They're also better balanced. I've found a far smaller variance in pace for a given AI setting, and they at least make an effort to "observe" when road conditions are poor now. :) Still don't seem to be affected by puddles of standing water or chilly weather that is too cold for the player's tires, though. I haven't gotten back to my career yet because I keep spending my time investigating version 2.00 things or just losing myself in enjoying the new physics & setups!

It's also been a bit difficult not to spend half my time watching the replays. :) The shots are outstanding and well thought out.

Agreed. The camera angles are spot on for most tracks, although I still have a lot to sample!

I have a short story to tell. I drove a manual car for the first time today. Nothing like any game I've ever played. What the hell are they missing?

The way the clutch feels when letting it out. That's what I had the most trouble keeping smooth and when I was off the car would react. You don't get that when driving road cars in games. The weight of the clutch is also something that isn't replicated well at all. What is that about? Is my G29 clutch pedal not made with enough resistance? Can they make pedals with varying levels of resistance so when you engage the gear with your right hand it changes how the clutch pedal feels with your left foot? The other thing is the shifting itself. I know every car is different, and I was driving a 2017 Mazda 3, but it felt so much stiffer than the G29 shifter. Do high end shifters have more resistance?

Beside the physical comparison, I was more upset about the physics and that jerkiness when messing up gears not being a thing in games.
My TH8A shifter allows you to vary the resistance when changing gear, to the degree that the level of resistance is comparable to a real H pattern box (driving 20 years and living in the UK that's 95%+ manuals).

Make sure you have the auto-clutch off, then you will find that not only can you miss shifts, but also suffer drivetrain shunt and damage from doing so.

Ahh Grasshoppa', you've just begun.

Seriously, EVERY car has a little different feel. PS4 user here. So let's get that out of the way first. The only game that gives me a real feeling of clutch is Assetto Corsa. (I've driven probably 90 different manuals in real life - conservative number). Assetto seems to allow for some kind of clutch slip, which is what clutches do. Most other games have this constant bight point that's very, I don't know, digital? Like, gear engagement is on here, off here. (Gran Turismo is by far the worst, even GTSport as of last week). But that's not how real clutches work. Clutches slip based on pedal position, engine RPM, horse power, torque, etc. So far, Assetto has the only clutch I believe is sim worthy on console, because it kinda seems to slip a bit. I'm still waiting for the version that will actually let you burn up the clutch disc while slipping the clutch. Then we'll know they've modeled it properly. There's nothing like the smell of a burning worn clutch when you're trying to slip it just enough to get up a stubborn hill off road.

Clutch slip certainly exists in road cars, however once you get into any track biased or pure race drivetrains they are very digital in feel. As the slip that helps smooth things out in a road car (and helps reduce NVH) will slow you down on the track.

AI seems much better after patch 2.0. I almost traded the game in after my first few races before the patch, but ran a couple of races last night at Bathurst, Le Mans and Long Beach and didn't encounter one first lap pile up!

The replays at Long Beach are incredible too

They're also better balanced. I've found a far smaller variance in pace for a given AI setting, and they at least make an effort to "observe" when road conditions are poor now. :) Still don't seem to be affected by puddles of standing water or chilly weather that is too cold for the player's tires, though. I've run 5, 30 minute TCR and TCR/GT3/GT4/TC1 races. AI were well behaved @100/85.
Multi-class Fuji, varying wet conditions: I ran with the AI all race until they pitted for slicks(I stayed on wets throughout) at a drying slot. Then, balanced again when Light rain returned for the last 1/4 of the race.

The other 4 races were Same class TCR. Managing tyre wear, seems to be the theme. AI still fight to regain their position after I pass, but no more punting me off. At tracks where i could back off a bit, to cool the tyres, AI would start to fill my mirrors. Also took me several laps on some circuits, to pass one car. The AI were a bit slower at the final two turns at Oschersleben GP- in wet and drying conditions. Dubai was tough on the front tyres. The AI pushed me all race, even with the AI ahead bolting off into the distance.

This game is still the best at bumper to bumper and side to side racing. 2nd chicane at Monza, the hairpin at Hockenheim GP, the full Oulton Park circuit, I can race like this all day with the AI. No hiccups.

Edit: I still can't save replays since October 14. So, can't compare replay camera positions between real races and PC2.
The camera positions at Hockenheim, in game, are spot on to the real thing.

Whenever I try to invite some online friends into the game, it seems as if they cannot join. Any help? Or maybe the servers of the game need to be improved?

Aston Martin Vulcan What a mess of a car :yuck: It shouldn't even be in the same class as the GTR
Beautiful beat down by the Mclaren GTR well done :D

Not on pure speed, but it costs about the same, has the same intentions, and is way more striking in my opinion.

Also see this video for more info:

I watched that video the other day and was inspired to check them out in game to see if I could sense the things they were describing. Yea the McLaren wins in straight speed every time but both are fun cars.

I also saw this video of a guy in the lesser Radical race car at a Silverstone track day and he was dealing with some aggressive Lamborghini GT3 drivers. I decided to replicate it. He said there were also some nice sports cars and GT3 cars in general so I went with my Radical and Track Day A, Road C, GT3, and Super Trofeo. AI at 60/100 and it's just like what was happening. I'm going around at my own pace which is slow but super fast in the bends and everyone else is overtaking on the long straights. It's just a question of if they have enough room to do so before having to turn in and if I can get through the turn and on the gas before them. Lots of fun and I've already had a few Lambos bump me off track.

While driving the Aston Martin Vulcan i had no bias
(I promise)
:guilty:
But i just didn't enjoy the vulcan

And the P1 GTR just flat out beat it on all three tracks :D

Good Video btw

I quite enjoy pc2's soundtrack as I did PC1. Always preferred an actual classical score than electronic synthesized music. Though still to this day, nothing beats the original NFS underground's menu music

Are AI cars still not affected by the rain? Finally starting career mode tonight in Formula Rookie and the 2nd race it was rain and i couldnt take a single corner really and had to tip toe round Sakitto while the AI were gone and were 40 seconds infront after lap 2

edit: restarted the race and changed from auto by weather to wets and ehat a difference seems the game had me on slicks rather than wets.

What are the best tires to use on the Escort RX when doing RX? All-Weather, All-Terrain, or Street? Automatic to weather gave me street but that seemed odd

I've used AT with success. Ran a couple public lobby RX races Sunday night ,in the Escort. Had a friggin' blast!

Sorry f wrong thread.

I have tried the Porsche Proving ground race few times and finding the 918 just a little bit hard to control. I just can not find the right set up. Im using stick controls :banghead:

@IanBell Can you please please PLEASE work on implementing a "Same Manufacturer" option when selecting AI for offline and online races where AI fills the grid? The ability to have a "Porsche Festival" to see all of their cars on track together and how old compares to new would be a hugely missed opportunity.

Maaaannnnn, I was hoping to do a Nismo festival. All those cars plus, Fuji.

The 720s is a amazing car :D:bowdown: Favorite road car only next to the P1
Expected the p1 to win i mean 186 hp difference is just to much for the 720s to overcome

Still no JGTC era GT-Rs. Come on, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I did try the time Trial SMS R34. It's more Super Taikyu/NISMO S-Tune/R-Tune racer, than JGTC though. A few proper JGTC cars are welcome. I guess the Diablo GT2 is close to one.

With the multitude of classes on offer in PCars2 we still have to contend with 90% of lobbies being GT3. What is wrong with people?!

I like GT3 but some variety would be nice.

I feel your pain. In Pcars1 I would set up lobby's frequently using a lot of the other cars - and there were a lot of great race cars from different formulas, yet nobody would join - unless you put GT3 in there. What I could never get my head around is that if you love track racing in any of the lower series, would you not jump at the chance to race that online? Sometimes I thought I was the only one who enjoyed driving the single seater Caterham or Palmer etc
