Prepare to be disappointed when the first inboard videos surface.Difficult to tell from the vids how it sounds top of the rev range in a lower gear... it needs to have a high rev howl!!
I've had my GTi for over a year now and I still can't drive it as smoothly as I would like to. The stock throttle mapping is junk. I've thought about getting a stage 1 equivalent tune to see if it helped. I miss the days of cable driven throttles. It makes some cars quite difficult to drive. Something like a VW Up sheds revs so slowly that you basically can't change gear quickly and smoothly at the same time. You can do one or the other, but try and slam through a change and you get a big lunge as there's a mismatch of road speed and throttle opening.

Yeah, it's weird. Mapping is definitely the issue, rather than the medium - there's no reason an electronic throttle can't open just as quickly - if not quicker - than a cable one, but emissions requirements and engineering to reduce things like driveline shunt and jerkiness mean most are set up with a bit of slack. I've driven cars with sport modes that do fix things somewhat though.I've had my GTi for over a year now and I still can't drive it as smoothly as I would like to. The stock throttle mapping is junk. 2009 3-door. It's not a bad car except for the check engine light (imagine that!) that comes on and turns off multiple times a month while it waits for me to replace a bad thermostat that I keep ignoring. Oh, and the airbag light came on for who knows what reason, but that one you can only get rid of my paying the dealership $80 for a diagnosis. All this with 68k miles on the odo. What GTi do you have?
That car turns into a Completely different Animal with a single Stage 1 ECU tune, I would get it ASAP. Having had a Similar engined 2.0T Audi A3 I can tell you this from experience.2009 3-door. Maybe after I fix it's issues. Have all the parts, it just requires removal of the intake manifold to get to it and not motivated to do that in 100*F+ heat at the moment. That car turns into a Completely different Animal with a single Stage 1 ECU tune, I would get it ASAP. Sooo.. What did they change in this 991.2?
Mainly the new twin turbo engine for the base Carrera models as well as including four wheel steering for them too. Likely some suspension changes too.
They took it very slightly further away from the Beetle in the evolution of rear-engined, bug resembling cars.Sooo.. What did they change in this 991.2?

You have to remove the intake manifold to change the thermostat. One of those "all day jobs to replace a $20 part" deals.A tune will definitely smooth out the throttle mapping. I have the APR stage 1, pretty much any stage 1 tune is the best bang for performance mod on this car. Not sure what you're talking about with removing the intake manifold? The tune is installed via the OBD port by the shop so you only have to mess around with the intake/engine cover if you want an aftermarket one.
BTW I've read about your issues with the car here and on MKV forums and I'm bummed you got what seems to be a dud. Just over 60k on my '08 (very short commute) and have had no major issues.
Considering how many people I have seen with bad thermostats, it's a known issue that VW should have fixed.Oh, I see what you mean now R1600Turbo. I thought you were talking about the tune when saying the intake manifold had to be removed. I dun goofed.
