Downloading and playing a game on PC really isn't that complicated.
No it's not, but if you want to play your games in the comfort of your living room, then you probably don't want the hassle of having a PC in there.

I am surprised however that Sony want to go in this direction when Microsoft are going in the other and buying up game studios to create exclusive stuff for Xbox/PC.

If GT7 does come to PC, I would buy it and play it, regardless of the many faults (which have been discussed on these forums ad nauseam) for no other reason than it's about time a franchise like this breaks out of its platform exclusivity. I don't really see any convincing argument as to why it shouldn't, to say nothing of the many comments that seem entirely insincere.

I don't where people are getting the idea that GT7 would automatically be moddable. You know good well it wouldn't be. They don't allow you to do much as it is now with settings (FOV or HUD for example) let alone have free reign through their game.
They didn't for GT2, GT3, GT4, GT5, GT6 or GTPSP either; and yet for literally years the only activity happening in any one of those subforums has been about people (usually just individual people, too) tinkering around with bugfixes/mods of those games that are at the newest 9 years old. Not the latest game in the franchise being dumped on Steam in the afterglow of its initial console release.

Whether something is built like Duke Nukem 3D and whether something is moddable in the context of "it's an even vaguely popular game and people will throw hours upon hours of unpaid time towards breaking it open regardless of the intent of the publisher/developer" has pretty frequently been irrelevant in distinction. And I'm sure if/when PD releases a GT game on PC they'd love for it to remain an always-online locked down glorified NFT market simulator with occasional races interspersed within, but I've no belief that that's how it would remain short of Sony deciding that they want to slipstream rootkits into their software again.

There is no problems with cheating on pc side. That is a myth. At least on the simracing side of things
Im not sure in witch mirrorverse you life but one of the first thing that pops up if you tipe in pc cheating racing is Acc since 2020.
The farm bots there are written for gt7 via remoteplay an so on.

Pc is the masterclass plattform for cheating.

No crossgaming and they can do what they want.

Virtually every major release has cheaters, regardless of the platform, even on GT7 as we speak. That's a poor reason to deprive a potential PC port of crossplay. All it would do is needlessly gate the PC players from the already established playerbase on PlayStation. And for what? That's not the right way to curb cheating.

The best time to open the series up to PC would be with a new game built from the ground up with a PC version in mind, instead of trying to shoehorn it into the middle of GT7's shelf life.

Im not into cheating but so far i know is using a glitch and cheating are 2 diffrent things. I didnt know 1 cheat for gt7.
And yeah some titels can be cheated but only in combination with a pc like savegame manipulation. Ps5 by its own is no way to cheat in Gt7

with this we need daiki kasho spotify playlist and all other songs of gt7 released for PC to expand gran turismo brand even more and anti cheat systems to prevent many pc cheaters from ruining Yamauchi-san's game

The crew 2 nearly died for me the amount of people exploiting glitches etc on console it was no different on pc sad people just like breaking stuff.

Obviously you need more than just a console to cheat. That's kind of the point of a cheat or a hack. To use tools that aren't provided to you to gain an advantage you're not supposed to have. Cheaters aren't limited by pesky things like system limitations. If they want to cheat on the game and platform of their choice, they will. What methods they use, whether they use a PC or not to achieve it, doesn't matter. If the target system is a PlayStation, they're cheaters on PlayStation.

This is in no way specifically the fault of PC gaming or the choice to use a PC to play a video game. This is still not a good reason why we shouldn't have crossplay, if this PC port were to exist one day. I'm not even certain that there would be more cheaters on PC than PlayStation. I don't think it's unfair to say "Most PC players just don't cheat" and I do think it's unfair to keep platforms gated in the name of anti-cheating. I realize not every game can have something like Valve's Overwatch or VAC but there are proper, better anti-cheat solutions.

@SU_Tempest
I never sayed all pc gamer are cheater but its more likly to happen on pc first then on consols.
But its maybe me, im not a big fan of pc gaming and if seen to mutch what happens with cheating on Pc.
And again, so far i know in Gt7 there are no cheats.

That's the thing though. I know "cheating is more likely on PC" is a common belief but... Is it really? That's the part where I disagree. I'm not saying I'm 100% sure cheating never happens on PC, but I think we just don't have the data to be 100% sure if it's more or less. The percentage, whatever it may be, can't be that large. Otherwise, even PC-only online games just wouldn't be popular at all.

It's perfectly fine if PC isn't for you! It's my platform of choice just like (I assume!) PlayStation is yours. I'm just really not sure GT7 has no cheats at all. I'm not personally aware of any (nor do I think naming names would do anything but get me banned), but considering how quickly the community found ways to grind credits in the face of an economy they judged too harsh, there has got to be some people who figured out a few cheats for online racing.

At the end of the day, it's a matter of risk assessment. How many are there truly, what's worth curbing (e.g., not the same thing to stop credit farming vs. cheaters in online races), and what Sony implements.

@SU_Tempest

Hmm thats not a belive. I have a couple friends on pc and they are constently flaming about online cheating and they stoped playing on pc and went over to console.

It happens on consols for sure but it will be fixed with a system update or ingame update way faster then on Pc. The tools on pc got so big they have there own market place for those stuff if you dig deep enough.

There are no out and out cheats in GT7.

There are exploits and glitches that all players can abuse.

But there's no way for a player to make changes to the game or to the console itself to give themselves an advantage.

Do we know that for sure? This is a genuine question.

You’d be risking a ban, and it can only be done on PS4 since the PS5 has only been jailbroken by very few, and it’s on old firmware, and potentially unstable. You’d have to keep making new accounts, or even get a new console since Sony can console ban you.

Even then, I don’t know if things like grip or aero values are editable yet. They might be stored within the executable which requires reverse engineering to understand what’s what. Which is legal, if you do it clean-room, but then going online with an edited executable requires a modded console, which can get you banned.

And thats why i have no probs with always online to prevent those stuff.

Well, OK. I stand corrected in that case, it makes sense to me. Thank you all for the explanations, it's good to see the anti-cheat situation on PlayStation is as good as it currently is. I wish PC gaming could get to that point, especially on some games (cough)forzahorizonleaderboards(cough).

But
... I still want that PC port. It's still my platform of choice, I could live without crossplay (even if I still think it would be just a little unfair). Hope you won't blame me for that. :D

You would need to exploit/jailbreak the console to begin with because you can not log in to PSN with an older firmware. And if that happened, cheating in GT7 would be the smallest of Sony's issues - opens the doors to piracy among other massive problems.

(And as it stands even if that was out of the way, it would take quite some time before anyone would even successfully cheat, given that the few people with a minimum of game internals knowledge are far from skilled enough to do these things - but still - a matter of time).

9.00 is the latest jailbroken firmware, right? Not to delve too much into it as I’m unsure if it’s allowed on GTP, but I forgot about that. So cheating is non-existent, because newer/current firmware hasn’t been exploited. @SU_Tempest, what I mentioned are things that disincentivise modding an online only game, but to Nenkai’s point, only a few have knowledge of what to change to allow for an advantage.

Then again, I think the PC market is much stiffer competition for realistic racing games in general. You've got ACC, for one, not to mention the elephant in the room: iRacing. I always thought the whole appeal of Sport Mode was that it's effectively a much more accessible version of iRacing. So if GT is released on PC, I don't really know what demographic PD is gonna be aiming for, since on PC, iRacing is a very enticing option.
I don't see how iRacing is a more enticing option when you have to pay a monthly subscription plus having to pay for each individual car and track. GT7 has 35 tracks now, how much money will it cost to get the same amount in iRacing? For a casual racer GT7 offers way more bang for your buck. ACC for example has only 14 tracks, most of them being paid DLC.
