Well, the DVD7 drive on my new 360 Elite decided to quit working. Looks like I'll be getting that PS3 before too much longer. Meh on Micro$oft. :grumpy:

But you bought it somewhere that will let you exchange it. Right......?

Well, last month my launch 360 died (made oct of 2005). I've taken very very good care of it and it just up and crapped the bed. The case was in prestine condition. So I got my replacement. Much to my dismay it was NOT my console. I understand the idea behind rotating the replacement consoles, but here is my issue with it..................although my replacement console is a Jan 2007 console, the front faceplate seems a little loose. On top of that, there is a small, blue mark on the faceplate. The infrared (if that's what it is...) black plastic cover is scratched all to hell.

This does not make me happy. This console was clearly treated like turd and now I'm stuck with it. Who want's to start placing bets this thing's going to be dead soon? I mean, with the condition it's in, and factoring that it's a Jan 2007 build (which means that it was treated so badly that the "latest" build console broke in a mere months)I think I'll be needing to send this back.

I think I'm going to call Microsoft and inquire what to do about this. Even though my old console was a launch console, I would have taken it back ANYDAY of the week over this hunk of junk. I can understand if Microsoft wants to "get you gaming again faster" and they send you a NEW console. But if they want to send me a used one, at least send me MY used one. Because the way it's done now, you are in NO way rewarded for taking care of your console. You could be the best 360 caretaker and still wind up getting one that's been dropped 3 times back. And boy oh boy do I feel bad for the guys who have bought a brand new 2007 build 360 and it breaks and they get a launch one back! The only consolation for that guy is that he's getting mine. lmao. I've taken excellent care of it so he's getting a real gem of a used system!

Anyone else have an issue with the policy of not getting "your" 360 back?

Not to make you feel any worse, but my last replacement console was manufactured in January 2007. And that's being replaced right now because of issues... :grumpy: Microsoft say the console you get back are "refurbished" consoles, not "used" ones, although they really are. They are consoles that have broken in the past with another user but have been fixed.

And yes - I feel you have the right to complain you have a replacement in bad condition. I'd be pretty angry, especially since I look after my stuff and that I'd have to wait a couple of weeks again for another replacement, if they DO decide to swap again in the first place. :ouch:

Quick question. How easy is it to backup your 360 HD data onto your PC? Is it a simple matter of using a crossover cable? I'm really not in the mood to loose some of this data.

Just as an FYI, if you're going to ship your 360 back to MS (as I assume you are since you're asking this question), you should keep the HDD.

Same thing that happened to me, except I had a Jan 2006 console to begin with and was given a launch console in similar condition to yours. I made a big deal to Xbox Support about it, because the stupid support guy who couldn't speak English for **** told me that it would be repaired. He said nothing of replacement. Filed a BBB report and all, but nothing became of it.

Edit: @Tenacious D, like Duck said, keep the HDD and everything else. They only need the console.

The screen started flickering with blue spots all over it while my brother was playing Forza. It got fixed after a restart, so I don't know if we should be worried.

At last - someone else with this issue! You shouldn't be worried - it's been happening to me for ages, but happens rarely. Sometimes they're red too. ;)

Hi guys I had the 3 red lights last month buy I was able to fix it with the a great solution called - The Eraser Fix which actually works great. About Forza its quite common its seems like Forza is causing over heating problems and sometimes the 3 red lights appear. Make sure you system is on a cool place with lots of space for the air to go in and out.

Well, I received my system Tuesday. Fourth one. I'd be 100% satisfied if it wasn't covered in black handprints from whoever packed it. It runs whisper quiet, both the fans and the DVD drive, which is a first for me. Manufacture date on this one is August 26, 2006 and I also got a free XBL 1 month subscription card. Too bad that only makes up the the time I was without the thing.

Anywho, back to playing GRAW2. Am I the only one who thinks this has one of the greatest campaigns for a shooter?

"Yay, we've got the nukes! Everyone is safe!"
"We checked the crash site, and the nuke was nowhere to be found."

Not that it does jack squat but...

RSV > GRAW 2

They swear...

A year old. I thought you said they were giving you a new one...?

At least it's not one of the 2005'ers, I suppose...

And yes - every console I've got back has become slightly quieter, and the last one had the newer DVD drive, so that was spinning much more quietly as well.

For once, XBL Support had an automated message on the phone saying that they're having delays for replacements, and that your 15 days return is now increased to 25. And that's working days - they don't make that clear. 19 "working" days for me so far...

Edit: Hey, DWA, I had the EXACT same fun blowing on my 360 a year ago. :)

lame...

 Last night I go to play a little Forza2 to relax and forget about all the problems of the day only to have 4 red flashing lights on my 360. Finding that it was having issues with the A/V inputs (never had that problem before) I finally got it working only to have the dashboard freeze on me with a checkerboard mosaic pattern on the screen. This repeated into the wee hours of the night while I tried to trouble shoot it. I have maybe 200 hours on this 360......not hardly enough to warrant failure so soon. I'm taking my extended warranty and the 360 back to Best Buy today.....

ERRRRrrrrrrr........

The PS3 is still going strong though....

I guess it has been confirmed as stated in another thread in the 360 forum on GTP. Nice to know that I will have four more years of warranty on my 360 now.

Except Microsoft has the right to discontinue that offer at any time.

Considering they canceled the extended warranty service offer for pre-2006 X360 just three months after offering it makes this latest offer a good deal less reassuring that they will honor it.

That, and if you read the fine print, the warranty is very limited in what is covered based on very specific problems.

My XBOX360 won't play any discs. I insert (any) disc, it starts reading it for a second, then jumps back to "Open Tray" instead of ****ing "Play Game"!

Mine does that too sometimes...except it will play the disc after a few pushes of the eject button (sometimes takes 3 or 4 times of itself autoejecting).

Well, the 25 business days for the Xbox returning are up. We rung them up, and we were offered a choice of a Memory Unit, Wireless Controller, or 5 games. The 5 games were mainly release ones: Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo, PGR3 and Gears, but the 5th game was Viva Pinata, which I am happy with. The game is still worth a fair bit to sell, and I didn't mind the demo before the Xbox broke.

The annoying thing is, it's another 7-10 business days to wait. Not happy...

It has taken them that long to get it back to you? Their problems are a lot worse than I had thought...

I made the "mistake" (depends on who you ask) of buying the Best Buy warranty with the X360, but then again, if anything breaks, I can probably get a new unit within a few hours.

As some of you know from my other thread. My 2nd 360 just died last night. Oh well I will be buying another one after work tonight. I dont care how much 360 die. I still love it!! :)

Yes, and I regret buying from a non games specialised store now.

On the day of release, I had to go to a music store because everywhere else was just sold out. They never had an extended warranty program, so we had to sign up for Microsoft's own instead. GAME does their own extended warranty, and replaces the console right away if it breaks. I really should have waited another month so they had more stock...

I am really considering slowing down the rate I buy games for the 360. I'm buying games for the hell of it just because it's fun. I think I'll just have to stick to main titles like Forza, Gears and Halo now, and slowly move to using the PS3 more.

James get the memory unit, I could do with one of those i'll just come and pick it up ok?

Also my 360 works great, hope this helps.

Well, the story has developed into something very interesting. I feel it's time to post it as the Xbox should finally be coming tomorrow, after nearly 6 weeks of waiting since the day it broke.

Without me knowing at first, my father had been sending multiple emails to the email address that claims to be Peter Moore's. He told me a week after he had sent the first one; I thought it was a pointless idea because I seriously doubted you'd get a reply from such a man. But, the very morning he told me, we got 3 emails and a phone call from the people at MS who look at his messages. What my father did the night before, due to the week of absent replies, was send them an email the night before threatening them he'd go to BBC Watchdog. This was a surprising reaction, but I suppose rather obvious due to the whole ridiculous situation. Having been offered the Viva Pinata the week before, one email contained we could have 1 year's worth of Xbox live, one saying he was very apologietc about the situation and could do nothing to speed up the process, and another was for a code being sent to us for a 3-month Xbox Live code, after the phone call.

Although we have yet to receive the 1 year code, I have never read such compensation being given to anyone in this situation! Is this a weekness? What are they afraid of if we DID go to Watchdog? I doubt it's a coincidence.

Edit: I forgot to mention, they did give confuddle down the phone - "2% failure rate, sir" and denied that we have been through 3 consoles! He acted very surprised when he did finally say we've had such a "history", and then agreed to send the 3-month code through email...

6 weeks for your 360 to be returned? Crikey.
I have heard of that kind of "compensation" before, but mainly in the US. I guess any threat of bad publicity has to be considered. And I wonder if Watchdog have either a) has received a load of complaints already (and Microsoft know this) or Watchdog have already done a piece. Either way Microsoft are painfully aware of negative publicity.

Anyway, I hope it comes soon and you get your free 1 years Gold Xbox live.

2% failure rate, huh? Seems their recent announcement hasn't trickled down to their front line yet!

Were they quoting 2% in Britain, or 2% worldwide? Figures in the US that Microsoft has been using, at least to my knowledge, is much higher at 30%.
