Looking at the whole structure of GT Sport the car structure very much reminds me of GT2, with road cars and racing versions of them. I would say it is almost a dead cert a race version will be included. Think of it - to finally get the one marque many have clamoured for after many years, and then put in just a road version in a race-orientated game? That would be a sucker punch and middle finger that not even PD would pull.

Most cars in GT Sport seem to have a "racing" version , hopefully the Porsches have them too.

They can't waste this oportunity , they have to milk this license to make up for lost time.

Bet this contributed to the delay!
I thought that as well, but... 6 months to model one(car). From November last year, the car may have been started January last year. PD knew the licence was expiring and no doubt, would have been getting at least one car ready. All they had to do is make a Gr.4, Gr.B and Gr.3 variant.

The pic with the Gr.3 Lancer in its garage, showed a Manthey Racing trailer. However long it took to model design that scene/scape, could have had a Porsche ready to go.

Well, Kaz did mention that when the Porsche license with EA expired, he was going to jump on the opportunity and get them in to Gran Turismo. I can't believe he actually did. The car that's been revealed just happens to be my favourite 911! Now, where is Mark Webber's reaction to winning his first GP...
Oh, here it is (language warning)

Sums up my feelings

First thing I would do once the game arrives is to delve into the game's data files and hope to find something like this:

latest

Would be cool if PD hid another 996 GT3 as a slight nod to what they did in GT3.
Thanks for using our images. Always humbling to see something from Gran Turismo Wiki's servers right here. :)

Really happy hearing this news. Porsche finally in GT is like dreams come true. While Porsche already featured in other racing games recently, to see it in GT is just like... a revelation. An ode to joy I supposed to say.
