some rules and more realistic races...

So what exactly is the point of this?

Don't know. I kind of think maybe PD should stop focusing on new content, and actually attempt to fix this broken pile of crap known as GT6. Maybe add some half decent AI, sounds, single player and what not? Consistant graphics would also be nice. But no, lets keep doing all sorts of new things, so that we can add more and more unfinished stuff to the already unfinished game.

I see the hype train is going to get out of control on this one.

The FIA have certified four in-game tracks so far. The "FIA Gran Turismo World Championship" (or whatever they want to call it) can be created and "Run" by the FIA. It'll be an officially sanctioned championship. It has nothing to do (directly) with the rights to any cars, or tracks, unless they FIA own those rights - which they won't.

However, this means the likes of Porsche will need to re-consider their other agreements, unless they want to be absent from a new FIA sanctioned championship.

I couldn't give a toss about the championships, it'll only really apply to the top 0.05% of players. But the weight this ives the franchise is tremendous, and I'm sure we'll all benefit.

I can also see how this could be linked to community features, since online will have to be scrutinisable like never before!

For those wondering about F1, Bernnie holds the commercial rights to F1 and that includes video games.

In terms of what this means. PD will likely have "easy" (not free and not guaranteed) licensing to FIA series such as the WEC, WTCC, WRC, Formula 3, World Rally Cross and FIA sanctioned karting. Everything else is owned and operated by other organizations.

For those that do not know one of the biggest components of the FIA other than managing the listed series above, is safety. Car safety, track safety, driver safety, etc. I would not be surprised if this was integrated into GT in the form of a video or "experience". This is a big agenda for them.

I would like to think this puts more pressure on Porsche, but I won't hold my breath.

In the end, this deal give PD more clout in terms of licensing motorsports content.

You're moaning about content being unfinished when it doesn't even exist yet?

Half, at least, of your positive experiences in life come from a positive mental attitude. This isn't one of them. This also doesn't need to be turned into a GT moan/fix it/GT SUX thread anytime soon.

Stop focusing on this bringing new cars! It's MUCH bigger than that! This is FIA officials actually getting their hands dirty with online racing for the first time ever! This is breaking entirely new grounds.

This is (potentially) PD making new tools for the FIA in order to run championships to their standard and will be to the benefit of regular people who run online series as they'll (hopefully) have access to the same toolset. This is the FIA promoting Gran Turismo online racing through a huge world-wide media portal. This is Gran Turismo's eSport arrival. This is our current top drivers', only known to us (unless they became GT Academy champions), chances to become professional Gran Turismo 6 players and being flown around the world to compete in tournaments! This is going to stimulate GT's online competitive community like nothing else has ever stimulated anything like it before. This is a big deal and I could go on forever about it.

So now with that said and you guys being on the right train of thought, I'll leave the rest to your imagination.

I think what it comes down to is the success of GTA and the talented drivers that are coming out of the program. Who are subsequently going straight into some of the largest racing events on the planet. The FIA has taken notice of GT and with that came a huge PR opportunity for PD. So now they can say "Gran Turismo has the most realistic tracks certified by the FIA."

So right now it isn't much more than a PR move but down the road we will start seeing more certifications and more track updates as well as new tracks I'm sure. I don't see anywhere in the article saying that this an exclusive partnership. But GT and PD definitely have the jump on everyone else if this starts to become the benchmark for racing games and simulators.

PD's track record is a very good indication of what will happen with whatever content comes out of this. Unfinished.

I am curious to know which 4 tracks have the FIA Seal of approval.
We can strongly assume Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Red Bull Ring. Which one is the 4th?
Bathurst. Maybe Spa.

...

Prepare to be dissapointed beyond belief.

Do you not realize how much licensing that would take?
maybe it's not expecting, but just imagine. sorry dude, I'm too excited with this :eek:

FS7
Or instead of spending time & money to license and create official team liveries PD could include the base models of each GT3 car + livery editor, and players in the GT community would create and share all the team liveries you can think of for free.
sounds good if they give us this feature

Kaz went on to travel around the world carrying FIA Badge of Approval, making deals with licensing of cars, teams and tracks. They would less likely say no when Kaz flashed his FIA badge

What are the 4 tracks ? Silverstone, Spa, Bathurst, Brands Hatch, Willow Springs ... Nordschleife ... Nurburgring.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the FIA only regulate the safety and the rules of the motorsports not the licensing of the actual cars? As far as I know the cars and their licensing for use in video games would be something that would have to be negotiated with the manufacturers and teams.
