Porsche Not in FM4 Confirmed (Originally Porsche may be in Forza 4. Check this out).

Before Shift 2 was released, I saw a Q&A live video from SMS. I remember one of the questions was if they had the right to use Ferrari. I remember clearly the positive "Yes" from one person in the video; that they just didn't think Ferrari's were needed in their game. I will try to find the video.

I for, for one, am happy about the loss of Porsche. 1) I like RUF better anyway, and 2) now the Forza fbs are in the same place as the GT fbs: no Porsche. Now, when GT6 comes along and people go "Well, GT doesn't have any Porsches." I can go: "Well, FM4 doesn't have Porsche, either."

EDIT: Another plus is because Porsche's gone...that opens up 35 slots for brand new cars like the Cougar Eliminator, Hummer H1, Syclone and others. So...it may sting initially that Porsche's gone, but don't think for a moment that Turn10 won't fill up Porsche's unused slots with awesome cars.

It's a shame Porsche is gone and I love the whole idea of boycotting EA published games but I just can't because I haven't even bothered with an EA game since I got my 360 back in 2006.

Now, when GT6 comes along and people go "Well, GT doesn't have any Porsches." I can go: "Well, FM4 doesn't have Porsche, either."

So what you're saying is you like Porsche going away because it gives the "FM crowd" one less 1-up over GT? Wow...

As I said before...and he wonders why people give him flack when they do. Stop saying things that's going to trigger some shaded response and there won't be a problem.

The way I see it is Microsoft has the initiative "We'd rather arm our direct competition with Ferrari (which we've done, thank you, EA) than you." :P

I guess sometime down the road, T10 could always pull an EA & release a Porsche pack like they did for Shift 1 with Ferrari.

If people didn't go, "Well, GT sucks 'cause it doesn't have Porsches, but FM does have Porsches so it's better than GT." EVERY TIME a GT game is released, then I wouldn't have to make such a comment. But, it REALLY does get annoying when people make that argument over and over and over and over. I mean...EA has the exclusive Porsche liscense, now, does that make FM4 a crappy game? Does it make NFS The Run the king of racers? No. And I hope, after playing a Porsche free Forza, people will realize that and not use that stupid argument ever again. It doesn't matter what cars are in it, it's the gameplay that counts.

And I praise Turn10 for letting go of their Ferrari exclusivity and for saying that exclusive licenses are stupid. They are, but EA has been one to jump on the exclusive license thing....and it's gotten them in trouble recently.

Forza 4, is already shaping up to be an awesome game, with or without Porsche. I encourage people to go out and buy Forza 4 and play it. If you want Porsches in a Forza game, there's 35 in FM3.

My praise for not having Porsches in FM4 has nothing to do with the game. Although, in all fairness, if Forza was REALLY all about fairness in competition, they would have declined to use Porsche unless EA gave up their exclusive license.

Anyway, I hope to get Forza 4 and an Xbox before it ships, but we'll see. I'll see some of you on the track...but certainly not all of you.

I know it is always about money, but if Porsche is rolling in it, why do they need EA's? It does not make much sense. I know they probably do not see it this way but if anything being in a series like NFS hurts their brand image. I know more age brackets than 8-18 play NFS but seriously, who plays NFS and goes to buy a Porsche or thinks that Porsche are somehow cool, even as a brand? Someone at Porsche must think this is worth their while for some other reason that money.

Wasn't Porsche in financial trouble a few years ago? And didn't the German Government turn them down for assistance? I must have been dreaming or something. They need every penny they can get.

I don't play Forza, I play GT5, but "We didn't want to exclude Ferrari cars from other titles as it would hurt the racing ecosystem"
How about following that EA?
And I'm getting tired of not having Porsche in GT5 or Forza and EA just making crappy games out of it more apparently :/

Let's all hope T10 have taken notes from PGR and TDU: two of the best implemented uses of Ruf there's been to date.

At least that I can remember.

Porsche is fine. That was 2 years ago when the entire world was about to melt down. The last 2 years have been very good to Porsche. The way I understand it is that they have some type of special relationship with EA. Not in just a contractual sense but in a personal sense.

Well, we know 2 of the 3 that are in:

The RGT-8:

and the Rt 12 R:

Which leaves only 1 left.

Well, before I had no plans on getting NFS: The Run. Now I'm actively hoping it's panned by the gaming press and is a sales disaster, though there's a good chance of one or both happening (There are reasons no one's tried putting Quick Time Events in a racing game before, you know...).

EA might get a lot of hatred form the hardcore console racing bunch, but honestly I think they couldn't care less, they've never aimed at that market, they just publish or develop crappy racing stuff for the masses (except for the glorious F1 99-02 for PC) and sell a lot. Bastards...

They also made SIMBIN delete the Porsches of the downloadable versions of their old games, so that means you get no Porsches on GT Legends unless you keep using the old Stargate protected game on Windows XP.

These people are making me ambivalently mad... I've never bought a game from them (except the F1 mentioned above thank to ISI's engine), so I can't even plan a symbolic boycott.

Now let's be honest, physics is what matters, I'd rather drive a fictional car on say, Live for Speed, than drive 35 different Porsches on FM3 (let alone any NFS).

I just had better expectations about FM4 physics (which I really doubt will ever mimic the great PC sims because guys appreciating that are simply not their main market).

I can't even say I hate EA, they have always been so irrelevant to me that maybe I'll just miss out the opportunity of watching the great Porsches on Autovista. Just that.

I'm guessing there will be a RUF DLC pack down the road as anyone who buys a regular copy after the first run will only get one RUF.:odd:

I really hope the mystery RUF is either the CTR "Yellow Bird" or the CTR3.

GT doesnt suck because it has no Porsches. It did it all on its own. So I can list 100 reasons, without putting the no Porsche argument in there. Your welcome.

To be honest, I would rather have Porsche in the game than Ferrari.

And everyone saying EA is wasting them on bad games...it just isnt true. Shift2 made great use of the Porsche.

It is a bummer though about FM4. Its not a deal breaker for me, but it is a shot in the arm.

I know Dan said there would be 3 models in the game, but I really hope it isn't just 3. Because...what the hell? 3?!

He mentions the past 18 months and surely they could have modeled/outsourced more Ruf's as a precaution?

You know, the kind of sad thing here is that RUF is like everybody's second best choice. They seem to agree on playing some sick game about being the bitches of the no Porsche licensed games these days... RUF's are awesome cars, that is so ironic...

I honestly find the lack of porsche to be pretty upsetting, having the chance to drive some porsches in FM is the only major draw for me to this series.

I dont understand what you mean.

I see exactly what he means as I was just mulling over the same thing not too long ago: Ruf, no matter how individually unique they are, never comes across as being anything other than "the alternative"; I can see the sense behind it to some degree as Ruf doesn't have as rich of a history as Porsche but at the same time Ruf has it's own rich history: the Yellowbird, BTR Type II, CTR 2, etc. It's almost as if the two are incapable of occupying the same space -- part of that is probably down to the many misinformed that think Ruf is nothing more than a tuner like 9ff or Gemballa and would consider it a waste as having Porsche in the game twice with one being under a pseudonym.

If you can't get Porsche then you can get Ruf and while I don't see an immediate problem with that logic, I do kind of have a problem with the precedent. Why not have both? If no one understands Ruf then tough on them is my opinion on the matter...

I hate to say I told you, but...

It was clear, after all EA was a bit aggressive with its branding strategies, shown since the new Pagani, needless to say, they need to ensure a unique brand for newer Shift and NFS instalments.

Yeah, a brand they're not going to exhaust in any capacity. Having exclusivity rights and putting only 5-7 cars per game is a waste of money.

And exclusivity. If anything at all I wouldn't put it past them if constantly being compared to T10 didn't play a part in all of this.

Get your pitchforks and torches people.
Now where's EA's headquarters?

I believe that the first game EA used the exclusive Porsche license was Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed.
So you can't say they haven't made good use of it in the past.

The best representation of Porsche in any game is in Forza 3. I believe it will remain that way until the next Forza.(Really, Really, Really hoping GT can snag some Porsche's too). This so far has really killed my day.

Yeah EA still misses tons of cars that should be in the game like the LMP cars. So yeah EA have never used the Porsche license to its full potential. Which is why it's annoying when you have a company doing so much for the brand and then they get cut off. Hope EA never sees a Ferrari in any NFS in their life.

That last comment doesn't make the problem any better.
Does PD have the exclusive license for Ferrari?
I'd say that if so, they should make a trade with EA.

Porsche being out ruined my day. EA doesn't care about us or the way we perceive them...they don't even care about Shift 2, as its no longer supported. So any Porsche offering from them is going to be dumbed down arcade or suffer from floaty and lagged controls.
I'm sure they could of worked something out, and declining money is not EA's style, this was done in spite.
Maybe some dlc could be offered later and profits shared between the two, then we all win and EA could actually look decent in the eyes of gamers...yeah right:/
