Patches are nowadays a known thing. We know that before any games is launched. If you do not like that, don't buy a new game.

I am glad SMS patches the game and continue to keep in touch with us.
So my friend should wait for the GOTY edition

Yes, patches are a known thing but why is it an acceptable practise? They patch the games because they release them seriously flawed. I'm glad they're fixing it as well, but with proper testing before it goes gold the patching would be far less substantial and therefore less costly. Cost may not be an issue for you but it is for my friend.

The patches won't cost your friend any money.

Edit: ah, sorry - you mean in broadband charges. I can see how that would be annoying.

yeah I get that. Sorry for your friend not having a decent connection at low costs. But we've got to be realistic about this, that is a very small group of people.

As far as releasing software. I work in the software industry, dates are set, marketing, advertising, packaging is all geared to a certain date. It is not possible anymore nowadays to stop that.

And I come from the time when Microprose sent met a 3 diskettes update for Geoff Crammond's F1 World Grand Prix. Even in those times without internet, games were released. I must admit that the 3 disk update was to add network play (via 0 modem cable) and vastly improved sound.

It really sucks for your friend, but does he know someone who'd let him take his box and plug into their broadband for a while to DL the patch ? ? not an ideal situation but it'd save him some cash.

After all this bug-fest, a console point of view:
I can't understand how some people can be thankful to the developers even if they have encountered game breaking bugs (in some cases numerous bugs) in the game.
Because those people work with other people in the real world and understand that you don't have to be an ass in case of problems and also understand that the devs are in fact doing the best they can (whether you think that's enough is another issue). They also understand that ranting, spamming and swearing is not going to help furthering their issues.

Yeah, it sucks if you have a problem, and it sucks that you have to wait for a fix. Being an ass about is not going to make it happen any quicker.

Yeah that person is normally me, but unfortunately I'm near my 100gb limit so I can't this time :(

It would be nice if there were an offline way to update the game, but outside of PC I don't think that's possible (PS4,XB)?

E.g. on Steam I can just copy my installation folder and give it to you and Steam will only download what's needed. Is there something similar on consoles?

Im having a hard time with the first Proving ground event, (Ginetta GT4 Cadwell park) that race is so difficult and that car so twitchy...another thing that race director is really anoying, touched the kerb? 2 laps deleted!
You are not alone. I gave up on it for now, maybe until I “get good” :)
May have to turn down AI in the end though...

Unfortunately no, it can only be downloaded to the PS4 in his case.

@IanBell @The_American One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is the chase camera - I'm very happy with the changes you've made to it, where basically it's like Gran Turismo now, with the camera being fixed to the rear of the car rather than the track, which is exactly what I like. Setting world movement to 100 to lock the camera solid, pretty much makes it perfect for me. This, combined with the controller improvements, means I can happily drive around using chase cam if I want to (best way to admire those time changes!), which is pretty cool, and a first for me in a sim of this kind!

However I know from the GT forums here that not everyone likes this type of camera, and I wouldn't be surprised if you get complaints about it - so I just want to say that if you do look to change it in the future, please make sure the option to keep it as it is now is retained. Thanks :)

I drove the Jag XJR9 around Daytona for a while yesterday... oh my god what a machine. And what I really loved was really feeling the downforce of the car in the FFB, it felt heavier where it should and then lightened up as the downforce came off the car in the slower sections. Just fantastic.

When this game gets it right its better than pretty much anything else available on console, including Assetto Corsa.
Have you also tried the Aston Martin DBR1? Fun guaranteed

Not yet, but it is on my to-do list. Been having great fun with the GT1 and Group C machines, its a shame finding online lobbies for them is difficult as basically online is populated exclusively with GT3 rooms.

I did enjoy taking the Lotus 25 out on the Nordschleife though, some nice 4 wheel drifts possible with that car now, hope a similar experience with the Aston on the skinny tyres.

Just had a few races with the PS4 pad and wow they really have done an amazing job with the pad, I seem to be much faster with it as well. Also didnt seem to be locking the brakes up which seem to be happeing constantly last night with pedals.

Is there a way to display the time in the game? Not the real time, but the time in the game. With time acceleration, it would be nice to get a hint of what time it is.

I had to lower the ai from 65 to 15 to actually beat that. lol 15. But im not sure if it is due to the ai balance being off, or the fact that caldwell park is a super thin track and even 2 wide is tough to handle. Also yes I struggled with driving the ginetta.

I managed to finish second with the normal difficulty , after a crazy number of retries obviously. Do such races exist IRL? Can't believe this track can still be used, it's so narrow....

I also found the Ginetta proving ground event extremely difficult! Such a narrow track. The only real chance to overtake is under braking into turn 4 after the straight and hope the other car doesn't turn in.

It is alarming. You are sending the wrong message to the developers and gaming industry by doing that!
Well.

A) It's an enjoyable game.

B) I haven't experienced game breaking bugs and the issues I've had have been minor.

Agree Lotus 25 on Nordschleife is also a lot of fun 👍

Bravo on the replay cameras at Azure Circuit. Exactly like the F1 camera positions.

I'm getting geared up for the inaugural Newcastle 500 (V8)Supercars event. The closest track layout, is Monaco. 26 V8 Supercars into Turn 1, is hairy, but each lap is a thrill. The replays just capture the speed so perfectly.

Much respect to F1 drivers around that place.

I’m also on 65% normally, so may have to drop it down there. This track with these cars is a bit mental, not sure if they would have these kinds of races IRL.
