By the way, the big way that this will help in getting more licenses is that now, people looking to get their cars in GT will look at its nice new badge saying "FIA certified." Could be the one last push certain license holders needed in order to bring their content to GT.

So don't expect the FIA to now be able to give PD a bunch of access themselves, they're organizers, not the owners of the licenses. That's not to say that the FIA can't help them open up a lot doors and such though.

I think the Certified tracks are Spa, Le Mans, Silverstone and Red Bull Ring, just going by the FIA site, and the tracks in GT6 that are newly modeled.
Can a "certified" track improve the experience if you have the SAME track already but until yesterday FIA didn't bother "certifing" it?

hsv
COTA is the only FIA active U.S race track to my knowledge.

Someone correct me if my brain's broken.
It's the only Grade 1 certified track. Most major racing venues have some kind of FIA certification. I think Barber Motorsports Park was given a 1T certification as it had been designated as the test circuit for the hugely failed USF1 team. Everything else that is major is grade 2, barring ovals which get grade 3(?) certification.

I remember GTR2 license was solely based on FIA GT 2003 and 2004 licence. At the time SimBin didn't get any commercial deal with Porsche and Ferrari, they bought FIA licence, so they had all the cars available, Porsche and Ferrari included.

While I'd rather not expect some miraculous content suddenly appearing out of that new partnership (no hype train here) , I'm looking forward to whatever this might bring us in the future > more racing cars , real events , real racing rules , yellow flags ...

Even if this would not influence the game at all (We know it will because they planned a online competition next year) this is a great accomplishment and honor for PD.

To be honest I couldn't care less if F1 was coming to GT but WTCC, DTM or more GT3 would be most welcome :D

What about FIA European Truck racing?

those things are badass

I really feel the need to stress that this partnership is very unlikely to mean that existing FIA sanctioned events (the rights to which are normally held by the organisers and promoters NOT the FIA) find their way into the game.. it's more likely to mean that Gran Turismo forms the basis for a NEW FIA sanctioned event.

I'm also wondering, since cars would need to be homologated, whether or not PD and a manufacturer (or drinks company :D) will come up with a spec car?

Another possibility (however unlikely) is that FIA will offer a “Virtual FIA License” through future Gran Turismo games. In order to participate in various FIA events, you need a license, the pinnacle of which is the FIA Super License, which you need to participate in F1.

It would not be inconceivable that an “FIA Virtual License” could contribute to the application for an FIA International License.

If the tracks are FIA licensed, the cars are within a certain standard of performance and the scenarios designed within GT meet certain real world criteria, I do not think a situation like this is unrealistic. GT Academy obviously only helps this argument.

I still don't get why there are only 4 FIA certified tracks, Nuburgring GP,Silverstone,Spa, RedBull Ring, Monza, Suzuka are all F1 tracks, the likes of Brandshatch, Bathurst, and more are accurate aswell. Which 4 and why 4 exactly?

Perhaps because some of the older GT5 tracks (Monza, Suzuka, Fuji) are not the same as they are today?

@sems4arsenal I would imagine they just haven't gotten to the others yet. Or maybe the standards are high enough that the others didn't make the cut. Something tells me that update 1.10 will include some kind of icon next to the certified tracks that will give us the answer.
