I got mine back after 20 days. I would have had it a day earlier but my frooky landlord had it, gah.

It was quite a bit of fun, and a few headaches, getting back into Forza 2. But now I'm afraid again. The game is popping up badly. Sometimes even the trackside stripes draw in! As I go around Sebring, every turn the trees draw in for a couple of seconds. Has anyone else had this happen?

That's bad... I'm not sure what to suggest.

I have a few minor problems with my new console. The sound sometimes crackles and pops, which I've never had happen to me since my original console, and the graphics occasionally has white lines dashing up and down the screen.

Other than that, it's stable, if somewhat noisier than my last one...

So, when you get it back it isn't the same quality as before? And you are accepting that? If it were me I would be on the phone saying that it does not work the same as before and demand a proper fix or a new console.

And on a similar note, the last person I know, who had so far avoided any failures, got a Red Ring last night and after trying to do all the fixes that the automated message suggested it still didn't work, so he got them to send him a coffin.

I keep contemplating getting the 360 so that I will have all three next-gen consoles but I am thinking I will put that money towards an HDTV and wait until this issue seems to be resolved and the prices have dropped. WiFi would be a nice incentive too.

I know some people go ape toes over the MS library, but so far nothing hits my pleasure center but Forza. I could wait on Forza 2 if I'd bought the PS3 and a few games. I think that's the best idea, waiting for Falcon, the new chipset 360/Elite and hopefully improved reliability.

And it seems I didn't even get my own Elite back! The serial numbers don't match. It appears that MS repair is grabbing 360s off the rework/refurb desk and sending comparable units back when they're ready to keep customers happy. Knuckles126 from the ps3land forums, once a hard core MS supporter, has this to say:

I've never received the same 360 back from the repair shop. It's always had a different serial number.
Curiouser and curiouser...

The two 360s I had replaced were neither of the ones I had sent in. I very much doubt Microsoft had ever sent anyone's original 360 back to their owner.

Personally, because the problems happen occasionally, like only once every hour with the sound and half an hour with the lines, I don't think it's worth complaining. It'll just be *another* replacement which will take over a month to come back again, and will more than likely have its own problems. It's not worth it.

I think Microsoft's Shipped/sold numbers are actually manufactured. Some people are on their forth one(i dont believe it) I've heard.

Those that have had 360s die...Where was your power brick?? Mine has been on the carpet on the floor. I wonder if thats why I went through 2 360s within a year. I take care of the 360 but never paid attention to that power brick. I am still just using trial and error to figure out how to make these 360s live longer.

Hmm.. I pay more attention to my 360 than the brick. I don't keep it properly upright and I have it on the carpet. I'm starting to think it's just a catch 22 whether your 360 dies or not. Like I said before the only thing I do is point a small room fan at the bottom to force cool air in. I still don't know why my 360 hasn't died yet other than that.

I guess I just got 2 crappy 360s because we definetly take care of them exactly the same. We even cover ours every night to avoid dust. Her 360 has been freezing a lot in the last couple weeks so we know it will probably die soon. When it does I think we will just get her an Elite and sell the other 360. Then when my next 360 dies I will also buy an Elite.
We have a fan by our 360s but 2 of mine still died.

Wow... a dust cover? :scared:

Would it help if I mentioned I take mine everywhere. Friends house, work...
I also noticed you only played 20 games where I have played over 100 in 1 year. By the time you play that many games yours will be dead too. lol

💡 Well... I do play the hell out of about 5? of the ones I do play but come on you're talking to a guy that went from a PS2 with only the GT games and Killzone to owning a 360 and 20 games. That's quite a feat in my book. BTW, I don't give a flying rats behind about achievements too.

Ummm ok....I dont see where I said anything about achievements. I dont really care about them either or I wouldnt have spent 3 weeks straight in the paint editor in Forza 2. lol

Heh, interesting stuff... guess I'd better unplug my wheel when not playing from now on ;)

It does not include time spent cleaning the console, hitting it, staring at it blankly or attempting to force it to work using only the force of my will.

**Some of the time spent trying various remedies was spent while on the phone with 1-800-4MY-XBOX and so that time was not counted twice.

With still no resolution, it’s interesting to look and see exactly what I’ve gone through, so far. If anyone has any idea as to how I can get Microsoft to do something, ANYTHING, I am definitely open to suggestions. Head on over to the discussion thread and share your thoughts and, if any, personal experiences with 1-800-4MY-Xbox.

Wow... I really am not sure whether to believe some of that or not. That's ludicrous... If that is true I'm lucky to have it much easier than he has!

Im sure its true. If you click on the link, you'll see that he has it very well documented.

Yeah, true. Still a chance he could have exaggerated it a little, but really thinking about it I'm not surprised that is happening.

Well, the 360 finally died today. Considering that it made it almost two years from its build date, especially when it was an early-build model, you have to give credit where credit is due. Now I get to go jump through hoops at Best Buy and hopefully get it traded out for an Elite since they "don't have any 360s anymore."

Yeah, that's pretty damn awesome for a $400 product, to keep working 2 years straight.

ROLLING THE EYES.

I bought a new 360 after mine died, trying to get Microsoft to pick it up for 3 months (UPS failed to show four times), and opening it up myself - voiding the warranty - to try and fix it. Asshole customer service assholes.

Also, I wouldn't even want someone elses dirty XBOX. Just pick up my console, fix it and give it back to me in the first place Microsoft you SOB-effers!

Well, it was a bit tongue-in-cheek, but yes I was happy that it lasted that long.

Best Buy wasn't too happy about replacing it, which wasn't great, but at the very least they did it quickly. They wouldn't let me keep my old HDD, so I lost several of my awesome cars on Forza 2, not to mention the fact I've got to re-start PGR4 and Halo 3. But, whatevs.

I ended up getting a Halo 3 360, it was all they had left, and I like it. It looks a bit different down there, but I can't complain too much. Having HDMI is nice after all...

Wow your Best Buy kind of sucks. Mine had it's graphics card fried about 3 weeks back and all I did was take it to the store and the swapped it right there for me. The girl working customer service even swapped the hard drive for me, she also gave me the controller and head set out of the box and told me just to keep them. Whole process took about 15 minutes.

That really sucks then. They said I couldn't keep the HDD unless I was buying exactly the same model, and I didn't feel like waiting two hours for a new one (if they even got them on that truck) just for a HDD and a box that may/may not have an HDMI port. Sure, I probably would have gotten a free game out of it, but even then, I seem to recall them saying that I wouldn't have been able to get my money back either.

Anyway, I like the Halo 3 box. It looks different, the play/charge kit is nice, although I still need the HDMI cable. I noticed that the disc drive is different on this one, it opens faster and feels different. The controller even feels like it weighs less.

...But, I've almost caught-up in PGR4. I'm not looking forward to re-doing Forza 2 though...
