Porsche will not be in GT5

EA don't have any exclusive contracts. Porsche would never sign away "exclusive" rights to anyone in terms of their intellectual imagery. Porsche can licence their product to whoever they choose.

I suspect that Porsche are against the inclusion of RUF in Gran Turismo. A good mate told me many years ago that they (Porsche) were prepared to sign up for GT3, but their licence was conditional on the clause that PD did not include Ruf Automobiles in the game.

Rubbish rumour-mongering? I thought so at the time, but when I learn that Porsche are not included in GT5, I suspect that there is something deeper than just mere "licensing" issues and none of those involve EA or Turn 10. And none of the other games include RUF, yet they're happily in bed with Porsche whilst PD, who have good ties with VW, are left out in the cold.

Could it be that this is true and Kazunori or PD won't be dictated to as to who they include in their game? Ruf are after all a recognized manufacturer of cars, they are not a tuning house. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Porsche were afraid of having their products directly compared against a company they regard as "aftermarket tuners".

Um, yes, EA does, & yes, Porsche would. They've already been doing so for the past couple of years. It's exactly why Turn10 can't promote Forza 3 with a direct image of a Porsche.

As for your theory, you might as well be one of those folks who believe Porsche is refusing to be in a game with the Nissan GT-R as well.

I said this too, and in this very thread. It seems plausible. Apart from the business aspect of Porsche giving unmarked chasis to RUF, they aren't necessarily buddies. It's strictly business. So maybe Porsche is turned off by the idea of their cars being stacked up against a manufacturer which looks similar on the exterior but might perform better under the hood.

Yes, that it bogus, but I still think the RUF claim isn't just B.S.

But I think Porsche knows that Ruf loves Porsches, and the Porsche company itself appreciates the commitment of small outfits like Ruf to make their cars stand out more and be better. Perhaps Porsche takes cues from Ruf and others on how to improve its cars.

Porsche supports RUF, i doubt thats a problem.

The Porsche license is still owned by EA, even Che from Turn10 said that, so you have to pay them to get the right to use Porsche, i dont think Sony rikes this..

And there you have it, the logic that says otherwise. If Porsche do not like Ruf or being compared to them, Porsche would never send them a chassis.

I don't think it's RUF, folks. Porsche doesn't see it as a competitor; otherwise they wouldn't be providing them.

Have you thought that maybe RUF was sought in response to the absence of Porsche, and not the other way around? Think about it; RUF was the only tuning manufacturer in GT2.

Just curious. Do the Cup type cars count as apart of the contract?

I would have thought racing cars come under a the license from a team or series.

I was really looking forward to GT3 Cup cars and ILMS GT2 class Pooches!

They require the manufacturer and the team's right to use their image.

"Speaking of cars, Kazunori wasn't willing to let the total number of cars slip just yet, but there were a few other points of interest to hold us over. First, Porsche will very likelynotappear in Gran Turismo 5. Kazunori was disappointed by this fact, but according to our interview, Porsche already signed an exclusive deal for a different game and it's highly unlikely the brand will appear in Polyphony Digital's upcoming hit."

This is getting funnier and more tricky now! Here is my defense for Porsche appearing in GT5 using this interview.

-Well, for one, the car count DID slip. Obviously, Kazunori didn't want us to know about the 1,000 cars and that's why the list was taken down on PD's site and that's why he ignored this question. He just didn't want this to be known yet. Oops, looks like we do, though. Keep reading.

-Note: "How many cars might be in GT5?": This is NOT a yes or no question, so to deflect this type of question and maintain secrecy you do not answer it. And so he kept quiet.

-Regarding the exclusive game: One game? Uh...shouldn't it be two? (NFS: Shift + FM3?). Maybe Kazunori made up an answer too quickly and misspoke?

-And instead of ignoring two very important questions in a row which would seem a bit shady, he went with a different approach, the approach which makes the most sense in order to keep secrecy: He chose to ignore the first question because it's too revealing and doesn't require a yes/no response, (how many cars will be in GT5?), and then he decided to reply negatively to the second big question, (is Porsche joining?), by saying: "No, they signed an exclusive arrangement elsewhere". Slick move. Two deflections of the truth: One with silence because silence could be used, and the second with a misleading "no", because the question required a yes or no answer.

-Note 2: "Will Porsche appear in GT5?": It's a yes or no question unlike the first one. How silly would Kaz appear to be if he ignored this question? Hence, in order to totally deflect this type of question and maintain secrecy, you must use a "no" type answer. He appeased the reporter with a "no" answer. Now Kazunori could move on to the next topic.

-Seeing as he protected the all important car count, he also seemed to be protecting the all important car manufacturer (Porsche itself) all in the same interview! If he didn't tell the reporter how many cars will be in the game it seems he also wouldn't want to tell him which cars will be in either.

OH, TGS!!

This is why I have yet to count out Porsche. Still, I do not confirm anything. Anybody have any opinions on my philosophy?

^ Meh, for our sake I hope you're right. But it is tradition for KY to not keep promises and talk **** lol.

Maybe they also signed an agreement that only NFS:Shift can use Porsche cars in commercial use before the game is released?

I've really lost interest in Porsche being included. There are dozens of brilliant Porsches that would be fantastic to have, but there are so many other cars that I want to see.

Basically, I think that there's an almost inexhaustible choice of awesome cars that ARE available, and we obviously won't get through all of those, so meh. If we'd run out of cars then I'd be pining after Porsche, but we haven't even come close.

Would've been nice if Porsche was (or is) to be included. Audi R8, Aston Martin Vantage V12, Corvette ZR1 and a Porsche GT3 on the Nurburgring.

1st of all. And as stated elswhere (only found this thread now, sorry):
I love Porsches. I'm a 911 fan and all!
But... if they miss GT5, I'm pretty sure I wont miss them that much... As soon as you fire the game up, there are many new cars to discover, old ones to revisit and go all warm with "yeah.. that's just how I remembered it", and way to many cars in total to play with before I even recall Porsche didn't get on board. I guess I'll think about that when I own 90% of the cars and done 90% of the game.

In my book is a Stutgard loss and they shouldn't be replaced by a tuner or look a like manufacturer to save face (theirs and PD's). Maybe they'll come around and we get a Porsche DLC in the future.

2nd:
As someone has stated before (justin I think...) RUF is registered as a car manufacturer. This means that they are independent from Porsche. The principle behind that, is that they BUY the base car and parts, and then "rebuild" on it releasing it as (almost) completely new car. As opposed to the costumer bring it in and they just tuning it. The CTR II was one of the finest examples with a radical new look and W4D instead of RWD. That's what gives them the right to have their cars in GT regardless of what Porsche thinks.

Question, Gemballa has some serious transformations. Do they classify as a manufacturer as well?

Gemballa could be in GT5 because it is considered a separate manufacturer. To those that do not read and just post things: Yes, it has been recognized as a manufacturer like RUF.

Also they were included in TRD3 when EA held exclusive rights for Porsches. So they could appear if PD wished to include them.

Wow, after seeing that, forget TechArt, I'm sold, Gemballa is my new favorite Porsche tuner. And it's a seperate manufacturer, amazing. They make some sexy lookin' cars! I'm sure they're fast, too! I haven't seen much of RUF, and to be honest I think Porsche should definitely be in the game, but if not, let's see Gemballa. :)
