For all the varieties of the 962, I bring you this:
Porsche_Schuppan_962_CR.jpg

Schuppan 962CR. Road-legal variant, although extremely expensive. Diseno-Art says the price was 2,500,000 USD. 216 mph.
I think it's a variant, but I'm not sure. Maybe it's a car based on the 962.

You got that the wrong way around. The Nissan looks like the Porsche. The 956/962 started racing in '82. The Nissan wasn't built until the 90s.
Actually, he's not. The Porsche 962 did start racing back in 1984, but the Dauer 962 road car didn't come along until 1993 and this was due to a change in the 24 Hour of Le Mans rules. The Group C class cars (the class the Porsche 962 raced in) were no longer eligible for overall wins, instead, only the GT class was eligible. So in order to qualify the 962 for overall wins, Dauer made a road going 962, in accordance to the regulations.

I know that, but the fact still stands that the 956/962 came before the Nissan. Therefore, it's the Nissan that looks like the Porsche.

The Dauer 962 is pretty much a factory converted LM race car. The original post made it seem like Porsche made a race car that looked like the Nissan when it's really the other way around.

That's like saying the original Elan looks like a Miata.

Here's another family portrait.

Looks like a jar of colourful candy :D

962 is nice but the 959 is the reason we need Porsche :)

Actually, I didn't actually see your post there. I thought ericdemoryGT was saying Mt. Lynx was wrong about the was made to race in 1994. I was just trying to help point out the difference between the Porsche 962 and Dauer 962.

Sorry, but what you quoted about me, somehow that never quoted. Those words were someone else's.

Personally i think porsches are ugly and their designers are laziest designers ever.

Can anyone see any differences. Its just plain lazy!!

^Or the design is a classic, that it doesn't need a major design change every few years like other cars do.

Curves: What the Porsche 911 is all about. Like a beautiful woman, it's got nice hips & a nice shapely rear.

Those are my words & have since been clarified. See my post & Jackington's below.

NapleonMikey, from the gamescon thread pointed out...

not sure if this has mentioned cuz im not going to read through 8 pages of useless fanboy stuff but Kaz is going to be at pebble beach (laguna seca) this weekend for the montery historics driving a ZR1 infront of press promoting GTPSP so something tells me nothing major will be announced this weekend with the main man out having fun in a ZR1 and not at games con. oh well guess this helps me with my odds of TGS but then again i could be wrong

Ok this is a stretch but... Kaz is going to be at Laguna Seca this weekend. You know what else is happening this weekend at Laguna Seca... well this...

I take your Porsche gathering images and raise you this:

That's because all three of these 911's are variants of the same generation, the 997 which was first released in 2004 as a 2005 model. 911's have been in production for over 40 years now. They need to maintain a family resemblance or they wouldn't be 911's. Has any other model of car by any other brand been around as long? The only thing I can think of is the Toyota Land Cruiser, which for the purposes of this board doesn't really count.

I'd like to see the 911 GT1 Evo 99. This pic is from a few years ago when I visited the Porsche factory.

Wow! So much motorsport history all in one place. Of course all 3 pics have winners of Le Mans, Targa Florio, Carrera Panamericana, and so on and so on. I like how your pic has the maroon 910 four rows back. One of my faves. Oddly enough that pic is missing the #23 Le Mans winning 917 (red & white) and the 911 GT1.

The only ones missing is the RS Spyder & the Brumos DP Porsche ('09 24h of Daytona winner). We need a new family portrait when Rennsport Reunion IV rolls around.

EDIT - Come to think of it, I don't see the TWR Porsches there either. ('96 & '97 Le Mans winners. Never officially acknowledged by the factory)

For anyone here who hasn't seen the Steve McQueen movie Le Mans. Go watch it now. Watch the wide screen version. Turn up the volume. And if you get bored of the 4 or 5 scenes with minimal dialog, fast forward. Porsche and Ferrari fans won't regret watching this movie, it will make you drool in anticipation of what we all could be playing in GT5 if Porsche makes it into the game and the game includes vintage Porsche and Ferrari race cars.

Not to start the discussion back up, but many cars of that era did start adopting that body design with just enough unique features to set them apart. Thus, imo, kind of makes it hard to say who actually started it.

I'm really looking, but I can't see how either car looks like the other.

What the heck? They have similar qualities. Maybe your lost your imagination lol.

I knew I couldn't be the only one who saw the similarities. The front of the Porsche shares some similarities with the 787B, also. The headlights, particulary.

What similar qualities? All I can see thats "Similar" is the bodies, both of which were designed inder the same rules package. Other then that, I don't see what resemblance they have.

ericdemoryGT said the Nissan looked like the Porsche. You say you didn't find any similar in them, and now you say this? :indiff:
