I read somewhere on here that EA's licence with Porsche runs out in March. its funny that because GT5 is (apparently) being released in March. So maybe they've got all the cars (Porsches) ready and in the game but cant release the game until the licence is officially over with EA and Porsche. Get me? I may be wrong but it's just a guess.

Once upon a time i did spend a number of hours reading through this thread, and i saw nothing which confirmed this. It could be true, but even if the license does expire, it doesn't necessarily mean PD will be able to get it. I hope they do though :)

Let's just hope Porsche aren't chasing the money.

There's no way Sony can ever hope to outbid Microsoft. :grumpy:

Lets hope Porsche make the wise decision of handing out non-exclusive licenses to avoid things like this happening in the future. It just blocks out new entrants to the genre, if you can't get decent names in you're not going to get anywhere. Where would Forza be without Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. I don't think it would have taken off anywhere near as well as it has done because there is a lot of competition now.

The other thing to consider with contracts is that they can be renewed or extended before they expire...

As much as I would love to see Porsche in GT, I do realize that as another possibility. Having said that, I'm still hopeful.

Oops.. I might have been wrong.

No you were right, you did read it in this thread ;)

Whether its true or not we don't know, but it could be. I suspect GT has modelled some Porsche's at least (Maybe to show Porsche to see what they're missing out on?). The contract we really have no idea about, 10 years was just an estimate, and we don't know when it was signed. Again, early 2000 is just an estimate.

I hope EA is wracked with scandal and collapses, lol. Nobody would miss it. It's the model of an evil, heartless corporation. If EA dissolved everyone would win. All of the non-evil employees would get jobs they actually enjoy at game companies that care about their products. And the consumer would get good games. It would boost the global economy! All incredibly naive wishful thinking on my behalf.

A car encyclopedia is painfully incomplete without Porsche. As my buddy would say in his Indian accent, "They are *****ng with my happiness. You dont **** with a mans happiness for no good reason.. man!" And EA is ******* with our happiness for no good reason. You don't do that.. man!

Having been a victim of this evil first hand, I like this thinking:tup:

I know Kaz said he wants to release a full game (as in not having to have download content), but since there will be download content of some kind anyway, I very much doubt Sony would have let him miss the christmas business only because he wanted to get a Porsche license.

Exactly. Plus, if Porsche comes along later, they can do a $4.99 Porsche expansion pack in the PS Store...

That is a possibility :)

Fifth wind says that reunion will happen in two forms, one greater than other and birdtamers will have freedom to decide which reunion they will attend. Greater reunion will ask for great sacrifice to be made in order to get all present and future treasures without new sacrifices needed, while smaller reunion will come in form already known, asking for more sacrifices if future treasures catches the eyes of the birdtamers.

Which basically means there will be DLC, and if you buy a premium copy you don't have to pay to get it. At least thats the way i see it. It is a possibility that Porsche will be among the DLC if it is not in the release copy of the game.

Maybe these recent delays(not sure what to call them since you can't delay something that has no official date) were caused by the EA-porsche contract running out and PD hurrying to model some Porsches. I doubt it but hey, trying to give those who care hope, maybe false hope.

There have been exactly 0 delays to date. Yes, there were rumors, but rumors don't equal fact.

There will definitely be DLC, but I'm not convinced we will see a version where you pay so much extra up-front to get all future DLC for free. Would be nice to have the option I guess, but it would have to be sensibly priced. If it doubled the retail price, I'd leave it on the shelf and get the normal version!

Yea I'm hoping it's like $80 vs. the normal $60 if there is a premium version. Sadly, I'd buy it if it were $200.

EA reached an agreement with Porsche to acquire the license when they launched the Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed. On March 24 marks exactly 10 years since the launch date of that game.

According to Japanese retailers on GT5 is dated to March 25th. Curious coincidence.

Don't get optimistic as normally exclusivity deals have a clause saying the company/person can't negotiate with other companies/people until the current contract expires.

Good a little hope it is... an excellent surprise it would be... but your feet in the ground you must keep... as difficult it is to see this "miracle" occur

@Freeman_Cruz

Sounds good but, to release the game with porsches PD must have previously modeled the cars, among making an agreement with porsche, so they will not renew EA's license. All these things happening at the same time the game it's criticized and PD have to put more effort on everything, physics, graphics, car count and even to improve their unrealistic trees...:), just joking, but being very optimistic, I can say that your post renewed my hopes. 👍

Fingers crossed you're right and they will be in GT5...it would certainly explain the number of cars increasing to 1000+ and that's just taking into account the different 911 models!

Its likely it will be the collectors edition package with the "3 discs" everyone was debating about a couple of months ago. So it will come with other extras and the possibility of free DLC if it comes out.

I planned on getting the Collectors/Limited edition anyway, so free DLC could only be a bonus :)

I think its quite likely EA acquired the license before the release of the game, probably several months before. Like i said in one of my posts on the previous page, that is just speculation and can't be confirmed unless one of us can get hold of a copy of the contract :P

That is very interesting, but even the first Need for Speed game had a Porsche in it, and it was published by EA in 1994.

Okay. If PD gets Porsche, then I think this will be the greatest racing game ever. If they get Porsche I will buy a racing seat, I promise.
