@Razor440 This sound happens when you put a turbo on a naturally aspirated car. I've had it happend a lot with my experiences in hybriding. It's pretty much a glitch in the Demio's engine... as if the game though the Demio didn't have it's correct engine x)

Although I think we're getting ahead of ourselves a little, 'cause as far as I know, there's no way to extract the texture files from the game, except via the console's memory with psxvram ^^'

The textures are in the cdp & cnp files in the carobj directory of the vol. Once you've extracted stuff from the vol, they still need decompressing from the cnp.gz/cdp.gz files. My tool will do it automatically, but if you used a different one, 7-zip can decompress them.

The files themselves are raw bitmaps instead of standard PlayStation TIMs. The first four bytes are number of available colours, then that many single byte colour ids. The palettes start at 0x20 and there are 18 32-byte palette lines (16 colours each line) per car colour in GBR555 format.

The actual texture data starts at 0x43A0 and is 256x224 as 4 bit palette line indexes. Which line goes with which bit of the car texture is probably in the model file, either way I don't know how to tell.

As long as you decompress the files, and then fill in the right numbers, you can view/save them and cycle through the palette lines using Home & End keys with TiledGGD. As for editing, 4-bit and GBR555 aren't that exotic and this file format isn't that complex so there's probably some general image editor program that can do it but I don't know of one.

One odd thing I've since seen (to be at least slightly on topic), the track names on the event screens - I mean the ones with the HP restrictions and prize money on them - are baked in to the background. If you change the track in the race data, those track names stay the same. The prize money isn't though and shows up properly if you change it.

I just found out that the [R]Audi S4 has corrupted night textures:

Unlike the [R]Laguna, the daytime textures are not affected, so this can be salvaged... if only we can edit the textures. :indiff: (Not to say we can't salvage the [R]Laguna either) Also like the [R]Laguna, the medium detail textures are unaffected:

(For those wondering, the race was originally the Trial Mountain Super Touring race, and the S4 was originally a Chaser. Additionally, I accidentally posted this to the hidden things thread. :irked:)

Agh. I had that problem myself. Yes, it's supposed to be animated. Try opening the gif in Internet Explorer, that might help.
Naw, didn't help. I just see a broken pic thumbnail and then the attachment (which, obviously, doesn't show as animated when clicked and opened).

The original post has a new pic that was uploaded elsewhere. Does this one work?

Yeah, I think i know the problem. It's the browser. It works on Google Chrome, not Internet Explorer, at least on my computer.

This one's a bit special. Spa-Francorchamps' famous set of turns, "Eau Rouge" comes in the form of the I-A - 2 license test. Here's a real picture for comparison.

eau-rouge.jpg

I-A test number 2 starts at 0:51.

The resemblance is almost uncanny and almost seems like it was done on purpose. I think they changed it a little, just to make it look a little bit more scenic since this wasn't supposed to be an exact replica of Eau Rouge, or a whole track. Kind of like how Indi is basically a mix between Clubman Stage 5 and Super Speedway, eh?

i know this is due to the car's extreme light weight. but man was i in for a shock

buy a Trueno AE86. Upgrade to a stage 2 turbo, or whatever to crank up the HP, also weight reduction stage1. stock is okay too.

Select any track. Press on the accelerator! Now the car is doing a wheelie! the front wheels are in the air. I nearly flipped over!

Now try turning a corner. even more shocking.
Probably digging a mine here, but is this possible on when playing on the PS2? I think I have version 1.0 cause when I did the Machine Top Speed test in my Excuseo that I bought my whole garage got wiped out. Good thing I didn't save!

Could somebody tell me how to see which version I have? I have the Mark Martin #6 NASCAR RM, and the garage thief goes all out on me, but the Muscle Car event doesn't require me to have an IA license.

Here's an oddity that I doubt anybody really noticed. The Taurus SHO RM (NASCAR) has tail lights.... It's a NASCAR, the body is just sheets of something... :/

Oh yeah just remembered another one. Dunno if it's been already said, but when you let go of the throttle and let the car slowly decelerate, at one point it revs up and speeds up a bit, and then continues to slow down. I encounter this when I'm in low power cars like Keis and Minis.

I've also seen a dumb AI bug before. On the Grand Valley 60 lap enduro (Which I dominated in my RMed Skyline GT-R V-spec II) I had a Shelby GT500 KR in the mix, and all it did was drive out into the dirt, grass, and gravel outside the turns. When its tires started to go bad, it got stuck on the inside wall on the first part of the S-bend after the last tunnel twice. I rammed it to get it out, and after the second time it pitted and it didn't do it again. (ーー;)

Everybody definitely knows this and exploits it a lot, (I know I do) but I always thought it was odd that I could do 5 laps around Red Rock, then get 5 million credits, and then sell the Speed 12 that I get every time I win that race, and get 50 million.... (´・Д・)」

Is your copy PAL? Could explain something.

Oh, and their made of sheet metal.

That would be v1.0 I believe. PAL only has the generic nascar skin. I didn't know NTSC-J also had Mark Martin's.

The Taurus also has headlights in night tracks if I remember correctly. They probably did that because reasons..

Hehe found another one. If you look at the back of the GT-ONE with the crazy zebra livery, in the middle there's a frog or lizard. ∑(゚Д゚)

Cool thanks! ♪(*^^)o∀*∀o(^^*)♪

UPDATE: I checked the rally race with the 206 that just turns into the wall. In mine it doesn't....

One more; when the turbo drops, for instance when you shift up, it makes a sound kind of like a sneeze imo. (・Д・)ノ

Haha, that's supposed to emulate a blow-off valve. It releases excess turbo pressure when you lift off throttle.

I thought it sounded like a sneeze at one time too.

I find it somewhat entertaining to spam the X button at the start of a race and listen to all those sneezes. (^人^)

I think there is also had a red split in the rear quarter window for some reason...and sadly they couldn't get the Eagle One sponsors on the back of the car so it just says Taurus on the back of the car. But it's sponsored by Bugles! :3

I think there was a demo that had a loud wastegate sound. It was on the Lancer Evolution.

Looks like people have ran out of ideas. I watched a replay on my Arcade disc with an R32 or R33 RMed, and in the name displayed in the bottom left corner it said "SKILINE"

The Tommy Kaira R '99 (based from the R34 GT-R) can enter the GT-R Meeting race, but not the Skyline-R34 Challenge... which has a R32 GT-R in the entry picture. That's a double whammy. :irked:

This may have been mentioned before but I've found out that if you take a car not normally available in arcade mode onto a race on the arcade mode disc (using GT Mode Garage) the physics are entirely different.

Case Study 1: Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak @ Tahiti Road

Case Study 2: Mitsubishi GT300 FTO @ High Speed Ring

Both cars were completely stock with their default setups.
